is there a competitive scene at all?
i know "competitive dbd is a joke" is a long running sentiment but i've been looking for 3 days and can't find any sort of active comp scene at all besides streamer tournaments and the community cup

It's...not really a game that lends itself well to competitive play, due to the innate 'blind wager' nature of the game - where you can easily lose the game at the selection screen. Thus, most of the attempted tournaments have to use pretty contrived rules in terms of limiting addons, killer selection etc.
That said, BHVR do seem to be leaning into it slightly these days, so it'll be interesting to see what happens in 2023.

There's dbdleague which you can find on twitch but I'm not sure how that works exactly.

If you're MMR is high enough, just play at 11:00 AM - 16:00 PM in EU. Maybe at the same time in NA or other regions, idk.
It's even more sweatier than "comp" as they have no extra rules and can play with the most busted builds on both sides.

Trust me, nothing you play against is comp level.

DbDLeague is the most active org and probably the best. It's invitation-only for teams. Much higher level play than the community cups. There are other orgs like Champions Of The Fog that host tourneys as well. There is a scene, but you have to look pretty hard for it at times.

Not even remotely at the level of comp. Even if you run into comp players in a pub, there's a 99% chance they're just goofing around, not treating it like a scrim or actual game, or not even an active team and just have a clan tag. MMR is a circus.

Couldnt of said it better myself

With that English of yours I can easily confirm this.

I don't think comp can be interesting when survivors just pre throw and hold w. Killers just tunnel the first survivor hooked out of the game. The comp teams I have gone against play the same way, but with builds that would never be allowed. Not to mention they get salty at any killer contesting them whatsoever.

I don't know but it would be cringe as hell

Comp DbD is extremely exciting to watch. I wouldn't say it's mainstream, since comp play is pretty much never mainstream.
The comp scene is relatively active. Usually people host private tournaments in their discord servers, so you just have to look around for people that host regular tournaments in their discord.
In the circles I frequent, there's HiDro and OsuchinRiberu. There's probably a lot more, though.
