Solo Q gets a buff. What’s next for killers?

I don’t know if im reading too much into this, but now that Solo Q got a buff to be more up to par with SWF, does this mean BHVR has plans to buff killers in general in some way? Or they can now work on certain killers that need help (trapper, pig, clown, etc)

What do y’all think?

They're probably just monitoring kill rates right now and will adjust as needed. It's too soon to see which, and if Killer(s) will need a buff.

I'd imagine they're waiting to see if the survival numbers will change and by how much. I like the change but it isn't a huge thing. Just lets solo q be a little more efficient and I dpubt it will affect the numbers too much. And it certainly doesn't warrant buffing killers.

I won't argue the number but i'll argue the method. If those numbers represent mostly tunneling and camping then that's really unhealthy for the game. IF we were on 63% without resorting to tunneling and camping then maybe i'd agree with it being a bit high.

They will never do that. They don't have the developer bandwidth for it.

Killers get headaches, as usual. BHVR is far too busy catering to the bs of survivors.

You can only help those Killers by buffing them directly. You will not make Trapper strong with a general Killer-Buff, because general Killer-Buffs have to be minor.

But honestly, 6.1.0 was very impactful and made playing Killer a lot easier (even easier than Killer pre-CoH).

    @Topic:

I guess that if the Devs think that it is needed, they will buff Killer. But I dont see much impact by the symbols, because the strength of SWF was always that you can filter out the bad players. But this does still not happen in SoloQ. Yes, there is more information, but as long as SoloQ is RNG and you might get good teammates or bad teammates, those information do not change much. Even if I know that Killer Mains really want to pretend that Killer is getting hard now.

They said they'll be monitoring kill rates. They want them at around 60% so if that changes with the new icons then they'll take action. Mandy said they don't believe at this stage that it will affect kill rates so I dont think they have any plans to buff killer at this point

The lack of updates from the devs on how Killers might be buffed apart from a “We’ll wait and see” is the real letdown as it gives off the feeling that they themselves don’t believe that the Survivor HUD will affect kill rates that much. With no clear timeline, it may take up to a year before any meaningful Killer buffs are being made.

Even if waiting for stats was an issue, announcing that they would start looking at weaker Killers like Trapper or Pig after this patch would make Killer players much more accepting of the Survivor HUD.

Currently the trend of updates seem to be Perk Overhaul + Killer buffs> Basekit Unbreakable being tested on PTB> Clicky flashlights changed> Locker flashlight save nerf+ Easier to get flashlight saves> Survivor HUD + Nurse nerf

At a glance, there’s not much going for Killers since the buff patch. Given that BHVR is a company and survivors definitely make up a larger portion of the playerbase, can you blame Killer mains for having suspicions that BHVR are still catering to Survivors since it’s the better option from a business perspective?

What do you even mean by "deal with"?

If you argue with people in the post game chat, that's completely on you. There's literally nothing to deal with. Just press CONTINUE. That's it.

I dont understand why people act like old Slowdown Pop/Ruin/Undying nuked cause the end to Gen slowdown then CoB/Eruption/Overcharge exist.

I swear if they bring back Pop/Ruin/Undying combo, killers would still use CoB/Eruption/Overcharge knowing the 2nd combo are more powerful.

On survivor side, its litterally no perk can ever complete to 2nd chance. And 2nd chance perks idea is really limited to create new one.

I mean they nuked Ruin and nerfed Pop and Corrupt quite a bit but there's still plenty of strong slowdown perks for killer to choose from.

CoB/Overcharge/Eruption and even individual perks like Pain Res, Deadlock and Jolt are strong.

Also Pop and Corrupt are still serviceable perks on certain killers too, only Ruin was nerfed into uselessness.

BHVR will probably just take the bandaid route and buff a whole bunch of perks to make them borderline, if not insanely, oppressive against average Survivors.

Not hate towards them, but their balance decisions are questionable at worst and often never solve the core of the issues.

One thing I've never understood is why there's only two base speeds for killers when moving regularly for the most part, 110% or 115% of surv movement speed. This leads to good survs memorizing distances and timings before bloodlust kicks in for instance.

I know a few add-ons can alter their speed, but I wonder if more variety could shake things up.

Little things like Trapper or my beloved Piggy being slightly faster when only carrying one or no traps, or Huntress and Trickster and Clown a bit slower when fully loaded but ramp up some as they toss away. Nemmy gaining a tiny bonus when hunting along side his zom zoms.

    Maybe worth testing?

Well yeah, but those changes barely fixed anything. Increased gens and faster speeds are pretty meaningless to the actual problems.

All it did was shift the meta to a different group of gen slow down perks.

What are you talking about? Pop/Ruin/Undying were the only slowdown perks.

Killer doesn't need anything. Wasn't the escape rate was 38% with SWFs included? The solo escape rate was probably 25-30% max. People who think buffing this group means killer needs buff are being completely unreasonable. I'm convinced some people just play this game for some weird power fantasy and don't actually want the other side to have a chance.

I am also curious as to how they plan on buffing killer. Will they finally make all killers at least A tier?

Eruption/Pain Res/CoB all existed before the nerf to Pop and Ruin.

Im not trying to sound like a bias survivor main but "at least A tier"??? There no game where every single character is viable at top level. It should be a good spread of killers in each tier like it is now. Eruption turn even the most weakest killers into half way decent characters like knight and sadako. Sadako condemn build only works cause of COB & eruption giving her the time she need to build stacks. Knight only redeeming quality is pushing people off gens easily which is decent only when pair with COB & ERUPTION. Even wraith looking like a credible threat cause of these perks. Eruption should stay cause this is the most viable you ever going to see the killers roster.

While I have no opinion on this post. Do you really believe anything will happen fast after they said they would be monitoring and changing the meta frequently? All of the sudden it's been over 7 months and nothing has changed except a than gutting. That's not fast, that's slower than anything but incompetency.

As i said, the Killer slowdown meta was nuked.

Not a single slowdown perk that was meta before 6.1. is still meta.

In comparison. The survivor meta has barely changed.

While gens take 10 seconds longer, the current slowdown meta is no where as strong as the previous one. On top of that, survivors received gen repair perks and gen times really don´t vary that much from before the change.

I´ll happily wait for the new kill rates. Where the devs have to adjust things again, because kill rates plummered.

Hell, my solo queue last evening was 4 minutes before i found a match and another 3 minutes with killers dodging.

  • Tsulan
    Tsulan Member Posts: 15,095

None of the meta slowdown perks is still meta. I can´t remember when i´ve seen the last killer with Pop, Ruin or Corrupt.

    Slowdown meta changed completely.

  • Tsulan
    Tsulan Member Posts: 15,095

That is the definition of changing the meta.

There will always be a meta. Always perks that establish as the most picked ones. But the pre 6.1. slowdown meta is completely different then what we have now.

    Meanwhile the survivor meta...
