DbD Getting Age-Restricted & Demonetized On Youtube - Thoughts ?

IMO, Youtube's been screwing up since COPA and Youtube Kids came out. I'm equally curious and spooked to see what will happen if they continue to streamline their platform by pushing out any and all "violent games" content.

Thoughts ?

It sucks especially for content creators who made their name playing DBD. YouTube really have nothing to gain from this either so it’s a really confusing decision

That happened to one of my DBD videos a while back (Sep 2021) I appealed it and they reversed the restriction in my case. I'm kind of expecting to get hit with this new wave.

YouTube seems hell bent on censoring, age restricting and blocking themselves out of all relevance.

I would not want to be relying on YouTube for income unless you make the most brain dead Tiktok like content as ad revenue is limited due to reduced spending by companies so the share of that revenue is only going to get less and less.

Hopefully this pushes more and more people away from YT to sites like Rumble etc

Looks like they implemented an algorithm to police videos, it isnt working and they obviusly dont have enough humans to doublecheck the restrictions (as its probably on the tens of thousands per day).

I work on a megacorporation and the problem with these kind of things is a higherup thinks of PLAN™ that will either save a ton of money, earn a ton of money or both, the higherup sells it to an even highererup, gets aproved and then it goes to the workers and demands them to implement PLAN™, they go with it but PLAN™ doesnt work as intended because it has unexpected ramifications but who has the guts to go the higherup and tell bluntly "PLAN™ doesnt work, we have to scrap it"? Nobody, you would be telling your bosses the screwed up and wasted millions on a failure, doing so would hurt the messenger options of promoting, even if someone had the gut to do it the higherup would never admit PLAN™ was a failure because he himself wants to keep climbing the corporate ladder and the solution they think is always "Well make it work!!".

The only way to get rid of PLAN™ is wait for the person who devised it to either quit the company or promote to a different departament so the new person who comes in sees the burning disaster and either scraps the system or comes with "PLAN™ 2.0" to fix the problem which restarts the whole blunder (spoiler, its almost always the later).

Well this is going for a while, its just now they are coming for tamer mature games like dbd.

But if you want to know how bad the YouTube censorship is, a channel which was focused on gore games, forced to switch content in this year, he released a cooking video, and now he switched to building and area destroying games (it's fine as long as no human hurt on screen)

Why does Youtube even censor to begin with? If they fear that content isn´t suited for minors on youtube, then why do they have youtube kids?

it has nothing to do with kids like how they imply, it has everything to do with advertisers, they think if they tame the content they can bring in more advertisers

Most of violent games, now must be censored on YouTube if you want to earn money, like one of the games the blood replaced with flowers, and killing animation is blurred.

The excuse is that companies don't want ads on violent games. Mortal kombat, Yandere Simulator etc can get your whole channel demonetiseted if isn't censored, thats where we at.

Now even dbd considered to be extremely violent by YouTube standards

If i remember correctly, i´ve seen advertising of Callisto Protocol and GoW Ragnarok on Youtube.

Unless their plan is to only advertise hello kitty online, they are going to miss a lot of advertisement from the big game studios.

DbD isn´t particuarly violent. I mean, not more violent than any action game or first person shooter out there. Thats just going to hurt youtube in the long run, if they censor everything and only allow Minecraft violence.

I mean, sure Mortal Kombat getting censored makes some kind of sense. But DbD?

Yeah its surprising but thats how it is, dozens of dbd content creators received demonetisation warnings for dbd content, Mori has to be blurred now, but even survivor mains videos got hit by these new violence guidelines which taken effect recently on YouTube.

    People really getting sensitive nowadays

As the video above stated, those gen repair simulator videos are going to be hot content!

I run a moderately sized horror channel, I use DbD as background footage for some things, I cover *way gorier* stuff and never had any issues that weren't copyright related.

The recent panic around violent games seems to mostly be actually coming from videos with live chat in them, and that chat being very sweary within the first 15 seconds or 15 seconds after an ad break (an advertiser no-no). The Community Guidelines don't seem to have changed at all, with videos of violence within the context of gameplay being listed as fully monetizable.

    No idea what's happening here.

That was free advertising for the game... I don't know how this will impact the population growth, but I guess there is still twitch.

dunno if you know but it is a new policy they came up with that touches on game gore/violence among other things, its quite recent but i get you, it's a little dumb and i think it will hurt revenue rather than bring in more

AFAIK, the Callisto Protocol thing ended up being a bit of a fart, because it was the spicy chat that was getting it flagged, not the game content. But I could be thinking of something else - there have been a lot of click-baity 'YouTube is now flagging all x content' things recently.

There is a middle ground to find somewhere between the 1950 and 2023.

In my opinion, there is a handful of very vocal over-sensitive (and probably extremely narcissistic) people dragging everybody's fun down. Sooner or later an (over-)correction will happen.

I was 6 (early 80ies) when, watching a new anime, I saw a gun tearing a man's belly apart. The gun and the shooter being visible trough the cauterised gaping hole. I found that amazing. Today it could never happen. I consider myself lucky.
