Poor Yui, chosen for part of that imbecilic skin decision.

That is not true at all. There are lots of amazing black video game characters. Lucio from Overwatch is one of my top most played characters in that game. Barret from Final Fantasy 7 is just simply legendary to name a couple.

In my case: she is my main bcuz she looks (and sound) like a cute anime girl, specially with cosmetics, and I like that character trope. She is the only character who fit into that trope. In fact, she is the only character in which I have spent real money for buying a cosmetic, her long blue hair.

I use another female characters aswell, Yui Kimura and Ada Wong, but around 70% of my survivor games are playing as Feng. And the only male character I play sometimes is the new Vittorio, BHVR finally released a male character who doesn't look like a jerk without considering the RE licensed ones whick I don't have.

For me im talking about games that i play were you are able to buy skins for them. For instance fortnite used to be not as diverse when it came to its characters. The black characters all had the same face model and stereotypical hairstyles while the white characters had variety. Thats what im talking about games dont have variety when it come to black people. Now fortnite is very diverse and actually trying with their skins. Another example is cod. In cold war they had 2 black women characters one was masculine and the other had some feminine qualities along with masculine. But the white women characters had so many options when it came to their looks. I feel like people are lying when they say that in games white characters dont get more representation than black characters because they do. Even in games like the sims they didnt have much diversity until white games came together and EA finally listened and put out more diversity not only for black simmer but asian ones too. So back to my point is that Feng can get cosmetics but so can others it just seems like laziness when it comes to black cosmetics. And it really seems like in this toxic community no one cares about how black gamers feel at all and it really shows. And your right there are black characters that i look up to but buying outfits arent apart of those games. I love Marlene and Riley from that last of us. And lee and clementine from the walking dead but once again outfits dont matter for those games. But they do play a part in dead by daylight. The outfits they give to Elodie is the most weirdest outfits ive seen they dont even make since for her characters in my opinion. All im saying is that everyone should be able to get some outfits not just Feng. But i guess in this ignorant community thats not reasonable

The community isn't being ignorant about this. You don't seem to understand how the market works in gaming. When you say things like "everyone should be able to get some outfits not just Feng" you're saying that as if there is only good to come out of that and no loss. People have to make these outfits. They have to be paid for it. It takes time and DBD exists to make profit, not to cater to every demand of every player who plays the game. Feng obviously generates good profit, which supports the game's continuation and innovation going into the future. If they spent the rest of this year focusing on making outfits for characters and characters themselves that the consumers just aren't going to respond to that well then the game is going to suffer financial loss, and those servers don't pay for themselves.

I understand you like Elodie. That's fine. But unless there are a LOT (and by a lot I mean thousands) more people like you who play the game and are willing to spend money on a character like Elodie then coming here and complaining about Feng being an attention hog isn't exactly going to change anything. I'm pretty sure Elodie was better received by the community than Haddie was but I don't think she is anywhere near up there in popularity as characters like Feng. She'll likely get something new here and there, but purely from a financial perspective it wouldn't make sense to put as much or even half as much focus on characters that simply do not produce as much of a return as others. You have to look at this from a marketing perspective rather than a personal one to understand why things happen the way they do. You can certainly voice your opinion but ultimately it comes down to numbers in the data. If one day the player base shifts more towards characters like Elodie then you'll likely see more stuff available for her.

I don't find it problematic. My issue is with the way people treat Haddie because they think she's ugly or because they don't gravitate towards her. I don't like Haddie that much either but bashing her simply for being the way she is is unnecessary. Also what the is a 'pretty race'?

People need to stop acting like cosmetics are the only thing people care about when playing a survivor cuz it's completely wrong. People are maining a survivor because of their perks. What kind of beginner friendly perks does Elodie have in comparison to Feng. None in comparison to Alert and Lithe. Appraisal is underwhelming, while Deception and Power Struggle only work in some niche builds. Alert and Lithe work just fine by themselves and need no perk synergy. Do I think Elodie could get some more cosmetics? Yes but come on. We should not act like cosmetics would be a gamechanger.

Claudette is one of the original characters thats been there from the beginning so she has that going for her. As far as female characters go, exaggerated beauty tends to be a very marketable aspect of them. Some games however that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. In Overwatch I main Moira in the support role. I don't think this character is beautiful or attractive at all, but she is fun as hell to play. In a game like DBD though, survivors come with unique perks but they eventually just become skins as you unlock more perks. The main thing the survivors in DBD really have going for them in my opinion is their looks and cosmetics.

I feel that my main point here is diversity which alot of people seem to not like. I get it feng sells. But so does diversity sense you think you know so much about business and marketing go look at what happens when people become more diverse. I didnt complain about feng getting attention. I said she isnt the only person who should get cosmetics. Thats it thats all. I would really appreciate it if you try to be open minded but i guess what did i expect from this toxic community like dbd. Yall fengs seem to be really triggered by nothing 🤣🖕🏽

The fengs i see arent using her for her perks. Its purely cosmetics wise. Which theres nothing wrong with but that goes back to my point people would use other characters if they had better cosmetics

-"Feng Min gets way too many cosmetics. I get it shes a fan favorite but"

If people want to buy more clothes for the most popular character- the company would be smart to make more clothes for Feng.

The only person really being toxic here is you, noted by the middle finger emoji you placed at the end of your post.

Diversity is well and good, but when you're trying to make money you can get all the praise in the world for being diverse but praise doesn't equal profit all the time. They can try new ideas but if those ideas aren't received well by the community then it doesn't make sense for them to keep spending time and resources on things that just don't sell as well as other things they've done.

And now you're playing the racist card. No one is being racist here because they aren't agreeing with you. No one is being racist because they don't like Haddie or don't think Elodie should get more cosmetics. No one is being racist for pointing out Feng's popularity compared to other survivors. The only thing I have done is try to explain to you how marketing in gaming works and how it doesn't make sense to focus on ideas that didn't generate a worthwhile return for the time and money put into it. That isn't racism. That's pure common sense.

No! They wouldn't! Some characters just aren't received well by the players. More cosmetics won't fix that. If it did, you'd probably see the least played survivors getting new outfits all the time. The only thing they can do when a new character isn't a big success is take the feedback, move on and do better next time.

I really think you need to read my comments because you're making up things I said. I never said you had to be a paranormal hunter to play her, I never said there was anything wrong with playing a character that resembles you and you're extremely hostile and rude for no reason. I said there was less reason for people to play Elodie for representation because her lore isn't relatable and there's already a black female character who is relatable for most people to main who is free which is why she is also played less in the same way Feng who is more relatable to most people and free, is played more than Yui who is not relatable to most people and purchase only despite them both being Asian. You asked "Why do you play Feng." So I answered and that apparently made you very angry. I will say this again, the main reason most people pick survivors to main is because they either relate to them, or like their appearance. If they don't fit either of those boxes, most people wont go out of their way to pay for and main a survivor. Elodie, is a purchase only character and not the only black female character. A lot of people go to Claudette as their main when it comes to representation as she is free, and has lore that the average person can relate too. Elodie is purchase only, doesn't have lore most people would relate too, and isn't the only black female.

Again, a good comparison is Feng vs Yui or Yun-Jin. Feng is free on every platform but pc, she has extremely relatable lore to the average person being that she's a gamer/nerd with overbearing parents who likes to cosplay. Yui, is purchase only with extremely unrelatable lore being a Japanese motorcyclist street racer who started a gang. Yui, is not as relatable, purchase only, and overall just not appealing to the general playerbase in the same way Feng Min or Claudette is.

I don't really wanna touch too much on the "Feng has too many cosmetics," because I feel like it's a constant conversation. I really like Feng and her outfits, so I can't complain. I main Jane for survivor, and she has very limited cosmetics and a lot are kinda meh..so I understand.

I actually really like Elodie, and I agree...when I want to play her, I struggle with her outfits..I don't really care for any of them. I can mix some up to make her tolerable, but they're still not amazing. I do love her pj's..but I don't want to wear them year round. In total agreement..Elodie needs some cosmetic love!!! And I was excited about Haddie, and bought her right away..but I just can't play her, and it really is because I hate her cosmetics. They're so gross. Elodie and Haddie cosmetics, much needed!

So is Nea and she's played like crazy...because...she has a lot of cosmetics.

Pretty sure that's a matter of taste/opinion. Feng is attractive, but you can't say all people find Asian women attractive.

    KateMain86 Member Posts: 2,374

Nea's appearance reflects a common personality so she easily appeals to a lot of people. She's also been in the game since almost the very beginning. Haddie just looks like a random NPC you pass by in a single player game and forget they exists 5 seconds later.

I was talking about the original reason, why they are maining this survivor. Of course over time people will play with different perks than the original survivor has. But the main reason why they were playing the survivor in the first place is most likely because of their perks. You just stick to a survivor and THEN maybe buy some cosmetics. I started maining Adam because I liked his perks and even though I'm not playing him with his perks anymore the reason why I play him has nothing to do with cosmetics. I just sticked to keep playing him.

We were talking about Feng. I don't think most female characters are attractive (just Kate, Ada and Feng).

A little reminder to keep the discussion civil and respectful, it doesn't matter if you are talking about fictional characters, there is no need to shame others for their opinions.

I don't think anyone here did that unless I missed something. I've made it clear anyone can play any character they want. Its perfectly fine to love any character in this game. What I did was simply explain possible/likely reasons why certain characters aren't as popular as others.

Maybe people somehow relate to her because she is a gamer ,like how many gay people specially after he got confirmed as gay did with David but whatever the reason is ,companies work like that and focus their resources on the product that sells more

I don't think that is always the case with this game in my opinion. With the game being online for several years now and the data they've gathered from it I don't understand how or why they thought a character like Haddie would be a good idea. For whatever reason they went with it and now see that she was not that well received or at least not from what I have seen. She was paired with one of the best designed killers in the game so I have no doubt that her chapter sold well. As far as the character itself, I think she is mostly ignored and forgotten by the players. As I've said in other replies, I have not seen Haddie in a match since her chapter released and that was only a couple of times and when she had some cosmetics to unlock in a unique event. My only guess as to why Haddie is in the game is because of representation and diversity reasons which is something they've made clear is to be a focus point in the game going forward. I personally think its a worthless and fruitless pursuit, but all I can do is give my opinion about it. Its up to them to look at the market, their target audience, their potential audience and feedback from their customers to determine what is best for the future of this game. When you're trying to sell something, you should always go where the money is. I guess we'll see what the next chapter has to offer and how well it reflects what they've learned with all the data they have on what players responded to well and what they didn't. Will DBD ever have another character as popular as Feng Min? I guess time will tell.
