I can’t get my frozen Pumpkin coffee year round either, but I’m not spamming their mailbox letting them know. I know soon my peppermint mocha will be gone another year…but here I am…accepting it. Stores are not selling Halloween costumes year round …or Christmas trees…..are you grasping the concept?

Up until this recently passed Halloween DbD didn't have time-limited sales on cosmetics and once they released cosmetics in the store they were there to stay.
Time-limited sales are a method (in some opinions scummy) to increase sales on the affected items by inducing FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) in their customers.
That's not really that bad in and of itself (at least in my opinion) but they are not just applying it to new cosmetics. They are taking old cosmetics that in some cases have already been in the store for years and turning them into time-limited, seasonal items. For example, the ugly sweaters.

funny people bring up frozen Pumpkin coffee or peppermint mocha whatever but most starbucks I been to if they have pepper mint or ingredients they make it for you.
I remember they was a starbuck halloween coffee drink remember it was white mocha with raspberry dizzle they made it for me just fine tho the drink was long gone.

I honestly do not understand what's going on, but games like Fortnite literally have item rotation and it changes 24 hours and some items may never appear again and like no one has a meltdown about it, it really is not a big deal at all

Remember when BHVR gave away that hound Huntress mask and a bunch of other cosmetics to everybody because "We don't want to do exclusive cosmetics?"
FOMO-type stuff is pretty exclusive if you ask me. If you weren't around to get them in the time they were there, guess you've gotta wait a whole-ass YEAR.

Exactly.. no one is forced to buy the skins, if you like one and want it you buy it, if you can't you don't, end of the story. Its not like it give any advantage at the game or anything. Stop being drama queens for frivolous and ephemeral things like this.

I can buy a Halloween costume literally any day of the year. It would be utterly ignorant if you could only buy costumes in October.
I'm sure I could buy a Christmas tree any time of year too, they're just a "featured item" around Christmas time.
Not everyone is rich, either; a lot of people don't have the money to simply impulse buy every single skin in the game like you apparently do.

I don't think most of the complainers even understand why they are complaining.
I smile every time I read "shady tactics". I wonder how many of these "straight arrows" are doing any business with Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Take 2, Bethesda ... all having displayed real anti-consumer, manipulative and down-right scummy tactics.
If they do, their voice doesn't hold much weight, does it?
Without mentioning that in any business*, a time-exclusive sale (for any kind of event) is basic commerce. (And also increases the value of the item.)

That said, these situations are when I REALLY wish BHVR forums had a "one thread per topic" thing. At this moment, there are SEVEN topics about this issue on page 1 (I didn't bother to check page 2 if anything had fallen off right away)

Add to the mix the fact that these kind of tactics prey better on those with low impulse control and it's easy to see why people are not happy about bhvr joining the fomo train

From another thread, a very detailed explanation why these tactics are "questionable" at best:
I've been seeing a surprising number of posts defending this kind of practice, while not really grasping what is actually happening with it. FOMO causes an irrational shift in prioritization by directly manipulating the availability of a purchase. This shift is something that your average person is able to maintain a rational perspective regarding, such as "i don't need it that much" or "I can wait for another chance later." The people it is designed to affect, are those with any form of impaired impulse control, or poor budgeting skills. There have been notorious GDC lectures outlining very specifically how to take advantage of these people and try to get as much money as possible out of them, with FOMO being one of the key methods. It is a known business practice that very specifically targets a vulnerable demographic.
Lets say you are faced with this situation, and have other more important obligations and are unable to make the purchase. A typical mind will think "oh well" and go without, but an affected person will start trying to readjust their budget to make it work, they may borrow money or even forgo financial obligations altogether as the need to commit to the purchase or lose out on it entirely outweighs their otherwise rational budgeting and prioritization. Its actually part of gambling addictions as well, as "the next bet can be the win that offsets all my losses" even after going into debt. It is a very real and well documented psychological effect.
The worst part is that, again, it has very minimal impact on most people. For many its not about losing the ability to purchase something like an ingame cosmetic, and they may not even see that as financially reasonable as it is. The problem is that it so very specifically preys on those who are vulnerable to the tactic, who are treated as whales (individuals who spend more than the average consumer, to make up for a lack of sales elsewhere) in the process.
Its an absolute shame how much this kind of practice is not only accepted, but even defended in the industry. There can literally be people bypassing anything from holiday gifts for loved ones to financial responsibilities such as paying their bills just to sell a few more ugly sweater model meshes and textures.

Alcoholics have an addiction, they are going to buy their "drug" no matter what.
Coors offering a discount is aimed at those who usually wouldn't buy beer or they'd buy less of it.
That situation is almost completely opposite to what's happening here:
Time limited skins target more efficiently those with impulse control issues that are more subject to FOMO

That isn't how things work for people who have specific psychological tics that get attacked by FOMO tactics
average people can say don't care or don't need it so not buying it
People who it affects are willing to go into debt because they can't always go oh I don't care when these tactics are being used
It is why people have problems with battle pass systems in games most of them use Fomo for exclusive items and why people who fomo affects will either buy all the passes and no life or buy levels to max out the pass and in some cases they will buy accounts that have all the battle passes up to the current pass and some buy accounts with dlc that can not be accessible anymore like stranger things on dbd

There was that time they announced all new original character outfits would be sold for shards after 4 weeks. No exceptions. No "seasonal collections".
Then shortly afterward all new original outfits start being removed from the store just before reaching 4 weeks.

Personally, I have three issues with it:
1) Announcing that outfits can be bought for shards after four weeks.... but then making it so that outfits are either not in store for 4 weeks or being somehow except from that announcement. I chalk that up to the notoriously poor communication and expectation management BHVR demonstrates any chance they get. (Srsly, idk how they manage to do that. It's astonishing.)
2) Having it retroactively affect items in the store.
3) It being part of business tactics that I frown upon as they target a particularly vulenrable group of people; namely those that have trouble managing money. To those defending these practises: it's not just about some people just having poor impulse control and in a normal world that just so happens to be their problem with sales and limited timed stuff and what not. It's the part where the whole sales strategy is all about taking advantage of them, exploiting them and trying to squeeze as much money out of them as possible, all the while being fully aware of and rejoicing about the vulnerability of these people. In my opinion it's - ethically - not too far off from those people who call elderly people with dementia, telling them their grandchild is in trouble and they need to send x amount of money or else something bad happens - all the while that elderly person can't even remember they don't even have grandchildren.

They shouldn't be angry at bhvr for doing this. Without the exclusiveness the skins might not be lucrative enough and that would mean they just wouldn't make those skins at all
If bhvr can't pay the bills with skins anymore then they would have to increase the price of the base game/dlc
I'm 100% sure most people who are against the exclusive skins would be in massive uproar if that happened
Their anger should be directed at whatever social support their country has cause they should be giving classes to people who really suffer from poor money management

Idk if they can afford to open an entire other studio in Toronto, can purchase Seattle-based development studio Midwinter Entertainment, and are estimated to have made over 300 million CAD in revenue this year, they could probably not implement practices to extort the most vulnerable out of their money even if it means opening a slightly smaller new studio.
Just food for thought. I don't think they're struggling for cash.

Every single company wants to take your money, it's parent responsibility to control what they buy for their children.
These are still just SKINS we are talking about, literally something that does not influence gameplay at all, you are not required to buy them ever.
The fact that there are multiple threads about this now actually is so funny to me, people are so bored these days.

The issue isn't the cosmetics. It's the underhanded tactics of FOMO that prey on consumers' anxieties to brute force them into spending money. It's manipulative and it's predatory.

It's most likely people who want to complain about something all the time, they'll probably calm down after a while and find something else to complain about.

FOMO as a marketing tactic is morally questionable and specifically targeted at the vulnerable. Which, I should point out, does not just mean 'completely normal but with poor impulse control'; I mean that bad impulse control is part of a lot of mental illnesses (and, of course, can wind up in a lot of coping mechanisms for more!)
And if you think that it doesn't concern you when companies start doing things like this and it only matters to the people who're affected, then you're both being far more selfish than the people actually complaining, and really hope your mental health never takes any sort of downturn.
I really don't know how else to explain 'you should care about other people', though. It's not hard. This is a tactic that will hurt people. Maybe only a few people, who knows what DBD's player base is like. But it's going to hurt some people, and that's... fine to you, because it's a business tactic? ok.
