Would fewer chapters be a good direction to go in?
To go quality over quantity?
I have long been very forgiving and positive about new releases, and have been a fan of content that hasn't been the most popular.
That said, this new chapter feels more like a rushed placeholder than fully designed content, for a myriad of reasons that are being discussed in detail. It's paper thin.
With both the killer and survivor rosters already robust and only getting bigger, would it make sense to reduce the number of annual releases? It has often been proposed to skip a chapter in favor of "game health" updates, but I am thinking just permanently reducing to 2-3 new chapters a year simply to spend more time on them.
I look at this chapter as something we absolutely didn't need; releasing content for the sake of it.

With 2 chapters a year you get very long spans of content drought. I doubt a live-service game can handle that.
3 might be better.

Yeah, there's a balance you have to find, for sure. That said, you could fill some of those gaps with paragraphs rather than chapters, with more emphasis on really fleshing out the bigger releases.
To me, half baked content is not much better than no content, and in many cases worse, since your rep for quality takes a hit.
That said, 3 annual chapters would be a good number, I think.

Last time we had a 6 month gap between chapters (Ver 1.9.4 - 2.0 I believe) it was a huge tank in playerbase and in overall online content. The game went down to 22,000 players average from like 33,000 and it was lowest it had been in quite a long time.
This playerbase needs constant new things to play with otherwise everyone gets bored and leaves its sad to say but its true

Yes. The game is getting more and more overwhelming for new players because of the ever growing number of killers that they have to learn to play as and/or against. Even as an experienced player it would be nice to have a few months break where I am not having to learn the intricacies of a brand new killer just as I am starting to get used to the last released killer.

I wish 2 content drops were new killers and survivors, and 1-2 a year were modes. Besides killers and perk changes, the base game is the exact same as it was 6 years ago.

The problem with going Quality over quantity is obtaining rights to popular licensed franchises isint easy. This game would explode if we got Jason with 2 counselors and a Macmillans camp crystal lake map variation. Having 2 licensed DLCs a year would be better then currently in my opinion..

Yes. Absolutely! They could've canceled this Chapter altogether to give us straight "game health" updates for the next few months, and I wouldn't have batted an eye..

Probably not since the 1 midchapter they decided to focus on bug fixes and behind the scenes improvements, people complained.
Not a chapter, a midchapter

I don't think the number of chapters is necessarily the issue, but I also don't know what the average day at BHVR looks like compared to the average day at another studio. I don't think it's a coincidence that we've only had 1 interesting killer power (Wesker) since McLean left. By interesting I mean, mechanically complex and fun to use.
The drop off in killer quality from the Spirit-Blight era til now is staggering. They were cranking out chapters back then, and yeah, there were some duds (LEGION), but most of them were bangers. Twins-now? Woof.
Maybe there's a case to be made that the chapter frequency doesn't allow them to be agile when they aren't going in the right direction and need to change course. They could be locked into these terrible zero-skill 3 gen killer designs for the foreseeable future. It reminds me of Madden in that way where they know it's terrible but they're locked into a roadmap and can't hit the brakes. Just kind of speculating.

They said they have more people working on cosmetics, so im hoping that also means more people working on the game itself

Most people seem to agree that the following Chapters were very lackluster upon reveal. Legion, Trickster, and ....the skull... merchant.. :/ They just don't reach as broad of an audience as I'm sure BHVR hoped they would..

I think the issue they'd face with that is that people would have high expectations when it came to the chapters. So if they released one every 6 months instead of 3, and it's an underwhelming chapter, then people would be disappointed at having waited so long for that chapter, plus the knowledge that the next chapter is 6 months away. They'd probably just stop with original chapters too and stick to licensed ones, which I know some players wouldn't mind but I quite like the original chapters

If it means more bigger balance changes it is good, except the fact balance changes bring no money and this game is a job for them.

Maybe they could skip a mid- chapter every so often to focus on quality of life updates and perk meta shakeup, perhaps add a bunch of nice skins to try and make up for lost profits of not having a chapter.

Knight is pretty good evidence of this. The killer was flop, and everyone was just so burnt out since there was nothing new to do that was fun or exciting. This chapter is gonna go exactly the same, and people will be gone from the game even longer or even forget about it.
