Just got a notification that rift cosmetics for Feng and Clown are now available for "a limited time." The entire forum was stoked when we heard this was becoming a thing. Seems like they heard us. Let's see how far it goes!

BHVR: Skins now go for shards 4 weeks after release.
Also BHVR: (but now they won't even be in the store for 4 weeks lol)

That sucks. I really like the Feng skin and would have loved for it to be in the store in the future for Iri shards.

It is a bit strange. Limited time only also means limited time customer interaction and limited time return on work done (as well as limited time customer base range, that is, of course, unless you do complete resets every couple of years that wipes all player investments/purchases in lue of "zomgosh is DBD 2!" like with overwatch...)

These are Rift outfits. The main reason people asked for these outfits to be released in the store is "I wasn't playing at the time and I love that skin".
Guess which problem releasing a time-limited skin DOES NOT solve?

they just waited for the controversy to fizzle out so people would stop bringing it up instead of actually addressing the issue. they hid some replies to later tweets talking about it iirc. i'd like to think it's out of shame but it's also a real easy way to avoid taking responsibility for godawful decision making so i lean more towards that

They did not actually stop what they had started. They let it run it's course and then let it fade away.

They'll be in here claiming that it's OK because rift is supposed to be time limited exclusives even though when they announced it on stream and later on in (now deleted) blog post they said the outfits would be available in store 6 months later for those that missed out. The defenders will be here soon enough with their excuses for anti-consumer behavior by BHVR.

On one hand, I hope they'd get a reality check from BHVR when they'll use the same time-limited tactic on something else than skins
On the other hand, I wish BHVR would backtrack immediately on this ugly-ass decision because I don't want this crap in DBD

Time urgency is an effective marketing strategy.
And tbh, i don't believe BHVR when it comes to any time-limited events/purchases; They always come back most of the time.

However unless they decide to be transparent with the cosmetic, such as using "recurring time-limited outfit" terminology, I'll just lean on the more negative interpretation. (And have more fun stirring the pot as getting more people riled up that it's limited will only serve to get more people to buy it, even at PR expense, and money is the goal amirite?)
Oh hang on, this is about the doctor feng skins that are not part of the Halloween time period. In which case, I suppose it will remain to be seen. Could go with "[The Rift's] Exclusive access [to Cosmetics] before anyone else" as the Rift access to cosmetics is a much more reliable and timely method of acquiring a cosmetic than waiting for an unknown amount of time for those cosmetics to enter the store normally.

Why would you even do this to rift rereleases? It's not profitable. A large portion of your players already have them.

That's why you DON'T release a time limited skin for her: so that NEW Feng players can throw you money for that skin as soon as they start playing.

I dont know if that was their own initiative or the NFT market sinking so the backlash/profit isnt as attractive as it was when the whole Pinhead debacle.

While that's true, the rift it debuted in contained 2 original Feng outfits. (I remember being annoyed by that at the time...) I can't imagine any Feng devotee wouldn't have gotten the battlepass then.
Rift rereleases are the absolute worst kind of cosmetic to go cash grab on, especially not a rift from only a year ago. If it was from rift 1 or 2, there'd at least be a sizable portion of current users who missed out on it. Right now, it's just a confusing decision to flex this new limited edition mechanic absolutely nobody asked for.
