How do I change severs without using a vpn

Is it possible to change servers without using a VPN and it causing high ping? the server i’m on is dead and when i do finally get put into a game it’s almost always with the same people. I love dbd but having to wait forever for a game and keep getting the same people makes me not want to play a lot of the time. I play through steam so if there’s a way to change is through there please tell me

    Nope, you can’t choose a server yourself.

    do you have crossplay turned off? Cause that might lead to longer queue times.. otherwise I wasn’t aware some servers are pretty much empty? Or is it only at certain times?
