Can you play killer if you are too merciful?

Showing mercy towards one Survivor isn’t an issue, really. Especially if you kill everyone else and the last person is an innocent Dwight who only got one Gen done and has no cosmetics. Poor baby Dwights...3

If survivors are not toxic I always let one or two go.I mean its your game, you decide their fate as the killer. This concept it entirely up to you and its no one else's choice to make except you. Its of course not the killers objective... But we all sometimes do things outside that objective.

Letting Survivors escape as a Killer is a sign of emotional weakness. You play a merciless Killer, if you can't act like that you shouldn't play Killer!
jk, if you think a survivor deserves the escape then sure, let them escape.

Nothing wrong with that

I let go 3 now because of dc. -.-2
-
Hell yeah, you can.
I cannot think of a good reason otherwise.

The more merciful you are the less people you will kill so less likely to meet the entity's performance targets.
Its sort of like asking can I be a postman without delivering any post.

If someone is nice it's hard to kill them.1

Not t-bagging and clicking flashlight in my face for example. Those have special place in my basement, last night I hooked all 4 of them there. ^,..,^
That doesn't make them 'nice' just normal. Treat them like cattle to the slaughterhouse - don't assign them names or personalities. Hook them all.

Depends on their playstyle, if they are BMing and the convenience of letting them go. If I am at a 3K and the hatch is close to me, I'll let them go. But, if they are running DS or I am playing a garbage tier killer, they are getting the hook.

So everyone is toxic some just hide it?The game is about hooking and killing survivors regardless of their playstyle. If they play normal (not toxic) they still have to get hooked and sacrificed after all, that's your job.
No, of course not everyone is toxic but in a 3v1 situation no one would play toxic because they know how easily it can backfire. It's like meeting a group of strangers in a 4v1 they get balls of steel but if you see them alone they're all "yooo buddy" because they know they'd get rekt. That's what I'm saying
Imagine playing a "nice" Killer and the survivors would just throw themselves at the hook to give you the free kills for being nice :^) lol

Of course, I don't react to anything in game I just play how I always do and always let the last one go if I down them all too quickly.
I won't get triggered by some random player clicking a flashlight or tbagging, I down and hook them and move on to the next one, I don't consider it toxic, it's them trying to bait me into a chase, toxicity imo is reserved for what people say in the end game chat only.0 -
Don't worry, your nice attitude will change as more you play killer. Especially if you are at certain ranks and play constantly against sweaty swf groups. Lucky for you, you won't suffer that much anymore with the current DS, that perk probably destroyed all empathy towards survivors of everyone who played killer long enough0

Hahaha no0

Simple answer is yes. I hunt aggressively spreading the hooks all around, but when it comes down to two left on their death hook, I usually lose interest and just let them leave, especially when they surrender and recognize I could of killed them twice over. I always get deep into a Ruthless result at the very least. Now if they linger too long or think I want to farm, then they go on the hook for a Merciless result. I've even completely outclassed a group of survivors and let them all go since I hooked them each twice before I was sated. I mean there's a point where it feels like clubbing baby seals. Think I only got brutal status that time, but just a notch away from ruthless.
I don't expect survivors to be nice to me. I am trying to kill them after all and I expect them to do everything in their power to stop me. I want them to stop me.

@Eveline I don't respect the 4% because of how the perks changed that but if you are the last one left and you drop your item i will let you go or if you had a group of quitters i will let you go. I have given killers hooks as a survivor during events if they were struggling. It is just a game no leader boards or anything that really matters.

I only consider being merciful in two cases, one survivor DC, except DCing for giving the hatch of course or DCing in end game with only one generator left or the generators done, in other cases if one survivor DC I usually kill only one of the three left and hook the other two remaining while they can be saved from the hook, then I leave them make the remainins generator and even using pallets against me to take BP, of course if the survivor are toxic I have no mercy, they will die even if one, two or three DC. The other case in which I consider being mercifull is when the survivors are very very noobs and I can notice they are new in the game, I'm pity, cannot kill them, their fails are too cute for being killed. xD
I'm not merciful in any case against:- Toxic survivors (of course).
- Genrushers.

How do you define gen rushing?0

I mean, up to you, in my opinion, you are playing killer. Killers do not have empathy or sympathy. A killer kills for their lust or urge, or to please others, maybe you'd like to be a supporting survivor? But generally killer is meant for not allowing survivors to survive.

I personally see Genrushing this way:
Ruin still up, downing and hooking survivors left and right under 40 seconds and still after 3 minutes one gen is left. It's usually typical for sweaty swfs, solos can't pull out that organised and optimal Genrushing while saving mates etc.0 -

I think you can be a lax killer with lax survivors , and a demon killer to demon survivors. Merciful I mean I guess you can let the last get hatch if you want to? I’ve been a merciful survivor and let a few killers here and there kill me , Bc I felt bad and knew I pipped anyways. I’ve also ran around and not tried like an idiot for the sake of fun Bc it’s okay to not be so serious all the time. Whatever tickles your fancy at the time I guess0

I give freebies when I can afford it and when the person clearly isn't that good. If you run DS or show me you know how to loop or something I won't give you freebies because I'll lose if I do.

Yeah I normally let the last one go but sometimes my brother says to hatch camp so I do.

You can be a merciful killer, and still get a merciless victory. I've given hatch to survivors I think did really well and still come away with the iridescents. It is possible to show mercy, however I tend to show more mercy in my gameplay - leaving the hook, not tunneling etc

All 5 gens done in a 5 minute or less span of time in my case.
What do you propose, not to do gens?
No they don't have to waste time for not genrushing it's the dev work to find a solution.
Today the only real counter against genrushing without considering killers with very high map pressure, is Hex: Ruin.
Overcharge is trash, Thanatophobia is trash and sometimes the Totem is cleansed in the first minute.
There are some sweaty survivors that even repair while being injured without considering the risk for making the gens ASAP.
Some clearly biased survivor players say that genrush doesn't exist and is the killer doing bad. OK I would ask them how the hell I can patrol 7 gens with a regular 115% speed killer to avoid a genrush. If you have bad luck and the first two or three gens you check don't have any survivor working, the first gen will be done shortly or already done. Without ruins in the time you spend in the first chase and first hook (the survivor without DS) the first gen is done, even if you see a survivor 15 or 20 seconds after the trial starts, remember you have to hook the survivors twelve times (without considering moris or not being saved before the struggle).0 -
I do it all the time and if someone's worked hard all game I'll let them go and if they envr did an unhook and kobe, especially a basement kobe you're free if you're the last person. If the person kobe's in game I go look for someone else and if I see them again i'll chase them like normal unless last person.
When someone crashes during loading screen I try and go easy and farm some get a hook for bbq here and there.

It's your match as killer, you can play however you want.
Want to play as if you'll get banned if you don't 4K? Go for it.
Want to just farm from the start? That's cool.
Want to be a living meme and do basement protector Bubba or cloaked totem guardian Wraith? Whatever floats your boat.
Want to "throw" the entire game just to potentially spook the hell out of one survivor with the good old NOED nurse behind the gate trick? Good luck, hope they all come to "your" gate.Personally I really don't care about trying to prevent a hatch escape, which I guess is at least a little bit nice. At that point there's not much more bloodpoints to get, and I'm not gonna stand on the hatch for an eternity for the 2.5k no one escaped bonus when I can get to another match instead.

the problem is when they become entitled, and get angry and toxic when a killer doesn't constantly give freebies
