New Perk Background Player

So as it reads "You are not usually the centre of attention and in some cases, this can be a good thing. After unhooking another Survivor, break into a sprint at 150 % of your normal Running Movement speed for 6 seconds."

I feel like the idea with this perk was to encourage clutch saves and the perk would give both players good distance away from the killer in the situation. (that endgame hook situation, where you got a whole team swooping in to save one survivor for example). But in any other point of the game, a killer can gain more distance on the unhooked player despite endurance.

Am I missing something maybe?

It seems like a very selfish perk, though I can understand it's use. With BT being base-kit, it does make it difficult for the killer to go after either one of the survivors. However, I see this perk + Guardian being a good combo for both survivors to make it away from unsafe hook saves.

I might actually use it in an unhook build though. Background Player, Borrowed Time, Desperate Measures, and Guardian sound like a cool combination.

Maybe it does just need the right combo of perks to support it, I just feel like its kind of harsh to the other survivor if its gonna be a long game. I remember people getting kind of upset to be bp farmed off hook, I get a feeling we will see more of that again.

Horrible idea for a perk. It along with Blood Rush are huge incentives for tunneling. I can only pray that it doesn't catch on and people won't use it - which is likely, because as an exhaustion perk, it's pretty unreliable and un-useful.

But seriously, it's just 'throw your teammate under the bus: the perk.' It's not even great against facecamping because the killer will assuredly get a smack on you anyways while locked in the animation. Whoever thought this was a good idea should feel ashamed.

I absolutely hate the design of this perk. Did they not learn anything from old BT?

I already hate when survivors unhook then hide. This is a same scenario but it's incentivized by a perk now.

Let’s be honest: Killers don’t need incentives to tunnel. They’ll do that regardless. Yes, this perk might well be throwing a teammate under the bus on its own but if it is used with other perks that help with hook saves (meaning survivors make a full build around it), it might be okay. I guess if they have to build around it they can’t deal with Gen slowdown, slugging, or tunneling but at least they can sorta help with camping.

I mean, just because some killers will tunnel doesn't mean we should create perks that incentivize the unhooker to take off and leave the killer no choice in the matter. And yeah, it could be decent with Guardian and BT, but realistically, who's going to run a build like that? You're using most of your perk slots, Exhaustion included, for a situation you may or may not face in any given game. And it's not going to help against oneshot campers, so this won't even work against the most common camper of all.

The way I see it, it's like how original WGLF encouraged hook farming, or original Dying Light encouraged tunneling the obsession out of the game. Those problems already existed and still do, but the perks made them much worse. You don't want to make perks that encourage people to play in a way that is not fun. In this case, I think the only saving grace is that this perk isn't very helpful and I don't expect it to take off.

I mean, the only use it can have is if you go for a save against a hardcore camp. But you still need someone else to bodyblock for a duo save for it to work, or you'll just go down before being able to sprint assuming you dodge the grab to begin with (you won't have much room for unhook perks, see below). And they have to understand that you are the one who has to unhook. And you would need an entire build dedicated to it as well so you give something extra to the rescued, like BT and Guardian, or the killer will just ignore you considering you can outrun all the other survivors. That's a lot of conditions to find any meaningful use.

And if the killer is not camping, but comes back to the hook, again you either try to take aggro and now are exhausted and self-screwed, or you ditch your teammate to get tunneled.

It's not a good perk at all.

It is pretty questionable. A hook farmer's delight.

Yeah "lets make a perk where the killer trying to be nice going after a dude for farming gets to lose massive distance. Shoulda went after the unhooked i guess" Lol

I was thinking the same as you but I was thinking more Guardian and No One Left Behind to get away from camping Killers in the endgame. Still very niche and memey but I do run memey builds for fun so there's a bit of use for the perk.
