What's the best gen to take care of early?
Probably a completely different thread than what's populating the first page at the moment.
I've been playing for one and a half month so far and there are games when the first 3 gens fly by fast (without perks like Hyperfocus etc.) because Killer might not be finding survivors or being fast at applying pressure. But sometimes those games end up being lost cause it's hard to complete the last or last two gens cause they might be in a very obvious spot or maybe we 3-gen'd ourselves probably.
So I would like to ask, the general consensus is, once you spawn in you repair the first gen you find. Maybe not the best choice. Usually if I'm interrupted or we are finished with it I try to move to an unsafe gen that's located in the middle of the map in an open area as I feel, those are the most difficult to complete lategame.
Is this a solid strategy? And is it optimal to team up with another survivor to finish up the gen fast but increase your late game chances?
I don't run gen rush perks but sometimes I bring a toolbox. But I'm asking about this even if I don't bring gen-rush stuff, as in is this a good decision in general?

Map dependant but typically I go for the middle/center gens first. They are usually the most easily defendable and typically the backbone of the majority of 3 gens.
After that, I target the gens that are near corner gens. In the most ideal scenario, you want the corner gens finished last since they are all spread out from one another and if done correctly - you will be at 1 gen left and 1 of those 3 gens will be on the opposite side of the map
People tend to make the mistake of doing all the far away gens first, leaving the Killer with a nice central area to defend
Here's my advice:
When on a gen, look for the closest gen to it and don't move onto that one when finished, find another one elsewhere.
If the map has 2 sides, never do all the gens on one side. Sounds obvious but most people forget this
Try to preserve resources near generators as once a gen is in a dead zone; it's easy pickings for the Killer

At the very start it either the one with the tightest 3-gen or the one closest/on basement is generally what I find the best. Generally it doesn't matter too much at the start but remember that most people are thinking the same thing which can lead to a 3-gen easily.

I start with the closest if no corrupt. Then I am either mindful or not too much.

Break 3 gens at the beginning. On some maps like Suffocation Pit you can have 4 or 5 gens on one side, which is very strong for the killer cause he doesn't have to leave this side but you're forced to do gens there eventually.
If you don't see a typical 3-gen, do the middle gens first or the ones in unsave positions (deadzones without pallets or vaults.)

I always try to break mid first. Then create a line that separates the last remaining 2 generators so the killer has to cross the entire map to patrol.

Also if you want a bit more advice, here is a list of maps that are easily 3 genned on and how to break them
Haddonfield - do literally any of the gens that spawn near or in main building. Haddonfield typically can only have one 3 gen set up but it's one of the most broken ones in the whole game
Family residence - do at least 1 gen near main building and 1 gen on the killer shack side. Sometimes RNG can spawn 3 gens in a line on main building side
Sanctum of Wraith - Same as above except get rid of middle gen asap then do one on each side.
Resting Place and Suffo pit - These 2 are the most notorious 3 gen maps. You need to figure out which side has the most gens, knock out a few and then see if there's a middle gen and focus on that.
Dead Dawg Saloon - Do the hangman gen and any gen that is located on the road/essentially in the open infront of the saloon itself. Once these gens are gone, you should be okay. Main building gen can be saved until last because Killers hate chasing there
Midwich & Game - Just don't let all the gens be on one level. Do gens upstairs and downstairs evenly

Situational and map dependent but there are multiple gen types you should be on the lookout for and in order of importance IMO.
3-Gen: As the name says, three gens all relatively close to each other and is the most beneficial setup for killers and can sometimes win entire games depending on their perks. Should be worked on immediately but you also have to be careful not to over commit. If breaking the 3-gen costs your entire team then it's not worth it. If the killer is guarding it from the beginning then it can sometimes be beneficial to do other gens first that way when it gets completed, you don't still have 4 gens left to do.
Dead Zone Gen: These are gens with nothing around them and can be very problematic in endgame if the other two gens are close to each other. These gens will almost always guarantee a hit and depending on killer, even a down. They're not as problematic if the last two gens are spread out but can still be an issue.
Central Gens: Gens that are right in the middle of the map. These are good gens to get done as they can sometimes be a part of a 3-gen or just in the pathway of the killer moving around. At endgame these gens are very hard to finish so it's more like you only have two gens to choose from instead of three. Getting it done early can give you more options later but I personally don't think it's as much of a problem as 3-gens or dead zone gens since you'll still be able to loop the area.
Action Gens: These are gens that do some kind of in game action that may be helpful but are often not. These are gens like the central one on Temple of Purgation which opens the central area and has a chest. Gens on The Game are all action gens and some can make loops better while some others are better left for last because of the door placement. Very situational and only applies to a select few maps.

Dependant on the map, as a rule of thumb central gens and the ones you know they are essential to a 3gen like the one in the main building in Family Residence.
Other less obvious gens to take care early on are gens close to the basement, especially if its gen+basement+shack and gens on deadzones like the gens that spawn at the end of the street on Haddonfield near the trafic cones (no pallets or windows close).

I almost never do the first gen I spawn by. Fortunately, I have enough map knowledge by now to know where the most likely 3 gen is and I go to break that first.
When a new map gets released I run Deja Vu a lot to immediately identify the 3 gen and go to break it. As well, I get a feel for the gen spawns as well.
As well, the other mistake that is commonly made is grouping up on gens. Grouping up is for breaking 3 gens, hitting an essential gen location quickly and Prove Thyself (although a decent toolbox gives better results than Prove Thyself).
Until you're down to 1 gen or have to break a 3 gen separating on gens is almost always the better move.

When I made this post I actually had Resting Place in mind, I lost a game because of gens against a Billy in that way and he wasn't even good, but it was really difficult to get them done. Didn't help that they were in relatively open areas.
I feel so vulnerable doing Haddonfield gens in the open, I try to do the one that appears on the end of the street or the other on the side of the street, especially if someone's getting chased. They are so hard to do later on.

When I started playing and couldn't figure out where gens were and ran this perk I'd use it to do all the gens near each other, not break a 3-gen.😂 The more you know.

I try to work from inside out. IMO, it's generally a good idea to just start moving into the center of the map as soon as the match starts, slowly and carefully making your way. I prefer to know what Killer I'm going against before I do anything at the very least. Sometimes the Killer will walk right passed you, and in THAT case maybe go for the Gen nearest to where he spawned, because that will be the last one he patrols again, considering he didn't already catch someone before he needs to return.
Also, just keep your peepers peeled. If you can literally see 3 gens from where you are at, go for the one in the center, always and forever. That is a potential 3 Gen you are literally sitting on, get rid of it immediately.

At the very start of the match, I try to work on a far-flung gen or an inconvenient-location gen where the killer is less likely to find me, until I at least get information about who and where the killer is. After that, I try to go for the one that's going to be the biggest pain to do if it stays until late game.
