Hostage Knight, Bannable or no?

In the past, players using hostage strategies on doctor has been deemed bannable. Wherein players constantly shock people in madness 3 while regressing gens rapidly, usually with ruin/skill check perks. Then sitting in a 3 gen and refuse to chase anyone, only downing people who refuse to move.

See:

Recently a similar strategy has popped up with the knight. Players will equip CoB/OC/Eruption and sit in a 3 gen constantly using guard hunts to force survivors off the gens and regressing them quickly with perks, only downing people who do not run away.

Here is a video of the strategy:

The goal of this strategy is to delay until the survivors give up and let you win or until the end of match 1 hour timer hits and the game instantly ends.

It seems clear to me based on what the developers have said about hostage doctor that this is indeed bannable, as it shares a lot of the same characteristics. Purely stalling the game using their power and perks, only downing people who refuse to leave the gens, and doing it for a very long time. However, some people disagree with this assessment.

So my question for the developers is:

I know this might go unanswered for a while because BHVR is likely off for the holiday, but I want to know. Can I be banned if I use this strategy? Should I bother reporting people who I play against who are doing this, or would I be wasting the support team's time?

Thanks

You won’t necessarily be banned for using the strategy, but you can be banned if you prolong the game long enough and someone reports you.

Its kinda funny since now if you delay the match the whole hour and the server closes. For the server to close it instantly sacrifices all the survivors and gives the killer the 4k. Ive seen that happen 3 times.

I think the difference is that technically the knight could down you with his power and doc can't. I mean would it be bannable if a huntress hold a three Gen and decides to only dmg you with her power and just sucks at it

I’ll admit I am quite new to DBD, about 7 months playing now. But I am really noticing a lot more games where a 3 Gen is happening recently.

I will do my best to get one of them done, but if it’s been a while and the killer is refusing to keep chase and just keeps going back to kick, I just give myself up for the hook.

Life is too short and I don’t need to escape that badly. GG Next.

Now that BHVR are no longer off for the holidays I would appreciate if we could get an official answer to this thread

Its only bannble if they are making no effort to down you and do it for a long time.

I recommend Survivors using Deja Vu.

I found the original comment from Peanit cause OP's image is:

BHVR need to fix their game rather than banning players. the fact that it’s possible for certain killers to do this and it’s possible for survivors to take the game hostage by hiding forever and refusing to work on gens is the result of poor killer/map/game design.

Well according to Peanits' post, it would seem the "3-gen til the server shuts down" strat would be bannable. But tbf he said that back in 2019 and things might have changed. The server shutting down after an hour is a recent change if I'm not mistaken.

Also I just wanna say I find DBD incredibly unfun when a match lasts 30+ minutes, and I know I'm not the only one. This strategy definitely needs to be addressed.

The problem is not the strategy itself, 3gens are as old as the game and only recently they have become a serious issue, the problem is the buffed regression perks, 10 extra seconds and instant 2,5% regression per gen which made this insane.

Before 6.1 the 3 strong regression perks were Ruin, PGTW and Pain Resonance. Ruin could be deactivated and PGTW and Pain Resonance both require a hook which in turn requires commiting to a chase so a Killer would have to actively chase to be able to maintain the 3 gen and that allowed the other Survivors to try to fix the generator, if the Killer didnt down the Survivor and broke chase to scare them away and kick the gen normal regression wouldnt be enough to hold the 3 gen for more than 2 or 3 failed chases thus giving real chances of succeding.

Now the good regression perks are Brine, Eruption and Overcharge and you dont need to hook anyone for them to activate, you kick a gen and it will regress faster than the Survivors can fix a few seconds and run before you come and kick it again (Brine even gives you info on par with Surveillance).

One of the reasons they changed old Ruin was because they deemed it too strong for a passive effect where you didnt have to interact with the Survivors to get a very strong perk, I dont see this new meta to be more active than old Ruin.

Exactly because they can't expect a Killer to chase a survivor into no man's land leaving the Gens open to be repaired but the Killer does have to make a effort to try and chase and down
