Why, just why
Look at this game, this are my normal "nurse" games.
why cant i have a normal game with a killer close to my MMR? is too much to ask that i am not matched against nurses with 7x my playtime?
I am clearly not a high MMR player, as i play mainly soloQ but this happens every 2 -3 games.
2 normal games --- 1 4,6k nurse --- 2 normal games --- this guy with 6,2k on nurse

the devs dont know what theyre doing

You're not alone.
6 -
First, how do you know they're not close to your MMR?
Second is even if they're very high MMR the system has to put them against somebody and if there's nobody in their bracket they'll go against whoever happens to be available. No MMR system is going to get around that.

If you're GM in Overwatch you don't play against Plats.
1 -
MMR is the cancer of the game, just BHVR likes him, and they dont care about if we like or not.
1 -
Looking at the scoreboard, it doesn't look that badly matched.
6 -
OH don't worry you do buddy since ow2 it's even worse so so many new players flooding the game that the system needs to put them somewhere so as a Plat I get people that literally just started and I see my fair share of players that are much much higher then me to while mm is bonker atm
1 -
Doesnt matter if you think you might be close to their mmr range. The matter of fact is mmr has a soft cap for matchmaking so you can be 1600 mmr and still be pitted against someone with 1100 for "queue time" purposes.
1 -
because he was very good with nurse?
because he barely missed any blinks?
because i barely lasted 25sec in any chase?
I understand that there must not be many survivors in these hours, but it is frustrating as hell to be playing normally and suddenly you are matched up with these beasts that stomps you effortless

I still comment on the OW2 forums but I gave up on it.
Used to be Plats didn't match with GM's lmao

I was just about to say the same thing. In matches where I get curbstomped by Nurse, hardly anyone breaks 10k. I'd love to have scores like that as my norm against Nurse.
1 -
In my case, it was because of the dowsing rods and prove thyself that i've got my score that high, I died second after the nea
0 -
I did lol but the other way around its just as bad I would say destroying people that don't even know all characters

Overwatch 2 also reportedly is experiencing wait times of up to 15-20 minutes for a match. They're trading off keeping matchmaking criteria close for speed.

LOL who plays Plaything on nurse ? Weird.

Plaything is decent slowdown and it can be hard for survivors to ignore oblivious against a nurse.

Its because MMR doesnt actually work and here's why.
Eventually every player will get to soft cap MMR. (Lets call this number 1600 for now)
So now we are all at 1600 MMR we can still earn more MMR and go up.
As its easier to earn than lose MMR (or so we are told and how it seems) then it means you will likely stay at soft cap and above indefinatly.
This means that even if you have 10000 MMR you will be match randomly with anyone 1600+ which will mean you can be matched against the best killer in the world or the worst as long as they reached soft cap MMR.
Scott Jund actually summed this up at the start of his video really well its worth a look.

They can still hear her scream no matter what.

It's harder to lose MMR that to earn it? Do we have any information about this? Is there a cap on how much you can lose, or will you go back down to the equivalent of brown ranks if you AFK 1000 games or something?

Because the community had a problem with the old matchmaking. So they widened the pool of people you possible could get matched with
extremely simplified:
you start with 1000 MMR points
you gain andaverage of 20 MMR per game so you need at least 30 games to be at 1600 MAX MMR (for matchmaking)
It's not that much right? But lets go further
Lets take some numebrs bc I can't remember the exact ones they shared with us.
You have 1600 MX matchmaking-mmr: The game also matches you with people with 1450 mmr. This widens over a few seconds because the community wants instand games and don't wait for even a minute. So if it takes 1 minute for you to find a game the MMR says: okay I'll also match you with people with lets say 1200 MMR.
1200 MMR when the starting value is 1000.
it doesn't matter what the exact numbers are because that's literally how it works. There is a little newbie-bubble and that's it. The Community hates "long" qtimes and they love slapping noobs. It's not a MMR. It kinda? was? for a while. But yea, have fun. Stats say it's fine.

I feel like I have to correct this every time it comes up. Scott was wrong. He was not correct. If you use a few dummy accounts to test it out, the adjustments are going to be uniform because they all had the same MMR on the test accounts. I don't have the thread/threads, but the devs have been on here a few times stating that MMR gains are not uniform or static, nor does MMR adjust after every match depending on the opponent level. Someone could check their MMR right now and see a number that ends in a 3 or 7. That immediately renders Scott's video false.
1 -
That means the matchmaking barely works at all, if you can reach that softcap where everyone can be matched with everyone within 30 matches. It's the same as not having any mmr at all
0 -
Players like to quote the Scott Jund video, but it's wrong. Only ~5% of the community is at or above the soft cap currently. You don't gain a uniform amount of MMR for every win regardless of opponent level.

Can't read scoreboards? Points were greatly inflated by the Halloween event offerings. The nurse was obviously toying with them, not playing optimally, and going for the 12 hooks. Even so, it probably finished at 3 gens, the nurse in no real danger of even coming close to losing.
3 -
but there is a soft cap and eventually everyone WILL hit that. Its just the way these sorts of games works and once everyone is at softcap MMR then there is no matchmaking as such its then just random placement.
If that is not the case and MMR works fine then why is it some games I get a fair game, some games i get all 3k+ hour survivors and get destroyed and sometimes i get 100 hour survivors and i destroy them.
Bottom line you get matches like the OP's post because MMR does not and will never work in this game due to imbalance.

I can't remember where I read this now but it does certainly feel like you don't lose ranking fast enough compared to how you gain it.
Of course if you afk 1000 games then your gonna be at the bottom however if you afk 1000 games your likely not gonna have an account afterwards. In general play you will win and lose but because of how the game is chances are you will win more than lose (its just the lost games stand out more due to it being a really rough/bad game). Given this we will all be in that Top MMR bracket eventually.
What behaviour should do is actually give us the numbers instead of saying "yeah there is totally an MMR score behind the scenes and it totally works. Trust us guys"
If we could see these figures. KNow exactaly how much we are gaining or losing per match then as a community we could probably help behaviour create a system that works but because they don't ask for that help and just effectivly wing it we get information like "Kills and escapes are all that matters. if you don't escape you are bad and if you don't kill you are bad"

I think it's a tad generous to say everyone will hit the soft cap, lots of very casuals and legit potatoes out there.
But I think the notion that there is no top MMR is generally correct. I think there was, for just a minute, during their SBMM tests, but the problem is that queue times when the system is too selective are just untenable. So we're left with the grab bag. The game is just too imbalanced, and the skill markers to hard to define for accurate SBMM in DBD to be a thing, sadly.
And tbh, I'd actually prefer the grab bag to 30-60 minute queues.
That said, I think the shifting the playerbase the followed 6.1.0 has thrown things into further chaos.

How do you know he has his whole time on nurse?
I have 7k+ hours in the game, but 3/4 of it is solo survivor, and maybe 1/4 killer, and while i have 2 mainkiller and 2-3 i play from time to time, i play every killer i get a daily for. Doesnt mean i have much experience on any of them. I almost never play nemesis, artist, or several others.
Thus, this killer might just be in the same mmr as you are.

I have realised the MMR in this game is very loose and it will maybe match you with the closest it can find and failing that it will just match you with anyone at all.
Honestly while it is not ideal, I don't miss the old days of playing too much after rank reset and getting to rank 1 then struggling to find any games, to the point you have to intentionally throw to de-rank so you can find matches (no I am not a god player, just played a lot lol).

Exactly.

You're misunderstanding how a Glicko system works. MMR is a relative number, meaning it doesn't go up at all in many instances if your opponents are far below you and vice versa. Someone would have to consistently beat opponents at that 1700 MMR mark to maintain 1700 MMR, and obviously not everyone is at the same skill level so that doesn't happen.
The reason you get unfair games is because of the matchmaking range, not because everyone and their brother is at the soft cap. The acceptable matchmaking range is +/-350 MMR. Even if you are thoroughly average at 1350 MMR, you are still within matchmaking range of the top 5% of the playerbase near the soft cap. That doesn't mean *you* are at the soft cap. 1350+350=1700.

Exactly this.

It's especially ridiculous when you have legit comp level 1900+ MMR assassins on killer that get rounded down and then matched further downward into -400 or more territory. 4k at 4 gens with a single slowdown. Fun game for all involved. Don't fear the boosted double range Nurse with 4 slowdowns. Fear the Nurse with 1 slowdown and no add ons who still annihilates the entire team in 5 minutes

That was my thought. The Nea died early-ish, even without the event offering, but everyone got some decent points in and it looks like the game made it a decent way in before it ended. Dying with 44k points is pretty solid. Take away the event stuff and that's still over 20k. The Nurse probably drew stuff out with Eruption/CoB, but like... a Nurse match can easily end with everyone sub-10k, so it's not that bad.
Playtime also stops mattering that much beyond the 1k hour mark. I have over 3k hours and I'm nothing special.
