I legit almost fell asleep while playing Dull Merchant
I am not even joking, trying to get her adept and be done with this torture but good god this killer actually almost caused me to fall asleep on my keyboard. So I have advice for anyone that is struggling to sleep at night: just log on to DBD and play Skull Merchant (Dull Merchant is more fitting), you'll fall asleep in no time.
It is kind of a shame this killer turned out like this though. Wesker was such a home run but that was the last exciting killer we have gotten. Hoping the anniversary will be better.

Her power is so boring. It's passive, you put up a drone and then... wait.
I've only played against one Skull Merchant as survivor, and she was friendly, so I can't make a real comment, but the drones are at least a bit interactive for survivors. I'm sure they become boring as hell if she sets up a 3-gen, though.

It's not interactive from the survivor side, trust me. You run in and disable the drone, she immediately shows up and either chases or hits you off, she drops chase to set up another drone and bother someone else, you wait for it to become interactable so you can disable it. Repeat until either attrition or voluntary suicide.
I've versed a single Skull Merchant who didn't camp the hell out of gens, and she was the only one that got a 4E.

I thankfully got adept my first game with her, so I don’t have to touch her ever again. It was a miserable game.

I got her adept first try, but I'm one away from the other achievement with downing while exposed with her drone that I'm gonna cheese (in which I cheesed 7 of the 9) and never touch her again. Her dailies will be up there with demo, hag, and twins that will be an auto reroll for me

uhm. Maybe place her traps more strategically and play accordingly, some of her addons also seem interesting.
not saying she is strong or whatever, but her greatest flaw is her being an M1 killer which is just a problem from the general game design (and tbh Nurse and Blight and the few others existing and not being nerfed will result in basic M1 killers not getting any significant buffs either)
it sounds like you are either burnt out of DbD and need a break or just play a killer that’s more appealing to your taste. There are.. how many available? And no one forced you to get this one. There are people that like this killer and can use her power and she is in need of some adjustments for sure. But she gets way too much hate for being an average M1 killer..

other killers can do that too and are not that hated. Some even more effectively. And you don’t have to play her like that yourself just because it’s her best strategy.
heck, i still think this is more engaging than hard tunneling Nurses and Spirits or facecamping Bubbas and Huntresses.

I admit though I'm glad we got Wesker - He's probably the most well designed killer we've gotten in a while. I was on the verge of just uninstalling the game before he released. Guess I'll be playing the waiting game for a while until they release another one like him.
But yeah - historically most people do not like the defensive killer powers because it takes away the hide and seek / chase part of the game and forces survivor to try to entice the killer to chase them instead of leaving their precious 3 gen. Granted Merch's power is a tiny bit more flexible than that I don't particularly see most people enjoying play as it or against it but I'm sure it will pick up a few people who are a fan.

On topic, I'm not even going to buy this killer so that I can't have her dailies show up. 😎 I'm not really an achievement completionist in this game because there's some achievements I can't be bothered to get.

Okay so I've spent 2 days playing her begrudgingly and found out a few ways that I can kindof enjoy her... But just barely. Also with what type of maps she works with:
Ive tested out two different combinations of totem builds, and playing full totems are a bit challenging but fairly fun. If I was lucky, I would get good totems but just like all totem builds sometimes you just spawn in and have to watch your totems instantly die. Using cameras that give several debuffs was an optimal choice for this play style because I could much more easily protect my totems this way.
Another play style ive found to work is go fully info and exhaust denial. Yeah she's an M1 killer but her information makes her pretty powerful in this apsect. I lot of people don't respect her lock on ability and you can use that for an advantage. When in a loop, if you place down the can you don't have to wait to put it in the location you want, you can continue the chase and the camera will be placed exactly where you pressed it. If you win your chases quick by using half of them to shutdown loops and force exposure, and the other to guars key gens, while running scourge hook / info combo has allowed me to win games before a 3 gen.
Personally I've had fun playing her only situationally. Any big map is terrible for her, people can just run around her cameras that you set up. So if you find yourself in s big map, then yeah 3 gens are really the only way to win with her.

Got it 2nd try and thats because the last survivor in the 1st game DC'd out of spite. On the 3rd game got the 10 lock-on downs because a survivor was playing like Boil Over was never nerfed.
No reason for me to play her again.

This killer is way worse than Knight ever was. All she can is camping a 3-gen. Thats it.

Fair enough. I enjoy her personally (But I’m the same cretin who’s mained clown for over 2 years)
Merchant definitely excels at camping 3 gens but that’s equally a problem with perks like CoB and overcharge which reward the strategy as it is her power itself. I’ve been using brutal and fire up alongside her action speed add-on to have fun tearing through pallets in chase

I’m glad some people like her. Maybe she’ll grow on me but I just haven’t had really anything positive to say about her at the moment.

Personally, I love playing SM. I was always very jumpy with my Killers but she's the first where I think I could really settle with. Of course everyone's allowed to have their own opinion about her.

I’d say try the knight again. They are having a light “renaissance period” where folks are seein GB cool things to do with him and having fun not just placing guards at loops.
as for SM, it’s major cope and buyers remorse denial turned up to 10 imo. What’s fun about her? Like what is actually the fun mechanic these select few can see that the rest of us don’t? If anything it’s more annoying that all she does is hold w and occasionally press m2 at loops. Unless you really like camping slugs, or holding a mostly average 3 gen (seriously, her 3 gen is not that good, especially if you have to hook a survivor anywhere near a gen). And can we all admit she is absolutely the single worst, no contest? Like I would love to see an argument for why she is not the absolute worse

I picked up the Skull Merchant with shards, got her to prestige 1 for the perks, got the adept (second game, thanks to potato survs).
Will I use her again? Not anytime soon. Have yet to see her as a surv, which is highly unusual for a new killer in their first week of release.
The Knight has actually grown on me a bit. Not great, but there's something there you can spin into fun. I don't see that with the SM.

Yeah, three times in a row someone disconnected while I was going for the adept. I'm so glad BHVR implemented Merciless Killer to work this way. -_- Even someone disconnecting on the hook takes it down to Ruthless.

When Artist first released, I about did fall in love actually. Then after time I got bored of her and stopped playing her for a long time and then eventually got back into her.
In terms of what I’m playing currently, Artist is one of my favorites, I just really love her and her playstyle. Going for cross maps is so satisfying. I also find her fun to play against, but I do know a lot of people don’t which is understandable.
So I’m hoping I can find something redeeming about Skull Merchant. I don’t really mind her visuals that much as some people do because to me, human killers are probably the most scary due to them being the most realistic. She definitely needs changes and hopefully BHVR focuses on the right things.

I just DC in the loading screen if I see the Skull Merchant tooltip pop up. I don't want to vs an M1 killer for 40 minutes lol

I love playing Skull Merchant. I love all the free tracking, intermittent undetectables, and occasional expose one hit downs. Like trapper and hag, she sets up an area and guards. It's just easier to set up and easy to replace drones when they go down.
These kinds of killers aren't for everyone. But I only really enjoy the M1 killers myself, so you can go play the other kinds. Not all of the 30+ killers need to be loved by 100% of the playerbase.

I'm all for diversity and I want to preface this - I'm absolutely glad and happy you enjoy the killer. I know part of my feeling is from old DBD, especially with Hillbilly in mind, but all of these killers feel like they just drag the game out and it sucks the fun out for me whether I'm playing as them or against them. It's not the players fault if the killers are designed to protect an area but that's my issue. I feel like holding down and protecting an area shouldn't be a killers greatest strength because it puts it in the hands of the survivor to go out of their way to start chase and if a killer doesn't want to commit games can last 15-20 minutes. This is why I've also grown to hate the 3 gen strat even if it's the smart thing to do.
I miss when killers were added that were meant to be chase killers or the occasional range ones. I'm not opposed to tracking killers but I really do not like when it's all centered around protecting an area. This killer and knight is reminding me why I started to become a killer main for many years. Genuinely hated playing against immobile / passive killers.
Merch does have a cool looking kit but I just cannot get into it - I need to be moving and I really wish the drones could move as well. Gives the merch more room for failure and a more interesting dynamic for survivors to avoid the drone instead of it just being a locked down area.
But yeah - You're right they're not for everyone and I'm glad BHVR is catering to everyone. But right now I'm miserable playing this game. Knight sucked a good amount of fun out of it and we get a killer with a very similar playstyle released directly after. I wouldn't mind too much if they weren't back to back.

I prefer going against SM than Knight. Knight's guards... you really just have to wait them out. There's nothing else to do. For SM, someone has to take out the drones and take chase. There's no way around it. Deja Vu will help a lot with trying to make sure you break the 3-gen areas ASAP. Really, she requires working as a team and not just hiding, which is where I'm seeing a lot of survivors going wrong with her. They get it down to 4 gens in a single area and then just... hide.
Coordination is hard in solo queue, I'm well aware. I used to mainly play that way and she can definitely feel oppressive if the drones are placed well. (like on top of the stairs in Temple of PukeNation) That drone area keeps both sets of stairs on lockdown and if you want the drone, you have to get exposed. Most of the multi-floor maps feel nasty in her favor. Someone just has to bite the bullet, disable the drone, and take the chase. If everyone's on task instead of off screwing around in a corner somewhere, she can't stop everyone and she doesn't have a way to forcefully delay the game or stall gen progress like Knight or Doctor. Problem is, most survivors are really, really bad.

It's honestly impressive how they managed to release a killer that's extremely weak, boring to play as and miserable to play against with all that 3 gen stalemates.

From experience so far she doesn't even do that great in solo. Typically at most she'll get 1-2 hooks by the time 3-4 gens pop and then goes from committing to chase to ensuring they're always within arms reach of a generator. Then my teammates get bored because no one is willing to get hooked and they give up and either suicide or DC because they're bored because the merchant won't commit to a chase if it pulls them away from a gen. This is how almost every single one of my games have gone with her. The only exceptions are maps with two floors where she can place drones in nasty spots where you can't traverse without turning them off and you have to go to the opposite floor out of the way to reach. Midwich is actually quite painful to play against her.
Funny thing is she's not that great up until she gets to a multi floor map then she becomes frustrating because it feels like the entire game is just cheesing.

I look at this way: some people like mayonnaise in their coffee. But you won't see any coffee shops putting that option on the menu. Most people find it gross and it'll turn people away if it's even an option. It's fine (I guess) if some people like it, but you don't have to cater to it.
That's what killers like the Knight and Skull Merchant are. They're mayonnaise in coffee. Their best playstyle is something few people are going to enjoy, and a lot of people are going to think is super gross. It's something you *can* design, but it's not something you *should* be devoting entire content cycles to.

Game right now: it took 36min till I was dead. Impossible to beat a 3gen as solo.
36min (!). And I assume thats not a rarity, thats common on this worst killer they ever created.
