Very Good News for Anti-Cheat
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/347960/news-update-on-cheating#latest
It is good to see finally BHVR is sharing something about cheaters. Some good news tho.

You should specify its 200k banned cheaters in total, this last year were "only" 50k which is huge since the game has been around since 2016, they banned in a span of 9 months what they usually ban in 2 years.
9 -
I wonder how many are specifically from epic games.
17 -
I'm very happy to see an announcement made. It's astounding that in a week over 2000 were banned, and yet still more roam free in games. I believe the failsafes will help immensely (although I'll quell my argument that they should have been implemented sooner).
3 -
Yeah you are right, i just edited the title.
1 -
Only 6,872,281 to go!
Kidding, but there's most likely maaaannnnnny more thanks to Epic and PC Game Pass.
5 -
I'm concerned they didn't bring up the IP leak vulnerability for Steam side clients in there, that was the place to do it and they didn't address it. Again.
9 -
I wonder if all these bans are IP bans or if they're just account bans.
Not that I'm not ecstatic they're doing something about the cheating wave, but I wonder if those last week 2 000 bans are really that many cheaters or 50 times the same person each.
0 -
They don’t like to talk about specific cheats typically, but they do mention stopping stream sniping as an early goal in that post and that probably includes plugging holes to identify IP addresses.
5 -
Probably account ban because i saw the guy on Youtube, who was cheating without fear. He had a lot Epic accounts.
7 -
Thanks for pointing to it.

Yeah, I'm really glad to hear this. Definitely an improvement over the radio silence.
I'm looking forward to the additional failsafes, especially the auto match end. I was hoping we'd see an improved report system in general, but the feedback that your report actually accomplished something should help galvanize the people who are willing to put in all the time and effort to report someone.

Maybe this is why there is nothing "big" coming this midchapter.

I think it's great but people are going to abuse it. I'm concerned about permanent bans for people who get reported for reacting to someone who sandbags. It doesn't happen very often at all but here is an example.
Another survivor body blocks me at the beginning of the game until killer shows up. Killer downs me and puts me on hook. I'm pissed. Everyone gets to end game. I see an opportunity for revenge and am able to block opening the exit while killer is in range. The sandbagger gets downed and hooked as everyone else leaves. They record only that last part and report me.
I'll be pretty upset if I get banned and have no recourse.
1 -
The example would deserve you getting banned. Just because someone else broke the rules doesn’t mean you can too.
4 -
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/139-game-rules We also have more information here, on what constitutes a temporary or permanent ban.
7 -
Firstly, would be pretty reasonable ban of you. Shouldn't break rules, you know.
Secondly, record them and report too. The reason you get banned in this hypothetical situation and him not is because one of you was more responsible with the game health.
Thirdly, those bans, I think, don't work for only one instance. Maybe couple reports from different games should be made to show you as a serial sangbagger who needs to be punished.

Let's freaking GO!!!
2 -
That wasn't the point at all, lol.

Thank you.

Awesome, good to hear Epic Games Store users finally got removed from the game. (Half-Joking)

Hopefully we will be able to report people in game and not need to record all of our matches in order to actually send a report, because last time I tried to send a report I was just told there was nothing that could be done because I had no video.
3 -
I just wish someone would tell us if in-game reports on console alone are enough for BHVR to investigate a potential cheater. I decided to jump back in the game last night and went against a Pig who had Pimento and Devour Hope. We literally cleansed all the totems and despite doing so, Devour Hope was still active. When I finally ran into the Pig, I was downed instantly and killed. 8 totem cleanses, Devour Hope triggered at 5 tokens after we already cleansed all the totems. Pimento was triggered after we destroyed all the totems. Not to mention the Pig knew where everyone was without haven't any aura reading perks.
I say this because a lot of cheaters are subtle and yes, maybe this wasn't a cheater, but I'd at least like to know that my in-game reports matter alone. Many of us players aren't going to have video evidence or can't send a ticket on the website as easily as PC players can. So if someone from BHVR can confirm if the in-game reporting feature works by itself and we shouldn't have to do all this extra work to report cheaters or players who are sus, then I'm fine with the direction anti cheat is going in.

Not sure how welcome this "news" is going to be to those being taken hostage....
- Prevent sniping into players lobbies, "first version of this fix is currently slated for this fall".
- Preventing cheaters from holding players hostage, "this particular change is planned for this Q4 2022".
In the meantime, players/streamers will continue to be sniped by their cloudId, and held hostage for 2 hours.
0 -
In this specific instance, it could be due to Devour sometimes not deactivating when it's cleansed. This is a bug, not a cheater's work.

i play huntress and people often call me cheater. Once i played against a streamer. I decided to watch replay and his friend was crying the entire round that i was cheating. People all the time whine in chat and say that they reported me. I wonder if i will be affected if many people report me.
(mostly they think that i have wallhack and some sort aim, actualy they just run near lockers and i see them because of dredge`s perk and they run in a straight line so i snipeshot them all the time)

We do state about our reporting procedures in our game rules https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/139-game-rules for players that you suspect of cheating, video evidence would be required to supplement the in-game report.
1 -
That I did not know and I hope they are aware of this then. We had 1 gen left and everyone else was on second hook state, one dead, and I hadn't been hooked yet and I'm not great at looping but I figured I'd try and keep the killer busy so the last gen could get done. Died instead. 😪

Probably the same people several times, otherwise we should see huge drops on Steamcharts after a banwave, like one month suddenly the game has 20k less players.
Your example is the equivalent of "that guy robbed me at gunpoint so Im going to rob him at gunpoint too and cops shouldnt interfere if they see me since Im just paying back", if someone intentionally sandbags you, record and report it, same as if someone commits a crime.
1 -
Unfortunately, that's not really possible with most players like myself on console, especially for those of us who don't stream content. There needs to be a better way of reporting cheaters or even suspected cheaters than needing video evidence. I've played other competitive games and never was required video, so I'm sure there's a way. I really hope you guys get this fixed because the reporting feature is part of the problem. A lot of people are reporting without video, mostly because they can't or like me, don't feel it's worth spending 20ish minutes to report a cheater because we don't have easy access to provide video evidence. There has to be a better way.

i was banned once. I played mostly myers back then.
i took a break from a game for like several months. then i decided to play again (at that moment i got a realy bad graphic card. lowest tier. i had 15-20 fps in game) i played 2-3 rounds and then i was banned. if survivork made 360 around me i had to turn my camera and fps dropped even lower. The only strange thing i noticed is that once or twice when they finished a gen it was not considered as completed. It popped but number remained the same. Idk whether it was related to a bad graphic card.
i was banned forever. I thought this was it. I sent a report and then i was unbanned . i have no idea how it works. Idk why i was banned and why was unbanned. May be i was banned because of tinkerer. Sometimes foolish surviviors cry about lack of terror radius

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is all we ever asked for. For BHVR to aknowledge the problem and tell us they will take action. Everyone understands that there is no way to immediately get rid of cheaters entirely but just knowing it's a priority is enough to put us at ease and don't feel like the problem is ignored alltogether.

Whilst I completely understand the points you are making and appreciate it's not always the easiest thing to record video. You can do this from consoles (unfortunately not Switch), following the procedure here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/66835/recording-evidence-for-your-player-report
1 -
Well done BHVR, much appreciated

Why has a replay system not been added so that players don't have to be constantly recording? Given how prominent cheaters are and how archaic the report system is it would at least let people report if they are not constantly recording their games. As it is right now it seems like the only people who can really report cheaters are streamers.
2 -
Um thanks? lol. My concern was mostly about being permanently banned and if they could be too. Lmao

50.000 so far this year alone.
Its like... 50 players with 1000 accounts each
1 -
Thanks for the info! I'll play around with this. I'm also glad you understand and hopefully someday this won't be much of a hassle. I really think one of the main issues is that I can send a report via Edge on my Series X, but there's no copy and paste function which is what makes it more difficult. Of course, that's an Xbox issue so I don't fault BHVR for it. If I was able to copy and paste things with much more ease on the console, I'd think it'd be less of an issue. Plus now I know how to easily upload videos to Youtube. Thanks again!

Sorry for tag but you're already here @Peanits
Is it not possible for the server to be made to automatically detect things that shouldn't be able to happen?
I.e. survivor is detected moving at 102% speed, checked against perks/situations that could cause that speed (just dark theory I think?) automatically flagged if it doesn't make sense.
If such a thing we're possible it would surely shut down cheating pretty quickly, although I'm not the most tech-savvy person around

The news on the anticheat is exactly what I want to see. Knowing if my reports did anything but also them outright confirming whether they were currently working on safeguards.
Excellent post and nothing to add but that's all I and many others wanted - Just tell me what you're up to in the grand scheme of things. Knowing a number of people who have been banned helps too.
I'm totally all for shaming people who get banned just like Siege but I know we won't go to that degree. That being said I can now look forward to the future a little more confidently now. Just occasional communication like that helps.

Reporting cheaters requiring a video and external report is ridiculous and absurd.

This
2 -
Such a replay system would have had to been built into their game coding back in 2016. To add it now would require a complete recoding, something they have no plans to do last time it was brought up in the latest Q&A I believe.
0 -
Yeah, with so many free/disposable accounts out there, it would be nice if hardware bans were issued, rather than just account bans.
That said, this is all really good news.
1 -
Agreed
0 -
IP bans are pointless, changing IP nowadays is extremely easy
0 -
There is a saying: I read the words, alone, I lack faith. BHVR has gambled away a lot of trust.
1 -
I agree with this.
Just FYI, if you are on PC on at least Windows 10, the built-in Xbox game bar has background recording you can flip on. Obviously this requires a bit of resources so it may not work well on weaker PCs, but on most PCs it should be fine.
Once it is turned on you can just press Win+Alt+G to save off the last 5 minutes of your game. I use this all the time to report cheaters, and to my knowledge every ticket I've submitted has resulted in a ban.
0 -
It's "good news" but I'm gonna be real with you BHVR - I actually just don't trust you with this. Reports actually DOING something? I'll believe it when I see it, not before.
1 -
So it's literally useless for 99.99% of players. Who is just randomly recording all their games?
