Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Remove hatch

this post is a bit rant-y and i'm sorry about that, just wondering how many people would agree and are having issues with this. before i start i want it to be removed as a survivor player. as a killer i honestly don't care, it's only 2,5k deviousness points which i most of the time have maxed beforehand anyway.

i understand that it leads to cute killer survivor interactions or clutch escape moments, but some survivors are playing for this pity win mechanic from literally the beginning of the match, and an annoying amount of them do after they see things "go south". they should realize that in order to win they need to be useful to the team, doing gens and saving people instead of letting multiple survivors die on hooks. they need to play the game to win. not much to ask i think. i'm just so sick and tired of having a teammate have 1/3 of my points when i die because all they did was hide the whole match. in one match i saw that rat feng hiding in nowhere so i joined. the killer found her and killed her then i got hatch but it felt so pathetic. i had to waste my and the killer's time for literally no reason. ugh

at least it can be an option only after all gens are done, maybe?

Devs have said hatch only exists to ensure the game ends. Otherwise the survivor and killer could wind up engaged in a long a** game of hide and seek. It's why a lot of players don't consider hatch an escape, and escaping via hatch doesn't affect the survivors MMR either so the game doesn't even rank it as an escape too

Do you understand what would happen if hatch was removed?

Survivors that were determined to survive as long as possible or were just salty would just hide in a corner until the match automatically ended.

This would make a large portion of killer games an hour of searching corners.

It would never make it past the PTB, or pronably not even to the PTB

really, all it does is shuffle the situation over to the 2-surv step instead, if they're both healthy at the time.

If Hatch was removed, the Killer could (hopefully) open the damn door to force a timer.

At least currently there are two survivors, which doubles your chance of finding one. Both have a legitimate reason to hide, as they want the other tp die so they can escape. If hatch was removed toxic players would sit in a corner and hold the game hostage, or if the killer was able to open the door, they would get a free escape.

The hatch exists so that if survivors are getting stomped, there's still hope that someone can escape. It encourages losing survivors to play out the match. It doesn't do this perfectly, far from it, but if it didn't exist we would see -even more- DCing and suicides on hook the moment the killer starts doing well.

Also, regarding survivors going into the match with a 'find hatch' build and hiding all game, yes, it sucks, but the devs have said survivors can play selfishly. It's even on the steam page for the game, it's an option to either be a team player or only care about yourself. Now thankfully most people realise that helping your team -also- betters your own odds of survival, but if Claudette has an escape archive and brings a key and a hatch offering, she's allowed to do that.

Heck Sole Survivor and Left Behind exist for a reason.

i really don't think it is that hard to find a way to solve this issue. there have been suggestions for 2 man hide and seekers (which makes hatch completely irrelevant as a solution) like afk crows if no gen is getting a handful of progress, just the reply above, the ability to open door to force egc.

also people DO consider this *stuff* an escape. there is even a darn build for this and there are those eScAPe sTreAkErS

yes it is far from it. it makes it that the only hope is to hide which is super unhealthy. multiple survivors want to be that "someone" that gets to escape and the best hider wins, wooo. i really don't know about acknowledging and even incentivizing selfish play in a team game where the other side isn't a team.

    Nah.

Hatch used to be a problem, but now it's just an extra chance for the last survivor to get out.

Make it a race to the exit gates instead of a race to the hatch: Remove the hatch, give the killer basekit NOED on last survivor and make so only one gate can be opened at the same time.

The survivor still has a chance to escape, the killer more chances to get what he deserves for winning and making his ability to open the gates useful (as killers can already open the exit gates, just there is not a single reason for doing that) and also prevents the other big problem with the hatch: Survivors not even looking for it but waiting in front of a gate to open it the moment the killer close the hatch.

Unless the survivor brings Sole Survivor and Wake Up, there'd be very little chance for survivors to ever get the gate in this scenario. It's already very unlikely and when it does happen it's usually because a survivor camps a gate waiting for killer to close hatch. Without a hatch the killers just patrolling gates and thus a surv has almost no chance.

But still has a chance to escape, and it is the best way to stop people to hide and wait for the last escape: Making it not as advantageous as it is now the hatch. It will also help with the 3º survivor slugging as now killers won't have to fight against the RNG gods to get the 4k.

The killer wouldn't open the door because it would give too much chance to a survivor to escape. Any killers willing to open the doors in this scenario are probably the ones who would give hatch.

The hatch will never be removed. If the killer has had 3 kills they've been deemed to have won. That won't be buffed any further.

So survivors just need to hide as well as they can until the killer gives up, opens a door, and they get a free escape?

Just remove the win condition for a hatch escape. It's already MMR neutral, remove the BP bonus and any emblem contribution to boot so it's more obvious that it's not a real escape, its a commiseration prize.

Removing the hatch is not a problem, when last survivor stay on the match, the gates could open (a formula should prevent oppening the gate surv is camping on, like - if surv is closer than 40m from the gate, it opens but with 30s delay), killer gets free noed, and collapse started. But this will not remove the problem - 2 survs with 4 gens, hiding for entire match, waiting for one of them being killed.

The answer to the problem is redesign sacrifice system, so that survs have unlimitted hook stages before endgame, and dont die untill endgame with some cooldown between unhooks, but this would require much more balancing in terms of gen repair speed and much more other things (tho this would solve camping and tunneling problems).

The solution for now could be bonus to repair speed based on number of living survivors, repaired gens and time of the match. This would help to keep the pace of the match, remove situation of 2 survs hinding in a bush, remove oppresive gen regresion builds, and if working in both ways - remove oppresing gen rushing = the more gens repaired in short time with more survs in the game -> the more penalties to gen repair speed.
