Kindred needs to be base kit soon

What I have noticed one of the biggest problems solo is no one knows who is going for the save, that means you get 2-3 people coming off gens to go for it. Surprise, gens don't get done. You can even take out the Killer aura aspect in the base kit version and could reserve that for the actual perk.

I think it's a great idea as long as the killer portion remains behind the perk as you and others have suggested. It's one of the rare instances where I agree with the idea that there should be zero/extremely low impact to swfs and a rather sizeable buff to solo queue.

Or you could think for a second, what happens when i run it as soloQ ? Sure it will proc when am hooked but there are other 3 soloQ who i don't control their perks.

It's funny how people complain daily about SWF but they refuse any QoL that could narrow the gap with SoloQ. OP even said it doesn't have to show the killer's aura, so it's not entirely a kindred basekit and it will not add to SWF by any means since they are already coordinated.

Do you have a source for this?

I have heard from Paulie Esther that they rejected this idea one time but i've never seen a source for it.

    No

The problem is that if you have kindred and someone else gets hooked. You see everyone else's aura but they don't see each other and you. So you could be closer and go for the unhook but someone who is a bit further would still be coming for the unhook as well. So basekit kindred is different than basekit borrowed time.

Kindred itself doesn't have to be base, Even knowing where the other survivors are is enough. Kindred can be reworked into showing the killers aura on hook up to however many metres. This is actually a good thing for killers as it closes the gap between SWF and solo. Then you can buff killers accordingly once everyone is basically on the same page.

I agree that a form of Kindred would significantly close the gap between Solo Q and SWF. It's obviously worth a perk slot and I think it's pretty popular. I don't think it was in the top 3 most used survivor perks but I imagine it's up there. (How is Self-Care number 1?)

Having Kindred be basekit has been requested before and I'm pretty sure the Devs have specifically said they didn't want to go that direction, though I can't provide a source for that. Of course, they could always change their mind as well.

I think what will happen will effectively provide the same information through the HUD, as they have stated plans to give more information that way. So if I see a teammate's status go from "On Generator" to "Running" soon after another teammate gets hooked, I might be able to assume they are going for the save. It's not as good as auras, of course, but it's a good step in the right direction. Hopefully they implement something to help Solo Q sooner rather than later, but they promised it's on the agenda.

I have read about the devs "not wanting to go in that direction." Which leads me to question how well they understand their game.

Cool then survivors have hour long ques as killers would leave in droves facing none stop swf level survivors

Maybe not showing everyone like kindred, but some way to communicate/indicate whether anyone is moving toward or near for the unhook would help immensely. Perhaps hooked color changes according to distance to closest survivor or if no one is near 15 seconds after hook it shows survivor auras for few seconds. This is one of the biggest advantages of swf voice comms, calling out who is going for unhook and when they have to wave off due to a chase.

They said they will never gonna add Clown type killer but they did.

They said gen times are alright for very long time but then they admitted it was not fine.

They said OoO is fine perk, user is dying most of times but then they changed their mind about it.

Op's post is not against rules. So stop BOSS'ing him, he can write whatever he want if it is about the game. You are not boss here, stop acting like you are.

It was bossing, you have no rights to tell them that "Don't ask x". They can. It is not your business.

I doubt it will make a difference.

I'm using Kindred all the time and sometimes all 3 of them are coming to save me, they are not using their teammate's Aura as a good info to go back to the gen.

If we can't get Kindred as base kit, we should get action icon instead.

They also said no on other stuff that is now a thing.

    So, completely invalid argument.

We need this to reduce some of the gap between solo and swf. Then balance around that, which btw was also something they said if we really gotta take everything to heart.

A baby version that the main perk buffs to a slightly better version of BBQ I would be alright with that.

base kit baby kindred only shows allies auras within a set distance that full kindred buffs

Baby kindred doesn't show killer aura and full kindred killer seeing aura stays the same

For SWFs aswell (because how not)? What a great idea. /s

(And i say this AS as a solo, running Kindred in 90% of my games. Still, btw.)

Playing on solo queue is like playing with at least 1 and I'd argue 2 perks less. They can change their minds and honestly it's going to keep coming up because it makes logical sense. How can they remotely balance the game when even the most casual of SWF on comms basically get Kindred and knowledge of who is in chase for free. That knowledge alone is 2 perks easy. Yes the obsession marker is a thing but that only works for one out of four players.

Some devs have a 'vision' of the game and want people to be 'scared and isolated' and seem to put bags over their heads when it comes to balancing SWF vs. solo. There's a reason they've been so vague on SWF vs. solo stats because admitting the problem would mean being forced to destroy their out of touch vision.

Baby Kindred as it's been called is fine. No killer aura but survivor auras. Kindred's killer aura especially with open handed is quite good. Despite that I'm really tired of putting kindred in each and every single one of my solo survivor builds knowing if I don't, there's a fairly good chance I'll be left on hook because everyone else thinks 'my generator is more then 50% I can't leave someone else will do it' or one person DOES go for it but gets chased away.

Failing base Kindred an action icon near the survivor portrait would go along way. Simple things as 'repairing generator, healing, going for save (which you'd have to press a button to set). One that become 'chased' automatically if chased or puts the chase icon in addition to whatever you set it to. The information that someone else is in a chase cannot be understated.

And ultimately this. The easier it is to balance SWF vs. solo, the more likely more killers will be buffed to a level they can compete with both.

Yep, kindred without the killer aura should be Basekit. Anyone who doesn’t want that is a selfish killer main.

I remember an ex-dev saying that. Can you show when active devs commented on this?

Just equip Kindred and watch in awe, how your teammates ignore it.

Making it basekit, won´t solve the issue of bad teammates being bad.

I did not, i just told you what you did. But i think it is so hard to understand for you. Understandable.

I've never seen actual proof either.

I'd be willing to accept BHVR saying no to this if they were actually willing to offer an alternative, but they're not so I don't blame people for repeatedly asking for it. They need to know what their player bass is thinking.

I doubt that basekit kindred would help. I had games where i run kindred, was on hook, and still 2 people come for the hook, both trying to outrun the other to get the unhook points.

  • Ryuhi
    Ryuhi Member Posts: 3,826

Basekit Kindred won't help because the average survivor doesn't even understand what to make of half the information it provides. Ironically running it still gives you tools to address that, as you can play reactive to their auras. People want to hope that giving everyone that same information will improve their teammates' agency and game sense when neither party is even willing to run it themselves and get its tremendous value that they demand as necessary.

Where are all the people who kept saying FoV is a balance issue? Why aren't they protecting the design of the game here?

The thing is, if everyone had baseline kindred and if everyone knew you could all see each other I think it would have more of an impact, because there is more direct culpability. I run kindred often and there is a visible difference in behaviour when I'm hooked, so they can all see me and each other, to when someone else is hooked and they can't see each other, only I can.

  • Ryuhi
    Ryuhi Member Posts: 3,826

You want to provide surrogate agency to other players instead of requiring them to have their own. This often has the predictable result of them not utilizing it anyway since if they understood the importance, they would be willing to make the same contribution and run the perk as well.

For every survivor who adjusted their gameplay because you were running kindred.... how many didn't? I use it all the time, so I absolutely know the answer to that one.

I won’t name names but have you noticed that ever since some devs left the game has gotten better and better?

It’s kind of a conspiracy but ever since HE left we gotten great updates besides from The first mid chapter of the year every update has been great. There doing changes and taking more risks that they would never do

  • edgarpoop
    edgarpoop Member Posts: 8,371

Yes it should be basekit. The whole perk. The survivors should be able to play around it if you camp in a dumb spot as killer. And if you're camping intelligently, survivors are still in a bad spot. Trials shouldn't be decided because players lack information to make good decisions.

You can say "run Kindred". Ok. Everyone runs Kindred, and now 3 survivors have a perk slot that does nothing whenever someone is on the hook. Zero potential from that perk slot whenever someone is on a hook. There is no stacking Kindred.

    It's bad design.

It is the killer’s job to get survivors off of gens, kindred should absolutely not be base kit.

Solo Q is fine. That's how the game should be played
