Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Trickster - Main Event & Laceration: A Rework (w/ TLDR at bottom)

I've made something like this before, but I felt that the previous iteration was too oppressive. This version should be more thematic, unique, and fair.

Current Main Event

Main Event is a Trickster ability that can be activated after hitting 30 knives onto survivors and sends a flurry of knives automatically in the direction faced while moving at normal knife-holding speed. Main Event currently has a 30 second window to activate to encourage the use of the power in the moment of its activation and lasts 10 seconds after activation.

New Main Event

This new Main Event has a map-wide visual change that makes the map look more stage-like once activated. 36 charges are required for its activation compared to the previous 30. Survivors will hear a special lullaby melody that is map-wide during Main Event. Main Event will also apply a debuff to survivors and a change to Trickster. Main Event will now use a new mechanic called "Spotlight."

Spotlight Mechanic

Survivors that have a spotlight on them are affected by the blindness status effect. All survivors have a spotlight on them immediately upon activation unless the survivor is already downed or hooked. For Trickster, this spotlight can be seen in the form of a white aura circle which allows for tracking. Survivors that are downed or hooked during Main Event or before its activation will have their spotlight flicker, meaning they are no longer affected by the blindness status effect for the duration of Main Event even if they get back up/off the hook, and Trickster cannot see the auras of their flickering spotlights (this is to prevent tunneling/camping and encourage going after other survivors that are being tracked during Main Event).

Trickster Changes

During Main Event, Trickster can only use his knives, but runs at his normal base movement speed (4.4) until he begins throwing knives, which will slow him down as usual. His throw rate is not adjusted in any way, but he has unlimited knives temporarily and must manually throw the knives as usual with recoil still applied. Additionally, similar to Plague's power, Main Event will be deactivated if Trickster is stunned during the duration.

Power Duration

The power duration of this new Main Event is a 10 second window to activate with a 20 second duration of the power. This would mean that if Trickster had downed someone and Main Event had been powered during that time, he would be encouraged to either find other survivors to make use of the power instead of hooking the downed survivor, take the risk and hook anyway, or activate and then hook the survivor which would lose some time of the duration. This short window to activate is done so that Trickster cannot simply hook a survivor and then use the power at the last possible second to camp. The auras of the spotlights are shown to encourage Trickster to chase survivors during Main Event or to simply find out where the survivors currently are. Additionally, The Trickster will still have a short fatigue effect and be unable to use his knives temporarily after Main Event ends just like in the current game.

Laceration Changes

When survivors are hit by knives, their laceration meter will build up like normal for each knife hit and up to a maximum of 6 bars where their health state changes, and their laceration meter resets. However, only one bar of the laceration meter will decay naturally over time if not hit by a knife in 15 seconds as usual. Once this bar has decayed, survivors can be prompted to remove the remaining knives individually (2.0 seconds for each laceration bar remaining/faster if another survivor is doing the action). The action button can be held down to continuously perform this action and a bar on the laceration meter will deplete every 2.0 seconds. This allows for Trickster to apply pressure on survivors if he decides to stop chase, but not be unfair for survivors that are looping him well in chase. If a survivor is hit by a basic attack, their entire laceration meter resets.

------------------------------------------------------------

TLDR

Main Event

- Gives Trickster tracking potential

- Gives Trickster temporary power change/buff

Spotlight Mechanic

- Map-wide stage effect

- Map-wide lullaby melody

- Applies blindness status effect on survivors

- Trickster can see spotlight auras

- Disabled if survivors are downed or hooked

Trickster Changes

- Can only use knives during Main Event

- Full base movement speed (slows down when throwing knives)

- Temporary unlimited knives (recoil still applies and no changes to throw rate)

- Stunned = Main Event ends

Power Duration

- 36 charges to activate

- 10 second activation window

- 20 second power duration

Laceration Changes

- Only one bar of laceration meter will decay naturally (decays after 15 seconds of not being hit with Showstopper)

- Must remove remaining knives (must wait for the first bar to naturally decay first before being able to do this action)

- 2.0 second action for each bar remaining in laceration meter (faster if other survivors do the action on afflicted player)

- Successful basic attack resets entire laceration meter

Gonna be honest chief, Im not a huge fan of this.

It just makes him stronger in areas that hes already pretty decent in which is snowballing and camping, and doesnt address one of his main issues of being map dependant. He would also be even more annoying to play against as now his kit would have built in slowdown

I can understand that as this was just a concept I had fun making. Personally, I don't think his map dependency is necessarily an issue of his power as all killers have maps that work well with their power and some that don't, so that seems to be more of a map design issue overall. To address his weaknesses though, I wanted to try and give him two things that he lacks in: tracking and slow down. Both of which he has to earn in a way by chasing survivors compared to someone like Pinhead that gets it passively.

And to clarify, even if they kept him the same, I'd be happy playing him regardless as I find fun. I just thought that making Main Event more thematic to his theme would be interesting. I think if the devs want to realistically help him out though, they should remove recoil from his power on consoles as he underperforms on consoles due to controller joysticks being more difficult to aim with, and give pc players predictable recoil patterns since they are annoyingly random right now.

Trust me, I'm one of the first people who understand making a post like this just for the fun of it. I've been making "rework" type posts for quite a while now al though I haven't done so recently. Trickster is one of the killers I've also had a go at reworking and I think it turned out pretty good while also tackling the majority of his issues. If you're interested, here it is: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/302442/my-attempt-at-a-trickster-rework#latest

Also same thing here, even if he's kept the same I would and am still playing him. And I do agree, recoil is more of an annoyance than anything

It's a cool idea thematically (I believe you've posted it before?) But I feel like it might be too strong.
