Almost everything from the Skull Merchant is disappointing
So, many were expecting a robot or cyborg. I imagined it was probably some engineer of sorts, since you can see there's someone working on the machines in the teaser. However, since it emphatized technology so much, I expected more of it on the killer's look and general theme. Would it be a half-mechanical abomination? Would it be a murderer carrying multiple mechanical devices? What was it going to be?
An ordinary woman with a bedazzled gas mask and a Predator claw. All the rest are pretty normal clothes. To make things worse, her atractiveness is far more emphatized than her "scary" aspect. She even walks by swaying her hips.
A cool mori, maybe? Nah, it's just Freddy's mori with a drone. At least Freddy has a reason for the victim not to know if he is there all of a sudden.
What about her power? She has really limited ways of becoming undetectable and exposing survivors, like a Ghostface with extra steps, plus some aura reading, but there are already many perks and add-ons that show auras to us, so not that impressive. The ONLY somewhat interesting thing about her are the add-ons.
Even her lore isn't very good. Being brazilian, I was excited to know we had a brazilian killer... but darn, another disappointment. A "self-made millionaire" (already not relatable, but let's see her villain story) who made fortune with no explanation better than "she had a manga website and studied about investment". She was deemed to be incredibly smart since she was a child, and, after becoming an adult, she started killing businessmen who stood in her way... by using a drone and a mechanical arm, for some reason, when a gun or knife would have done it just fine and actually have been more discreet. And no, she doesn't collect skulls. The only explanation given for her mask, claws and skulls was "she got inspiration from her father's manga", but it is that vague, never described beyond that. Even funnier, her father's manga was also inspired by visions of her on the Entity's realm. Her relation to technology is never explained either, barely mentioned. We only know she is smart, but she is never said to have studied engineering, only economics.
Both her power and lore emphatize her ability to lurk stealthily and strike from the shadows, but you see, her outfit doesn't look made for stealth, not in the slightest. She dresses in white and wears a shiny mask. And she is supposed to be a genius apex predator.
So, if DbD players from Chile were disappointed that the Artist's lore wasn't the best, specially with the whole "crows in Chile" thing, well, the brazilian killer's lore is so bad it makes the Artist's lore look great.
TL;DR: the new killer's appearance, power, concept and lore are all extremely disappointing. The only somewhat interesting thing about her are the add-ons.

I like the killer, it seems to bring all the casual misogynists out of their hiding.

True everyone's complain that she wears normal clothes like legion and ghostface aren't just regular people with hoodies, cheap Halloween costumes, plastic masks and knifes

I complained about the Legion too back when it was released, actually. To be honest, I find her the most disappointing release since Legion, whose teaser showed a hood right after the 2018 Hallowed Blight which presented a hooded alchemist (who later would become playable as the Blight), and ended up being a gang of teenagers that looked more like ordinary muggers with hoodies and knives (and their power was boring and broken at the same time, too). Ghostface , unlike Legion and Skull Merchant, doesn't wear normal, ordinary clothes, doesn't show a third of his face and his visuals actually match the concept of his power.
And it's quite dishonest to say "like legion and ghostface aren't just regular people" as if nobody complained about them, when Legion, Trickster, Twins and Wesker all had controversal releases due to their looks not being scary enough in the opinion of part of the community.

What the ######### are you on about
A female cyborg would have been awesome
Her design is bad. The designs in meet your maker ( MADE BY BHVR ) are more what I expected.

Yeah nevermind the well explained paragraphs in the OP detailing their issues with the killer, it has to be they hate women.

They’re talking about in general. They never specified the OP.

I'm usually positive about most things, but in this case I don't think you can chalk up the hate for this chapter/killer to neckbearded misogyny. At least not fully.
I am all about female killers and love how diverse DBD is (and actually love the salt from haters), but everything aside from the killer's appearance is totally phoned in. It'll actually give the misogynists more fuel, since it's legit not good.
I would say this chapter is dog water, but it's weaker than that, it's diet dog water.

Oh, and the mori...not the biggest thing, but as lazy and sterile as you can get. Imitation Freddy, short, boring, incorporating nothing unique about her or her power, no thematic flourish.
Absolutely phoned in, totally emblematic of the rest of the chapter we've seen so far.

Average Twitter user..
It’s a very underwhelming chapter and she’s a very underwhelming killer. The whole thing is just left over Predator chapter with sexy lady thrown in because couldn’t get license. First chapter I can’t bring myself to buy.

I can't get over how dumb her name is...Just call her The Mechanist for God's sake.
This is more stupid than "Deathslinger" instead of Gunslinger, and I never thought I'd hate a killer name more than Deathslinger.

I don't really mind a super villain mercenary looking killer. I don't really want a robot unless it's a the T-800.

I mean she outsold him by a long shot tbh

I thought the mori was Freddy copied over.
Anyone have a clip of the two mori side by side?

Ah okay, that's the first time I see the killer in action, since i don't play anymore, and yes the survivor stand up is copied exactly until the arm holding, the killer anymation was new with the drone on the side and different angle but damn the whole thing is basicly the same.
And holy.... Yeah that screams "we wanted the predator", couldn't get it and pasted something else over it.

Where have you been, in a nuclear bunker? I guess you don't do social media like DBD Reddit and Twatter. Neither do I, but what I have seen makes me think majority of DBD players are terminally online, seething about the new character.

I'm not throwing it around casually. I'm calling it how I see it. Don't like it, disagree but don't start language policing.

They literally specified the gender of the killer in one of their bullet points. And heaven forbid, she walks with an exaggerated feminine walk.
1 -
I had zero expectations so I'm not really fussed by what we got
2 -
Her mori is so goddamn boring.
Also, as I've pointed out elsewhere: I don't understand how the Skull Merchant is supposed to track or even see survivors within an active drone area. The amount of visual noise from the laser light show is ridiculous. Beyond not being able to see within the drone area, something about the brightness and color of all those lights aggravates my eyes

Her mask looks ridiculous, her power seems pretty bad, and her weapon is cool, but looks exactly like a predator claw. Nothing about her has anything to do with skulls, got more skulls in my leftover Halloween decorations from last year.
8 -
Yeah there's quite a bit actually

Why tf does her design remind me of Jago from Killer Instinct 1994/2013? Must be the mask.

Wanted a shirtless vittorio android/shirtless trickster, or a female melted face killer robot, more likely

I think the power of the killer is pretty cool, but it lacks in some aspects, but besides my own nitpicks, it is cool nonetheless.
The mori is disappointing. The very much so similarity to Freddy. The drone and the animations just lack the oomph.
I don't care much about lore and her outfit isn't the best. Her weapon animation is weird. It open handed and high up. It's odd.

You have to break the Killer by Gender, Nationality and Skin Color and because you don’t like her, it’s obvious you don’t like every thing she represents. So you are indeed a sexist racist nationalist.
Because Twitter Logic.

I still don't get what the purpose of the drone is, in this mori.

I think the idea is to put it over gens and hotspots to force survivors to disable it and get tagged.

Every time we say stuff like this, it downplays the meaning of the word when there is actual misogyny
7 -
Legion is the most boring killer to face because it is like running from a survivor. No drama, no tension, no intimidation, no atmosphere, no horror.
2 -
I have to agree with this, its absolutely understandable to be disappointed, but don't decide a design is horrible based just cause it is not what you imagined it would be from a very loose teaser.
2 -
At no point I said it's bad just because it didn't meet my expectations. All the stuff I pointed out as being bad would still be bad regardless of what I or anyone else would be expecting... but sure, I commented spectations her teaser raised in the community and, yes, I commented how it disappointed me multiple times, so I guess is my fault for not making crystal clear that not meeting spectations wasn't what's bad about her. Still, doesn't change any of the rest: she is bad because everything about her is bad. Her look is quite ordinary, her lore is pretty empty and make no sense with her concept, her powers is ghostface with extra steps plus aura reading, her mori is Freddy with a prop. NONE of that would be any better without expectations.

Imo, what should've been done was someone from bhvr's new game, would've been a nice little crossover
