Any response from BHVR why time limited skins are in a paid game?
Pretty straightforward. Most of have put hundreds of dollars in this game. That is not enough? Time limited cosmetics, which are usually in F2P games, are warranted here?

I rather doubt that most players have put hundreds of dollars into the game, much less on cosmetics, but I very much would like to hear BHVR's reasoning for this.

There has been plenty of sales. But this game retailed at full price. If you have been playing for awhile, you have likely been buying 6-10 dollar chapters every few months. Plus paying for cosmetics and battle passes.
13 -
It's probably a strategy to get people to play. Limited time frame to get these cosmetics so better get on the game and play.
4 -
More likely to get people to buy skins under pressure before they are gone for good. That said, I'm interested in a response.

Don’t expect a response before they even officially announce what kind of time limit it actually is. We have only seen the info in the trailer but nothing more. And as this seems to be a very controversial topic in the community they won’t give an answer without having higher ups/marketing/sales etc greenlight it
4 -
Why wouldn't they? They read every post and this is an issue of much concern in the community.

i didn’t say they won’t answer at all. But as it’s of great interest they would need to make sure to give a correct answer which needs to be carefully written otherwise it will lead to more misinformation and frustration.

I've probably spent around 300 dollars at this point and after 12,000 hours in game I'll go ahead and tell you these "time limited outfits" will end up in the store next year around this time or next year around Christmas on sale I don't care what anyone says that's always what they end up doing even if they don't come right out and say it, my evidence? Look at the David jacket from the lunar event and the spirit Kate shirt we had to grind for in past events that were time limited and you had to earn them and now they're default on both of them they just gave them away.
2 -
The way I thought time limited cosmetics meant was in the form of an Event, something like obtaining Davids Untamned Donkey Jacket, Huntress' Hound Mask, Kate's Free Songbird Shirt or Billy's Pro-Pain Hammer. Which I was all for, I love showing off those kind of things to show how long Ive played the game
But time limited locked behind a paywall? Come on...

This weekend is Thanksgiving in Canada so earliest we'll hear anything is Tuesday. I have a feeling though they're just going to hope players lose their steam complaining or get distracted by something else.
2 -
A sadly effective tactic.
3 -
Worst part, it worked like a charm before
Prime gaming reward is 400k bloodpoints? Here the new patch notes! Talk about it!
3 -
I’ve 100% purchased hundreds of dollars in cosmetics. So doubt no more.
2 -
Why are BHVR required to give a response? If you don’t like this, don’t buy the skins or just stop playing the game altogether.
4 -
You, I, and anyone posting on these forums aren't 'most players.' By dint of being here, we're in a subset that is more invested than the average user.
I don't doubt anyone's spent hundreds in cosmetics, I doubt that the players who have make up a significant portion of the playerbase.
3 -
Fair enough

Because the community is asking for a few clarifications and is not ok with these kind of tactics? They are not required to give an answer, but you know, when your clients have some doubts, the sensible thing would be to clarify those doubts, instead of caving in and ignoring them

Just FOMO like mentioned.
Kinda sucks that events and open Rifts feel like a chore. Funnily enough its part of why I don't get into too many modern games at once.
Don't wanna get locked into playing through 3 daily tasks on 5 different games every day, or grind 5 battle passes at once.
4 -
I really wonder about FOMO though because people who get into the game later have no chance of getting something in the first place. That’s lost sales. I got into the game March this year and some things I didn’t realise were time limited I missed out on but would have bought. Other things too from before I was around I might have bought. All that is lost sales.
I mean maybe the amount of new players who buy isn’t high enough to counter the effect of FOMO on the current player base but still… it feels scummy. If they really want to exploit FOMO simply make such things half price on release then jack the price up later as to not block out people who want it but never had a chance.

I have a question, do time-limited skins return in 1/2 years to the shop or are they limited to this halloween only?
0 -
Nobody knows.

If you reach rift level 70, you get all the auric cells back you invested. Therefore, doing all the 10+ rifts we had until now, I only ever paid for the first one. All the others I could buy with the cells I got back from the previous rift. Combined with never buying cosmetics for real money (shards are fine) and only buying licensed chapters when they are discounted, my money spent for the game might still be less than 100 bucks. Which is nothing considering I played the game for more than 4k hours.
1 -
They're not required but it would be nice to have an answer. There is no seemingly good reason for a limited time skin to be in the game that you have to pay for to play. If they stay in silence then that would mean they are contempt with people thinking they're scummy for using such a tactic, and according to a past statement "we are afraid to make changes" which in other words means they are afraid of what the community will do and say about them.
2 -
There is no FOMO when it comes to DbD cosmetics; just the false appearance of it, only for them to be available to all players a little later. Let's not forget about the 'exclusive' Dwightcrow charm.
1 -
The halloween skins from last year in the event tome are available now in the store iirc. Seems like the timed skins are 1 year exclusive period before being available again.
0 -
As much as i dislike the time limited exclusivity, it honestly shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that they're trying to do this now considering how they got away with it before with the whole amazon prime exclusivity.
0 -
To be fair, the charms are like the only real exclusive cosmetics in the game. Those event charms do seem to be the exception though.
0 -
If you never clarify whether something will return or not after the initially allotted timeframe it's still inducing FOMO, even if it returns completely unannounced at a later date.
Why you ask? It's because if I say "This is available only from 11th of October to 3rd of November" without adding anything, you'll fear that after the 3rd of November they will never come back, and you could panic buy it because of FOMO.
Dwightcrow is a perfect example for this. People were induced in FOMO and stormed the Fog Whisperers streams to get a code before the deadline. The fact that they then later released a code valid for everyone changed nothing for what had happened 2 months prior.
The key difference between Dwightcrow and an in game skin? The charm was free to get, the skin you need to pay for it. And paying for something that you believe is time-limited and exclusive, only for that item being released permanently without noone knowing beforehand is a lot worse than finding out you wasted a bit of time watching a stream.

I mean you already get recolors of existing skins in premium rift track, something I find completely outrageous so,,,
1 -
stop spending money on their skins and then they will hear what you have to say they dont care about you or the community unless it hurts there pocket.
5 -
Still no answers from BHVR, but don't worry! It's not gonna stop them from doing so: https://deadbydaylight.com/news/store-collection-release-chapter26/
4 -
There is a silver lining this time though. If it's going to be available for over 4 weeks that means they should become available for shard purchase on 29th december. Unless they decide to make an exception, but that would be unforeseen.
0 -
Atleast these will be available for little more than 4 weeks so if you wait you can get them with shards for the last few days they're available. Still not a fan of them continuing time limited cosmetics like this. Also sucks for the Yun Jin mains that finally get a cosmetic and may not be around/able to get that cosmetic in that short period of time.
1 -
Because money over anything else.
This game has been a toxic for a while now and they dont care how enjoyable your experience is,if they we're they would have done more to fix cheating and punished toxicity, but they dont.
2 -
greed
3 -
idk whats wrong with seasonal cosmetics
1 -
Time limited skins is not a rare thing nowadays. Also, most "time limited" skins come available at a later time to annoyance of other community members.

Money
2 -
Tons of paid games have limited time cosmetics this isn’t a new thing. I don’t see the issue.
3 -
Well then. Guess l'll know what to expect for the new years event.
0 -
Unless they confirm that, I wouldn't count on it.
5 -
Even if that turns out to be true (don't get your hopes up) the issue is not "They are Auric Cells only". We've had "Auric Cells only" skins for years in the game and there's no issue in that.
The issue is FOMO. FOMO is NOT okay.
6 -
I agree, overall I'm not a fan of them doing this and I've said multiple times I think they need to stop with exclusives and FOMO.
The being available for shards though atleast gives people a chance to not be forced to spend real money or miss out.
1 -
The being available for shards though atleast gives people a chance to not be forced to spend real money or miss out.
Unless they confirm that I'm going to assume they're not going to be available for shards.
Still, anyone who doesn't have enough shards (and 5 outfits cost a LOT of shards) will be still forced to miss out on those, unless they cough up money.
3 -
BHVR won't speak about this because it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't.
If they acknowledge this new predatory business model, they'll get tons of ######### from players going "if you know it's scummy, why do you keep doing it ? That doesn't sound like labor of love !" and the added awareness of the problem might make more players decide to boycott the cosmetics.
And if they don't acknowledge it, people will grumble about it on the forum, the cosmetics will keep selling, and it will either eventually die down on its own or take a lot of time to explode.
They'd be unwise to acknowledge this.
1 -
What do you expect them to say tbf? It was done to get more sales from impulse buying and bring players in for the event.
I can see 0 other reason to do it
1 -
They said that those skins would be shard buy after 4 weeks.I feel fair those who support with money get the exclusivity for a year.
0 -
Nothing. But why, after 6 years, suddenly change up your view on seasonals from year round (previous Christmas + Blighted skins) to time limited? And what's right with time-gated cosmetics? What do we, as players, stand to gain from this movement?
7 -
It's "not okay", so what? If it earns them more money they will just keep doing it regardless of how people feel about it. It must have earned more during the halloween event so now they are doing it again.
If people are going to complain about it but still buy them anyways then i have to accept how it's just going to work now.
I am happy, that at least this time around it looks like i will still be able to get the cosmetic that i want for free in this limited time window.
0 -
The fact that they are ignoring all the critisism from this speaks for itself.
It's greed, they want more money. It couldnt be any simpler than that guys.
BHVR isnt going to care about any of the criticisms while they are still making money hand over fist from it. It's like verbally telling someone not to do something then immediately handing them $100 to do it...which action do think would have the strongest effect.
If you don't like it, then vote with your wallet, that's pretty much all you can do in cases like this.
