Hot take: Pop should go back to the way it was

I honestly think pop should be reverted.

I honestly don't like the idea of RNG based gen slowdown with Pain Res. and I honestly dont like the idea of having to stack 2-3 gen kicking perks just to get some value.

I play Clown and its enough I have no map pressure, but on top of huge maps with horrible RNG.....sheesh

I think ruin is still a good information perk when combined with surveillance. I use it all the time on Artist. If it doesn't get cleansed right away, it provides a lot of information. Not so much for slowdown though

Yeah, I have tried that on Artist and it was alright for info but didn’t feel like it was worth two perk slots especially when one is attached to a totem.

The only other use I’ve found for it after the nerf was on Legion with the Fuming Mixtape addon; since the Ruin + Fuming regression effects stack, you can basically get pre-nerf Ruin during frenzy which actually proved to be fairly effective when combined with the information the addon gives you.

Beyond that, tried it on a few other killers with little success, and can only recall one game facing it as survivor where it actually did substantial damage to our repairs (and several others where it did little to nothing).

its not RNG, Pain Res reduces the gen with the most progress.

If you're playing Clown, Pain Res is better than Pop because you aint got mobility.

You got it all kinds of wrong up in here.

Honestly I think it should be buffed to 25% of current progress.

Hotter take: Bring back original Pop. 60 seconds of use, 25% off a gen. Remember, killers lost often even with that version of the perk. It would be like dumping pre-nerf Freddy or Wraith into today's meta; they wouldn't stand a chance but at least they'd be better than what we have now.

Pop/Pain Res beat bad teams who gave the killer tons of downs and hooks consistently. Shocker. That's who it was actually oppressive against. As soon as those things don't happen, those perks give you nothing. Crazy how you don't think Pop was equally as destroyed as Ruin. No straight-up regression now, just a percentage of whatever. What makes Pop so good? You're gonna take slightly less than 20% off a gen max, and that's when it's 99'd. Otherwise, it takes off like 3% of a gen. So decent, or dare I say oppressive.

The perk feels fine on high mobility killers like Blight but it definitely won't do well on low mobility killers.

The current gen kicking meta is erupt + CoB so I don't see why they wouldn't shake it up by making a 3rd equally powerful perk. If killers want to stack 4 slowdown, they'll do so anyway.

At least Pop gives you regression that doesn't get cleansed in the first 30 seconds because survivors still spawn 2 feet away from hex totems for some reason.

And yet you have 45 seconds to find a gen that its actually worth using on, with diminishing returns depending on how far along it is(n't). If they want to keep it the way it works now, it needs to at least not require extra perks to even know which gen it should be used on. They were afraid it would be too oppressive with the variably increased gen time, but it is considerably weaker across the board on any gen that isnt just about done. Even if they didn't want to revert it to the flat 25%, it still got overnerfed pretty hard and could certainly use some help.

I think it’s fine current pop. You can get a lot of value when using with surveillance and pain resonance. Try it!

Remember that they didn't nerf it for being OP, they nerfed it for being used. A la, Self Care.

They aren't going to revert it.

I don't think it should tbh, I am finding a lot of killers run very oppressive multiple slowdown builds these days and it can make solo queue a bit miserable. Pop was really strong before the nerf and adding that to the list of oppressive gen control builds would be very unwelcome

What would you trade back for Pop? Ruin and Pop are out, Overcharge and Eruption are in, but I am not sure the net slowdown has changed much. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, kinda. Meta shakeup without really giving or taking too much.

That said, the Pop/CoB combo was arguably nastier than CoB/Overcharge.

Yes, please, PGTW, Call of Brine, Eruption sounds like a great combo, 11/10 would love to lose against bad Killers with that because they manage to drag the game out until no ressources are left.

    Even hotter take:

Old Pop was 30 seconds and 25% at Tier 3.

'Shaking up the meta' wasn't a success. The new meta is just so much worse than the old meta it replaced, and yes we still have a meta.

Pop is a good example of that. It was a perk that required the killer to make and leave a hook in order to use. It discouraged camping, and to an extent tunnelling too, because you're likely to find it easier to find a new survivor after Popping a gen then to walk back to the hook.

The Eruption/Overcharge/Call of Brine meta that replaced it, has no requirements or knock-on effects in terms of hooking, camping and tunnelling. In fact Eruption is disproportionately powerful against solo's, so it has that toxicity angle going for it too.

Its always slowdown vs 2nd chance. Except 2nd chance are heavily nerfed, survivors have to use Gen perks.

Killers still just use difference slowdown.

Pop is fine, it actually gives decent regression assuming you aren’t wasting it on generators with low progress. Pain Resonance is overall stronger but that doesn’t make Pop bad. And it’s actually still an above average usage perk according to Nightlight (it actually apparently sees a little more use than Nurse’s Calling) so it also doesn’t need a buff in order to increase its pick rate.

Revert Calm Spirit changes while you're at it, or let players hold Crouch to cleanse/bless/search slowly and quietly.

Pop still helps where it matters most: against gens that are almost completely repaired. It still pairs great with BBQ, Tinkerer, Discordance, and/or Merciless Storm. The issue is that there’s no reason to choose it really, with the availability of stackable regression perks such as Call of Brine - which come with absolutely no downside (no activation requirement or cool down, while also providing information much of the time).

Well nevermind. The version of Pop that I said then, Pop at its peak strength. I do pride myself of knowing the history of balance changes on perks and killers, but I haven't got everything.
