Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Should Trapper get a secondary ability?

Trapper is the face of DBD; the bread and butter; the strong machete man or whatever ya wanna call him. His simplicity is part of his charm, since his from the era when killers only had m1 and one basic power. With the game evolving, and lots of killers being designed around a main power + secondary power, makes me wonder if basic killers like Trapper and Myers will ever get something else added to their kit.

These killers mechanical skill cap is pretty low, since they all rely on m1 during their chases. Trapper skillcap is more about the strategic plans with your traps, which can be heavily denied by SWFs communication/coordenation, especially if he is not using his best addons. Traps spawning in corner doesn't help him either. The point is, if he can't get his traps going, he will struggle during the match.

Maybe add a secondary power to support him set up his traps. Imo some information power would be huge for him, something similar to Whispers or doctors Static Blast, so you at least are able to know if survivors are around when you're trying to setup your traps. Or something else, depending on the creativity of the devs ;)

Honestly, his traps should be invisible outside of 15 meters away, see-though/hard to see 5-15 meters away, and fully visible inside 5 meters.

This would achieve a few things:

    • Survivors sprinting around & not paying attention are more likely to step in them.
    • Survivors moving slowly and paying attention will avoid them.
    • SWFs can no longer look at traps from across the map and tell their hive mind that they exist.

And he should be able to 'toss' them maybe 5 meters away from himself while moving, so he's wasting less time bending over and putting them down. But they take a few seconds to arm, so he can't just yeet them ahead of a fleeing Survivor.

I'm not so sure, personally. Trapper's simplicity is part of his charm, yes, but it's also a strength in that newer players have a simple, reliable, easy to understand killer to start out with. Even Wraith and Hillbilly, and especially Nurse, aren't quite as simple and easy to intuit as the Trapper is, imo. Not to say they're complicated at all once you know how the game works, but rather that specifically when you're first approaching it, there's nuance to those killers that Trapper doesn't really have. Doesn't require knowing how this game works to understand "put down bear trap, survivor gets trapped, hit survivor".

I think just buffing him a little more would be best. Help him manage his considerable downtime a little more, have his traps spawn closer and maybe remove them from Map tracking.

Trapper is very strong if you go double iri addons and some slowdown perks so he can get his setup going. For example corrupt/deadlock/stbfl/no way out is a rly strong build and I usually 4k with trapper running this build and double red addons.

I think he scales decently well with his addons and is in a decent place. It's mainly the maps not having enough grass making him weak, not that his power is bad

I also think Wraith is easier to understand since he requires 0 map knowledge and you just run at the survivors and hit them.

I’m not sure about giving him another power. What I do know is he has several add ons which clearly should just be base-kit (starting with 3 traps being the obvious one) .

Give trapper the ability to lift up a dropped Pallet and throw it at Survivors.

Here is my Trapper rework idea:

    1) give him 3 traps. This one is easy and would help a lot to give him a bit more leeway.

    2) let all non picked up traps start primed and in good spots, ie in tall gras, around shack corner, under windows or at paletts. A guy like Trapper would spend some time preparing his chosen hunt for sure.

    3) Don't make disarming traps a free affair. There should be a skillcheck and at failing that the survivor should get injured one health state.

    4) This one is a bit esoteric, but could work: Trapper can now highlight any trap and press E to let the Entity teleport it into his hand. 60-90s CD. This will counter bad RNG a bit and allow trapper to still play with traps that are in the far corners of the map. I know that many like Trapper as a non-mystic and rather mundane killer, but this could be the thing he needs.

Trapper's problem is that he might not be the strongest, but it would be EXTREMELY easy to make him busted with slightest buffs.

Imo he does need some changes, but they're not really a priority. He's in fair spot right now, not op, but not utterly trash tier. Weaker killers should be looked at before him

Double iri Trapper is a 4k in 90% of the games

He doesn’t really need a secondary power he just needs his main one improved. He’s way, way too slow of a setup and too countered by just one survivor following him around disarming everything. He basically requires both Iri addons to get playable against decent swf groups, not even good, playable. He needs a lot. Start more traps on him, other traps start armed at good spots in loops, self resetting traps, injure in disarm, down on self escaping a trap you walk into while injured, silent trap setting, increase hit box of traps on survivors walking near them ect. As a fail for him getting things like this I do think he could have an increased range of placing traps near hooks to prevent him from hook trapping as easily as he can now.

Its a good build but wouldn't call that "very strong", hes just okay. And good luck having to use iri addons every game, you will have to dedicate bloodpoints only to trapper to achieve that.

Wraith is better for beginners. New survivors tend to be scared and hide a lot, wraith can easily surprise and get free hits.
