Does addon rarity matter?
Considering a considerable amount of killers their best addons don't always come from the top. Sometimes its yellow and green that take the top spot. Some cases like myers (tombstone piece) or blight (alchemist ring) take the reigns as better than the iris as purples. Then you have cases like pyramid head that you wonder why the iris are what they are in the first place (looking at you goblet) and whatever mess bubbas one iri is (bugged for about a year now) obviously though this isn't all killers and im sure they want the raritys to matter. Just theres a couple of killers which you kinda scratch your head at addon rarity. Sometimes even commons can beat a purple in value. Just a thought i guess. What do you think?

I agree. Some killers have absolutely trash “top tier” addons. Blight has a pretty good representation of addon tiers. His iri’s are extremely strong. Purples are still strong. Greens are decent - strong (AV if you know what you’re doing). Yellows are nice to have on, browns are browns.
I think all killers’ addons should have the same tier to strength pattern.

At some point, BHVR wanted to make rarer killer addons not just 'more betterer numbers'. Unfortunately, this has left a lot of Killers released or retouched since then with some really naff higher-rarity options because they've been overfilled with 'here's a weird way of getting a status' and the like.
I mean, look at the Knight's for an example. One iri gives out exposed if you plop a guard in the right spot... only every four guards... for less than ten seconds, but at least it's better than "you can't leave the exit gate if being hunted" being inexplicably paired with a vault blocker (when, if that wasn't an iri addon, it would probably be more reasonable). All his green ones are status effects with better or worse ways to apply them, so definitely worse than the yellow and brown improving the base numbers to be a bit more workable. And then the purple ones have three niche effects each paired with one of the cycling guards, and another status affliction method.
Sometimes, this actually works--Pinhead's addon tiers do have good secondary effects for the iri and purples (engineer's fang in particular is still fun, even after the nerf; shame the faster chain hunt ones were hit so hard).

I don't mind them making the higher rarity addons have interesting effects rather than just raw power. Imo green and yellow rarity should contain the most generally useful addons.

I mean, I do, because it fundamentally means that if you like the gimmick or the gimmick's playstyle, it's not something you can reliably use due to the rarity factor.

Also i mean they do this design on commons to. Plague has a addon that doubles infection time on objects and infection rate but you can't directly infect. So you can easily have a up to 110 second infection time with the yellow. Wraith has serpent soot and the addon that makes him undetectable after uncloaking and omni bell. So i don't see why transformative should be locked to higher rarity. So i agree with your sentiment.
Like said above theres transformative addons in lower rarity that are effective.

See, that brown plague addon is meant to be her nerf gimmick for BP addon, which is why it's brown. It also happens to come with two buffs that actually make it an entire potential playstyle, thing is weird.

Another point: there's no such thing as an "ultra rare" add on. Killers can run them every single game if they main a killer.

I'm pretty sure, from experience, you can't, unless once you get the Killer to high prestige you can manage to pull one every 40,000 BP or so (or a black ward), which is pretty unlikely when they're 8k each.

I’ve got 500 iri tags and about 500 c33’s for blight..

If they go the other way then you can't reliably play a killer using good addons. Either way somebody will be unhappy.

I still love how iris are supposed to be an addon tier that "changes the playstyle" for a lot of killers but for the last couple of years they havent been following that very well ever since blight.

Yeah, how long have you been playing, and how much was before they reworked prestige? I came in about 3-4 months before the whole prestige rework and I get 2-4 iri addons of a given type per prestige level these days. You can't just sit at a level 50 bloodweb and farm it over and over for good addons anymore. You have to go through about 30-40 garbage webs before you get to ones that reliably provide purple and iri addons.

Majority of it was gained after the update. I have been cranking through blight’s prestige’s. I’ve been playing a long time, and have a ton of hours on blight, but I got most of my stuff for him post update. Around 500 of each iri, 500 or so rings, 1200+ crows and 1200+ adrenaline vile. I also run crow and vile almost every single game. I’m still not at P100 yet, I just prioritized those specific addons when they came up.

You must be incredibly lucky or I have the worst luck out there then. I run Plague and dearly love to play with the iri seal. It is the number one priority with my bloodwebs. I get about 3 games with it per prestige level, and the rest have to be done with other builds.

Logically, which is better: your "alternative playstyle" is hard to use every game, or your big power boost?
0 -
Really? I feel like I get a ton of iris per prestige. I will keep track tonight of how many iris I get over how many levels and report back.

Well, I did one character from level 30ish to 50 and I got maybe... two? At most. Admittedly, I was levelling Pinhead (still salty about having prestiged before the rework and lost all those perk unlocks) not Wesker or Knight (where I have gotten all the perks I have unlocked), so that'd not help. Still, 800k BP invested, nowhere near enough to run one per game, even with a handful of black wards too.
Like five ebony moris, though.
IIRC, prestige does increase the chance of iris at lower bloodweb levels, too.

Rarity correlates less with strength than it does with uniqueness in most PvP games. DBD is among those games. There's always exceptions here and there obviously but that's generally how it goes.

From lvl 43 - 50(complete) I got 4 C33’s and 1 iri tag. Prestige 83.
0 -
The actually useful addons should be the easy ones to get.
0 -
Yeah see that's the thing, that 40-50 range is about the only place you'll reliably see them. You might pick up 1-2 more for each in all the levels from 1-40, but you aren't about to do a full 50 lvl prestige on 3-6 games.
0 -
That’s just where I had started counting them. I will do a full count tomorrow 1-50.

It is, but it's pretty effective and fun. I gave it a shot for one of her dailies to hit survivors when fully infected, and it was a breeze. I like running it so much I main that playstyle on Plague now.

Devs think that new iri addons cant exist unless they include an insta down or aura revealing.
0 -
one of the knight's iris has neither, I'm not sure you could be more comically wrong.
0 -
Many killers do not have iris that do that.
0 -
Thats why I said new iri addons because a lot of the newer ones do have those aspects in them.
0 -
The knight still has an addon that inflicts exposed?
0 -
But the other one doesn't. So they obviously think iris don't need exposed or aura reading.
0 -
every one of the last new killers has iri addons that do neither of what you said?
0 -
Almost every new killer released within the past 1-3 years has at least 1 exposed or aura revealing iri addon. My point still stands.
0 -
But they do? They have at least one that do either which of what I said. What are you smoking?
