IMO GF could drop "marking" and still be the same capacity killer

perhaps i am alone in this, but i find marking survs to be pointless and a waste of time to your detriment. And it could be that im just not good at it, but GF is probably my second best killer after wraith and have used him quite a bit.

I find that its incredibly rare to be able to sneak up on a surv and do the full marking without them noticing to get it to go off. When it does happen its nice, but unless your going against noobies, survs know to be aware and look around especially after its revealed its a gf killer. On top of that, his stealth is partly countered by his loud cloaking noise meaning its probably unlikely you'll get a very close up marking before the survs sees or hears you and moves off. To mark you have to either be still or moving at 1 mph for a hefty while when In that time that you just lost and accomplished nothing you could have used NS to go pull them off the gen or get a hit in and be right in chase where they only have 1 hit down to go anyways.

NS(plus crouch ability) is IMO is a satisfactory power that allows you to use him to dangerous effect but marking does not seem to be useful enough to justify using and or is very risky to use as far as time goes.

I do not attempt to use marking at all(granted this makes all his addons pointless) and am able to play effectively and win my games.

Do any other GF players feel the same or do you feel that marking is worth the risk/time to do so?

Gotta be sneaky to pull off a mark, though 99ing someone can help

yea but as mentioned above, in the same time to do that you could sneak up on them and hit them and be in chase where they are a 1 hit down anyways.

ghostface needs more buffs. he will not get any though. The mark is pretty underwhelming even if you know how to use it.

If they reveal you while they're almost marked just chase them without hitting them and activate the power again and finish the marking. You can finish the marking even in mid chase before they can reveal you again.

Long as you know when its a good time to try and mark survivors (which factors in variables such as map, how aware survivors seem to be, how many escape routes they got) then marking can often be worth it. Not really as exciting or chaotic as random stealth stabs but it can be effective.

    1. Mark in about 20s, down instantly and hook.
    2. Run up and hit, start a chase that could last 60s or more, then potentially down, or you hit Dead Hard, or you give up because you're wasting too much time in chase.

Marking is definitely situational, but it's not useless. You have to learn to choose your moments.

If you think that and you play a lot of GF then I strongly recommend you check out Esskay (no 1 GF) on Twitch. He is in my region and playing against him is rough as you know by the time you realise he is there you are already 99'd and about to go down.

I think they could make marking a bit faster. Like if telephoto lens was basekit it'd be a lot better. I've seen how good GF players play, but those tactics REALLY don't work well on console. Tryin to pull off quick ducking in n out or lean marking mid-chase isn't very effective on the controller layout. It's just too clunky and awkward.

The trick is to '99' people - stalk them from concealment, then - when the time is right - pop shroud, mark them and down them instantly.

Like most stealth killers though, Ghosty is countered by voicechat. There's also a bug at present where certain survivor perks can aura read undetectable killers.

I have a rule on GF: I'm not M1ing them if I have their stalk meter at 70% or more. A huge part of GF is target priority and managing everyone's stalk meter. If you can get an ambush, great. But you definitely don't have to in order to take advantage of his instadown ability. Even if you just mark and chase, you have 60 seconds to land a hit. That is plenty of time. I highly recommend Bamboozle/Brutal on him. It's a huge mistake to load up on too much slowdown on M1 killers, because the slowdown doesn't help if you aren't getting downs with weak chase killers.

I'm a Ghostface main. When I first started playing him, I did hit and run, usually with sloppy butcher and nurse's calling for some good sneak attacks. I figured, why bother wasting time with exposed hits when I could just hit them and follow up with another quick down instead of saving them for later. However, GF has a big problem - he has VERY little chase power. Doing normal attacks, you're often going to get into a situation, at least in higher MMR, where people can just bounce back and forth on gens as you chase someone off. If you spend time chasing people, you're going to lose gens due to a lack of natural map presence.

Since then, I've focused on marking. It's been a gamechanger. I run the matchbook and camera offerings so I re-stealth sooner and mark faster. The trick is definitely getting people 99'd and then if you're not able to get close enough, move onto another survivor. Survivors play a lot more aggressively when they feel they have the protection of a 2nd health state.

I'd be happy to have you hop on a discord call sometime and watch some gameplay\tricks on how to play an effective GF with markings.

Note: You can also use markings to mindgame people. Here, I trick someone into coming to ME for their down. Disregard my Meg typo :p

Also, below is how you can use survivor movement to push them into an ambush.

So yes, you CAN ignore marking and just play him as an M1, but he is VERY susceptible to looping, and those longer chases will lose you gens, especially if another survivor hops back on a gen that you just chased someone away from.

Marking people is a struggle for me if I get a ######### map but I will throw games to get it
