Why can't we change our Killer in the lobby anymore?

This was a nice feature. If I want to take out of Pig for a spin and see a bully squad pop up in the lobby, maybe I want to switch to a better Killer.

    "Wait, what...?"

Were you actually able to do that in previous versions? Or am I tripping?

  • Afaik the answer to that question boils down to the fact that since each one of your killers has their own individual MMR, once you queue as a specific killer the game uses that killer's MMR to find your lobbies, so you aren't allowed to switch in order to prevent matchmaking/MMR calculation shenanigans.

Which, if you ask me, is another thing to add to the mile-long list of reasons why MMR shouldn't have happened.

I believe the whole "killer can see the four survivors in lobby" should not be a thing anymore, to be honest.

I would understand this 5 years ago where survivors were much, MUCH stronger with infinite loops, insta heals, insta blinds, old DS, old MoM, etc.

But now killers are clearly stronger than survivors on average. The fact that they can see all four survivors, their items, their prestige, their profile if they are not anonymous, and with all this information they can start using counters before the match even starts feels kinda wrong.

Curious on how you identify a “bully squad” in the lobby? Are you using the Clairvoyance perk?

A few things. High prestige. Multiple flashlights. Certain Survivors especially with certain cosmetics, like neon hair. Most common toxic Survivors in my experience are Nea (a swear most of these Neas are toxic), Feng, Meg, and Steve. Of course it is not an exact science, but pattern recognition shouldn't be ignored.

So if you are in a lobby with high prestige Survivors, 2 Fengs with neon hair, a Nea with neon hair, and a Scoops Ahoy Steve, along with 2 flashlights and 2 toolboxes (likely for sabo). 9.5 out of 10 times, that is a toxic SWF. Doing your Trapper daily will probably not be a good time and it would be nice to switch to a stronger Killer.

  • Being able to see exactly what your opponent is bringing into the match is a staple of 99% of PvP games. If anything I would double down on this feature by allowing all five players to know exactly what the other players in their lobby are bringing in the loading screen, like what DBD mobile does.

    In that i would agree.

If killers can see the info of the entire survivor team, the survivors could at least see the killer they are going up against.

  • I mean Ghostface and Wraith are the only killers I can think of where you'll have to wait longer than 3 seconds to find out.

Well their original reasoning was because killers would have separate mmr’s…until it was released and they gave every killer “nearly” the same mmr as your highest killer..ie completely defeating the entire point of why they prevented you from switching in the first place. If we had “actual” separate mmr’s between killers the feature would’ve made sense, but here we are. They aren’t literally the same but it keeps them all within a pretty small range of the highest to where it’s basically the same. I believe they mentioned this in one of their livestreams, can’t remember which one.

Sure go ahead, let survivor pick perfect anti builds for certain killers.

We did have that when people noticed ahow to extract that information from the client side temporary trial files.

It was a disaster. Every doc saw calm spirit, every spirit the former iron will, every hag and wraith flashlights, trapper toolboxes (when his traps when still could be permanently) disabled and so on.

I am sure there won't be problems with that /s

The only info killer can see are names, items and skins. Its not the end of the world.

But on a serious note, yes survivor should see each other's perks.

But warning: that is also problematic in its own and will lead to lobby dodging, i can promise you that.

Problem is how survs are still able to quickswitch. Not just by switching chars, now we have loadouts aswell.

And killers only can switch builds, but not to another killer.

Easy solution: When the lobby countdown hits that point where no one can hit ready anymore (at like 15 secs. left), both sides can't switch anything anymore.

Then it should only count for survs. 16 secs. are enough time for the killer to adapt to.

I mean you dont even get that much info from the lobby survivors. You can basically only guess if they are an SWF cause if they are they either don't have their profiles on private and are friends with each other or they mostly have matching names.

Other than that u can only see their prestige and items which with true bully squads doesnt even matter cause they will switch last second.

Seeing the killer would give u way too much info in the lobby already. Basically tells u how to hard counter ur killer.

Legion: Go 4 distortion and 4 sprint bursts and sent him to a huge map. Now hes an m1 killer and frenzy is literary useless

plague: just switch out all the healing items and healing perks since u won't use them anyways and go resilience and genrush perks. U will never want to cleanse now since it doesnt give u an advantage and plagues power is also mostly useless.

trapper: go full aura perks like OoO and alert and you mostly know where he sets all his traps and can disarm them

artist: go 4 sprint burst and just run away from every loop so the birds dont catch you. When artist finally catches up to you if your team isn't completely useless 2 gens are done at least. Just repeat 3 times and the game is over.

    ........

So in my opinion seeing the killer would be absolutely broken. Would be the same as seeing like 10 of the 16 survivor perks in the lobby and basically knowing which perks u need to counter them.

I don't feel "clearly stronger" then most of the survivors that I regularly face, but I get your point.

I guess it's part of the "killer stalking he unsuspecting group of survivors" and for a couple of killers you couldnt effort the survivors knowing who they are facing.

I have become quite used to this and think it adds to the pregame atmosphere.

I agree with you, but just to point out, Distortion doesn't counter Legion.

Legion uses Killer Instinct, which isn't blocked by aura blocking.

I also remember when we could switch from survivor to killer or killer to survivor from the lobby. It was may more convenient than how we have to go back to the main menu nowadays.

I’ve gotten so used to this, the only thing I want when queueing is the ability to level another character when queueing as another. Ideally even for the other role.

Agreed. When I see a team that looks like they could be a good challenge I would like to be able to change to my strong killers.

As is I'm locked playing a loosing game from the get go if I'm on a killer I'm not good at, since I dislike dodging.

Not exactly a super big issue, but not my cup of tea either, which defeats the purpose of playing a video game a little bit.
