Having internet issues and forcefully disconnected and got 5 minute ban?
Hi all,
I have been having internet issues and my game gets turned off because my internet cut. Typically the ban is only for 10 seconds, but I just got disconnected and got a 5 minute ban. I was wondering if the bans got any higher and what to do about it?
I play with my spouse, who plays PC and I play console (PS5) and my spouse doesn’t have as much issues as I do, despite using the same internet, so would it even be an internet issue or would it be a server issue? Tbh any help on this would be greatly appreciated because I’m so tired of having to constantly restart or being kicked from games and having to wait until my spouse gets out of the matches.
(my spouse does have issues, too, from time to time but it’s mostly me)
thanks all!

If it's just you and not your spouse on PC, then could it be your wifi? Could the PS5 be closer to the router, or maybe try a wifi extender.
But yes, DC penalties increase incrementally. They start at 1 minute (by the time you make it back to the lobby screen it's likely only 30s or less remaining) and then increase to 5, 15, 30, 1 hour, 6 hours and 24 hours. However DC counts decay over time (around 24-48 hours) so if you only DC once per day or so, then it'll only be the 1 minute ban each time.

that is a good idea! My spouse is a lot closer to the router than I am, so I’ll have to see what we can do about that. Thank you so much!!

The reason for the disconnect aside, the match was still ruined for the other players in your match. The stacking penalty ought to deter you from possibly ruining the match for more players until you get your connection issue resolved. Harsh, but fair for the others 🤷♂️

And if you're unlucky and the disconnect happens 23 hours and 59 minutes later, the "day" of decay doesn't count and you get the next tier of timeout.
