The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

A new game mode would most likely make DbD more successful than it's ever been.

I know, it's a very "no sh*t Sherlock" statement, but like... It really is a no-brainer, isn't it? From what I could gather, the thing that would hype up players the most is that if they could experience something new and different, and not just the same boring stale gameplay that we had since 2016. I feel like now is very much the time for the devs to just change their schedule, temporarily stop making new chapters (we already have more than enough characters and perks) and to start thinking about implementing one, or God forbid, maybe even two new modes or something. Or like making new interesting stand-alone maps. Stuff like that.

What do you guys think? Is it time for a change?

I would love a new game mode and it’s actually been asked by the devs in some of the ‚recent‘ community surveys iirc? So they have at least played with that though a little.

though while a highly requested 2v8 or something mode could be interesting I think that would still be too similar and I would prefer a more original/creative mode..

    Some alternative game modes could include;

    1. Hardcore (No terror radius, red stain, auras and limited HUD.

    2. First person perspective

    3. Perkless (perks can be found in game and equipped)

    4. Switch repairing generators for crafting/finding parts to build a raft to escape an island (alternative to gens and exit gates) farfetched idea lol

    5. 2 v 8 (Frequently suggested)

You know, looking at this gave me an insane idea for a "roguelike" DBD mode. Where Killers and Survivors have to gain perks and stuff mid-match and lose them all at the end of the game.

    And not a temp. event.

    A whole new, 24/7 mode

I wonder if new game modes require licence agreements. Like 2v8 would have freddy and leatherface in the same match, wonder if thats allowed.

    It wouldnt.

It would be lots of development time which would go into the new gamemode instead of the existing gamemode. And for what? For people playing it for two weeks before they dont like it anymore.

The 2v8 idea has been tossed around here a lot lately. I'm pretty sure anything like that would require a complete recoding of the game from the ground up. The current shaky code simply cannot handle that much more going on without game performance taking a huge nosedive.

Well ummm... Maybe make a mode that's actually, you know, fun? I don't really understand your argument.

If they rush it and just throw something together then of course it's not gonna be good. That's common sense.

This is not how development works. I'm working on a project that we developed for 12 months at my job, A lot of hard work and labor went into it with careful design consideration. And guess what our customers really hate it. We have to redesign the entire thing from scratch. If behavior did this, and it flops, the game would literally die from lack of updates to the base game and the teams internally are not set up in a way where this would even be feasible to work on things simultaneously

I've always wanted a mode where 2 killers could play together, so killer mains can play with their friends. Idk what it'd be like, it's just an idea after all.

I did have a dumb idea for a mode though, the killer has a third person perspective, and the survivors have a first person perspective, it sounds stupid and that's exactly why I want it.

I think it really depends on what you mean by new mode. If we're talking a game which is even moderately different, not going to happen. Way too much to code and balance to make it even possible. And the balance issues would be an ongoing thing, with each new character/perks they would have two game types to consider.

It would also be a massive risk as @KingFieldShipper points out. It would far exceed the work of a chapter and people probably wouldn't even like it.

If we were to see a new mode I suspect they'd just move onto DbD 2 so they could actually design the code around multiple types of games.

If you are talking about keeping the base game pretty much the same with just some minor tweaks tweaks, I can see that as possible. @SMitchell8 gives a few proposals.

If we're just dreaming here, I'd like something with random perks/items/addons. Either random perks at startup or gaining them over the course of the game. I suspect that mode would be hated by the community though because its basically an RNG fest.

I did not even say that they would rush it.

I think they would spend a lot of time on a new gamemode. But the thing is, I dont think that a new gamemode would actually be played much by the community. Sure, at first it will be packed with players. But afterwards, only a small fraction of the playerbase will play it. And then all this time which was spent for developing the new gamemode (which also includes balancing and all other things) could have been better brought to the already existing game.

It is not like current DBD is in a bad state or anything. Some people say it is dying every Chapter or Midchapter, but the game is doing well for a game which is already a few years old. So why should they risk this for a gamemode which might not even attract many players to begin with?
