lets discuss which character do you gravitate to using in dbd and why?

on the killer side i started as a trapper main because i liked big brain plays. this changed into wraith/legion/doc/blight afterwards because i liked chase builds. recently i have become more of a blight/plague/legion with a lot of knight because it is a more chill experience where i feel more in control.

on the survivor side i am still a loyal ace fan since he was my first p3 adept (him being really quiet while hurt helps as well).

what about the rest of you? anyone you can relate to or that you play because of reasons?

First killer I really gravitated towards was Spirit, because I could use her to surprise survivors (Distressing for large TR, chase one person, then use phase to go to a nearby gen or someone healing and get the drop on them). I got compliments for actually scaring survivors by doing that, which made me quite happy. Then she lost collision and because I can't track via sound in DbD that really hurt me, and then the directional audio even within her TR was added so now she can't surprise survivors at all.

Then for a while I liked Blight (after his camera was brought up; playing him gave me awful headaches when his camera was low to the ground) due to his mobility.

My current killer is Nemesis. I find his tentacle satisfying to use. The zombies may be dumb as rocks and get their toes stuck on pebbles, but they're my bros.

My first survivor to main was Kate, 'cause she's hot. I've played other survivors on and off (Ash and Leon, mostly), but I've pretty much exclusively played Ada since she was released.

i keep returning to blight and billy. There aren't that many mechanically hard killers in this game and these killers probably have the most skill expression than any other in the game.

Of course I play Legion. The whole DLC is very metal, and dare I say edgy, yet Susie is stated to be shy, and she looks kinda girly, even with the more gungy aesthetic. I love everything about the Legion, especially Susie.

As for survivors I mainly play Cheryl, or Heather. Her lobby animation is just so relatable, and while she acts brave, Cheryl seems very timid and shy. I also adore Silent Hill, so there's that.

As a killer spirit. I love her design and i love how chase oriented she is. To me nothing is best than a good chase in this game. If i lose or win i will lose/win by chasing people and not by 3 genning or camping.

Survivor. Meg. First i picked Yun JIn Lee, but i don't know i guess watching Samination parodies made me gravitate more towards Meg. Now im a proud P100 Megladon mainer, and i wouldnt change for a thing.

i'm similar to you: ace main from when i started to play the game and regarding killers i WAS a trapper main, all this changed after the ruin rework that shift my mains to oni and deathslinger (pre nerf)... actually i don't have a real main, but when i've only toxic people in my matches i'll switch to bubba and/or nurse... it's quite ironic after all: i'm starting to main my most hated killer in the game due to the toxicity involved in my matches (i'm quite vengeful on that aspect: if you want to annoy me expect concequences of your behavior)

For Killer, nobody really currently. When I started playing Killer I really enjoyed Bubba, at some point this switched to Spirit, followed by Billy, which I played a ton. Sometimes 8 hours a day just playing Billy.

Then, before Doctor was buffed, I had lots of fun playing Doctor because it was quite challenging to get good with switching modes for him so that I can use the ability in chase and still dont lose distance because of that. Took a bit of fun out of it when they buffed him that he does not need to switch stances, but whatever.

Then there was a time where I played Demo for a long time. And the most recent obsession was probably Nemesis when he got released, I really played him a ton, almost as much as Billy back in the day.

Currently, I play basically every Killer, but less. Simply because I usually play Killer when the queue times are high and for some reason since incentives, I dont really play that much Killer anymore, simply because I can visually see that the queue times will be longer and I wont get as many BPs compared to playing Survivor (not that I play Survivor during the day, because I would play Solo and I dont do that anymore).

But if I have to pick a Killer, I would say I really enjoy Billy, but BHVR makes it harder with their Map Reworks. So much stuff on the ground, little twigs in loops which hinder curving and other things really make him a bit frustrating to play.

For Survivor, I am a Nea-Main since the beginning. I just like her cosmetics and her general style.

I like to play legion too cause they are very fun, and have a good set of add-ons so it feels like i am getting good value out of the bp i spend on them.

I've never really been sure on a survivor main. I feel like the small difference between each of them actually makes it harder to choose than killer. But i do like Renato, and the lobby music is nice too so for now i like to play Renato.

Killer side I tend to lean on Wraith as my point farmer. I just love his ability to surprise and run down survivors fast. Another I have fun running is tablet Plague for the unique/unexpected playstyle, ability to deny healing, and forcing survivors to choose whether to be one-shot or heal and give me unlimited ranged death for 60 seconds at a time.

Survivor side I don't have a particular favorite as they're all just perk skins, no real uniqueness. I'll usually run whichever is the most quiet and/or hides in plain sight well.

First time seeing Nemo I hated him (about 20 hours into the game 😂) - then I got the RE chapter (cause was replaying all RE parts at the time and wanted Leon) and figured if he's so annoying I might as well try and figure out what his deal is. And somehow he was surprsingly fun and just stuck. I'd never thought I'd be a Nemo main... but I guess I am 😅 I also like Shocktor a lot recently (don't ask me why, it just kinda happened) - but Nemo is still best boi, even after ~800 killer hours.

As for survivors; the first character I played a lot was Leon (again, because I relived the RE hype at the time^^) - and even though I don't play him all that much anymore (he's my BP dump and I don't like playing high prestige characters) he's probably still my fav. Next one up was Felix who I played a lot (I really like that one hair & that blue jacket - I also really like his lore) . But now, after about 1k survivor hours I find myself really enjoying playing Dwight - with the Beanie. Tho, since that's atm texture-less I'm grabbing the other beanie: Quentin. ... So... I guess for survivors it's either sentimental (Leon) or specific cosmetic items (Felix & Dwight).

The first killer I had an immediate "I want to play as THEM" feeling for before I bought the game was the Hag. I just loved the idea of jumpscaring people and her power seemed super cool ! =D

But she was a bit hard for a complete beginner with no map knowledge or chasing capabilities so I took heed of that "Very difficult" warning and figured I'd try an easier killer first.

Out of the "Easy" killers to play, I thought Legion looked fun, running fast and stabbing people sounded really good, so I started playing as them. =)

They're the two killers I play most to this day, though I'm now experimenting a bit with Ghostface, Nemesis and Spirit.

On the survivor side, my first survivor was Kate, because she had a biker outfit and Dance With Me/Windows (half my first serious build, along with Lithe and Q&Q). Nowadays I play as Haddie more, because I like her and her anniversary outfit is beautiful.

My first main was oni, for obvious reasons. His sound effects are one of a kind. He’ll always have a place on my top 3 killers. Before Oni, I pretty much played only survivor.

Now blight has been my main since his release and I play majority killer, unless my SWF is on.

I started out as a clown main, as i usually play fat characters, grendel from warframe and shugoki from for honor come to mind. After i got bullied by three back to back swfs i quit killer for a while, came back to killer when the mr puddles skin dropped, did a lot of trapper for tome stuff and learned the fundamentals of killer. After that i mained oni for a good month or two, got ghostface, learned the ways of the stealth killer, applied my teachings to clown. Pyramid head dropped so i became a phallic artist for a few weeks. Next i got legion, had fun going fast and stabbing people. Around 2021 i thought it'd be a fun idea to play pig and her playstyle kinda stuck.

I remember the first nurse game i ever did, all but one of the survivors dcd, so i just forced him to do 5 gens and the gate. This was around the time i was a trapper main, wanted to test out every killer.

Survivor side, i started out as david bc british (where welsh survivor bhvr?) , unironically ran no mither every game, then moved to bill. Can't really remember much, but i ended up maining quentin until his face got ruined, so i tend to switch between feng, ash, jonathan and jeff, though mostly feng these days.

(I started played around when demo dropped)

I joined DbD the day they added Freddy, played him until the rework, played two more weeks before giving him up. Then played Plague until her nerf, played DS after, till his nerf, played Twins but got tired of the Devs ignoring her, so gave her up. I’m enjoying Skull Merchant now, but I suspect that will be short lived.

I p3 Feng for the trophies, not really a survivor player but I’ve finally moved onto Kate. That scarecrow costume was worth the switch, she looks awesome in it~

Plague is my number one killer as she requires more thinking about the macro game than most killers. That and she has a multitude of build and play variations. I recently started putting more time into Twins and am really enjoying that at the moment.

Ace is my go to survivor.

For killer it was clown at first due to his ridiculous look and sound design alongside his simple power. Now it’s merchant because I like finding value in things people consider bad

For Survivor it was Jeff because I relate to him and Jane because I found her cosmetics cute. Now I main Haddie though since she’s underrated and has amazing lore and visual design

For me it was Spirit simply because she was cut up and I was like, why she look like that? Plauge was the main reason I found out about DBD cause I saw a trailer for her and saw a name at the bottom called Jane Romero years ago.

Jane cause of her tome lore. Her experience as a poc resonated with me cause climbing the industry to make dreams exists feels difficult when you're seen as a joke or comedic relief.

I have a lot. I pretty much only played Spirit when I started in 2018. I love Plague because I tend to gravitate towards the disease-spreader archetype in games. Nurse is just fun, and it helps that she's the best killer in the game. Billy and Wesker are super satisfying to hit their power with. And I play a lot of Trapper because catching people in traps is fun, and there's something intimidating about a P10+ fully bloody Trapper. Trappers in prestige cosmetics are one of the most intimidating killers to see at the start, in my experience.

Killer definitely demo (in case you couldn't tell by my profile pic) He's the reason I brought the game. Spent ages trying to find a physical copy of the nightmare edition for xbox so I could still use him since I only started in august. His playstyle is so cool and he's very balanced, requires real skill to use effectively. Wish I could buy some cosmetics for him tho. 🙃

Survivor used to like kate, steve and david but I've settled on jeff. As a fellow metalhead and doglover he's very relatable. Plus he has some dope outfits, and is a very wholesome character.

Pig was my first Killer... and by far my favorite

But that being said... Huntress, Spirit and Hag are my other go too Killer

Huntress- Throwing hatchets is fun... and it's something different

Spirit- Phasing mindgames are pretty fun IMO

Hag- Strategic play is fun as well...

And the others are playing off of that

First started with wraith and trapper cause we like ambush plays and infinites were a problem then moving along to Freddy as we liked the unique mechanics and jump-scare Freddy till Legion cause we liked the violent repeated stabbings (don't judge it was cathartic after groups of toxic survivors...) then came Ghostie till silent hill came to the fog and after that Artist. We play everyone from twins to blight but Artist is still at the top. We're not sure why we gravitate to these killers more than others though.

For survivor I was usually David as I share part of his name till silent hill came and we like being a Silent Hill squad on occasion.

At first i played Doctor mostly, his ability to stop Survivors from looping was extremely satisfying especially when you cut off someone right before they vault.

Currently it's sitting between Artist and Leatherface. Artist for her sniping ability with her birds which you can pull some sick trick shots off with, Leatherface because he's direct and straight to the point and with Lightborn, Bamboozle, Starstruck, and Spirit Fury, no one is gonna try anything funny unless they wanna end up on the ground as well.

I was a Hag main when I started because I liked being able to anticipate where people would run and set traps there, but then it felt like a stressful chore to have to keep resetting traps, so I became a Pig main instead. I liked having stealth and a built-in slowdown, and I liked how my ears looked when I saw my shadow. Then MMR happened, and my Pig games became miserable.

I currently don't have a main killer, but I usually have fun with Artist, Nemesis, and Onryo.

For survivors, I play whoever I have a new outfit on, but Kate and Meg are the ones I play most, since they both have lots of nice cosmetics that mix well together.

  • Aurelle
    Aurelle Member Posts: 3,611

First killer I ever mained was Legion. This was back in 2018, so they were drastically different back then. I liked their hit and run type of playstyle and downing people with Feral Frenzy was really fun. After they got nerfed for the second time, I moved on to maining Spirit.

I loved Spirit and mained her for a long time before she eventually got nerfed into the ground. I really didn't like that they removed her collision during Phase Walking, as that was the most fun part of her power for me. That and Mother-Daughter Ring + Father's Glasses combo. I still don't get why they removed Father's Glasses.

I mained Pig after Spirit's eventual nerf. Then Artist came out and I absolutely fell in love with her and kinda abandoned Pig. I love Artist's power and getting Bird Snipes is so satisfying. Her Addons can make things interesting and I really like her cosmetics.

As for survivor, I used to main Nea and Feng back in the day. Now I just play whoever, but I play Nea, Kate, Renato and Thalita the most.

The first killer I wanted to play was Nurse, I sucked at it and it was quite terrible cause console at the time was so unoptimized, but I really liked the idea of a teleporting killer and I wanted to be a Nurse growing up. The second killer was huntress cause I really liked longshots, third was hillbilly, fourth was spirit, then I went back to just playing Huntress, Nurse, and Billy cause spirit just got unfun after the nerf just felt entirely different and I lost interest, im not sure why.

For survivor I wanted to play Meg, then I played as Feng, then I played as Yui, and now I currently play as Lisa Garland so I am now a double Nurse main.

Dredge for me. It would be Onyro if she wasn't so god awful without specific addons.

I just enjoy the mix of mobility and stealth even if the chase powers are not that amazing. Going beast-mode at night is great, and popping out of lockers actually seems more like a horror game to me than the other characters.

A lot of the stealth killers got their horror aspect nerfed with the new UI icons, but having the mobility to strike anywhere at the drop of a hat mitigates that problem quite a bit

I play since September 2016 and my first main was Billy. To be honest, I didn't know what I was doing back then so I didn't play him that well but he sticked to me until..

October 25th, 2016: Myers release. It was really scary to have a normal human looking guy with no Terror Radius who was just looking at you from a distance. It was eery as heck, now it's not scary at all. But the feeling I've felt when playing against Myers back then was intense. I wanted to be one of those and he became my first ever main I even enjoyed playing, use his power efficiently to some extent. He made me familiar with the Halloween movies I enjoyed for a long time (Ends killed my desire to watch Halloween)

Then I was an all-rounder for a very long time till Pyramid Head was "nerfed". I wasn't playing PH after his release that much, I actually hated him because all people did was press M2 and then cancel with no penalty, actually using his PotD attack was really risky cuz you had a 2.75 second cooldown every time, but after the "nerf" were they gave him a slight penalty to cancelling and reduced his PotD cooldown to 2.25 seconds, I started playing him more and he was one of the first I could play match after match like crazy. I started learning stuff like flicking, M2-tech (which isn't possible anymore). I got really advanced with him.. and bored.

His Add-ons are trash, he has no different playstyles, so at some poing I just stopped playing him. I played alot of Blight after his release but eventually I got bored and felt bad because literally everyone played him at that point.

Instead, I started playing alot of Spirit after she got nerfed, her chase music pumped me up and motivated me, outplaying people with her phase felt actually rewarding, unlike before where she could literally stand still and get hits. Her variety of Add-ons made me happy because I could actually try out different playstyles.

Once Legion got reworked, I thought I'd play them more and I did.. but for not a long time. I got bored quickly. After that I played Wesker a lot when he was released but also not for long. After Wesker I played dbd only partially so I mostly played swf and then went off for 2 or 3 weeks again to do some RL stuff because I was quite addicted to dbd before.

Now I play dbd more regularely again but without the addictive amount I did before, I still prioritize RL (before I'd neglect important stuff in RL which could've ended really bad). Anyways, my go to at the moment is Pyramid Head again. I never really unlearned how to play him, I still get some cool flicks and all in all is now my favourite Killer again.

And in case you've read all of that..

    From killer side:

    1. Myers (I like his silent brutal kill style)

    2. Artist (I also play her more silent with the perks i use, its fun jumpscaring people and actually making the game more "horror" vibe"

    3. Pig (Cause i love the rng of the "game" and to punish gen rushers with it plus i can play her as silent killer)

Hag is quite jumpscare killer but i hate playing her or against, I prefer Dredge over her

    From survivor side: ˇ

Nr 1. Yun Jin (I like her fashion but she needs more business cosmetic)

    2. Meg (I like her hair choices but hate her sporty outfits)

    3. Ada Wong (I like everything except her being limited)

Nowhere near "good", but I get by and I have fun =)

Good Hags have impressive knowledge of how to use the camera pull of the traps to use in chase to disorient and disturb the survivor's pathing long enough to get hits in.... and I'm not to that level yet. I don't have much time to play an improve that much, unfortunately.

But I'm still much better at her than I was starting out ! Looking back I used to do such dumb stuff like putting traps right next to gens like "they'll never guess I put it there!", whereas now I do have at least some idea of how survivors move on certain maps (from playing survivor myself), which loops I should trap and which I should not, and I have some really great games. (I also have Corrupt now, which helps tremendously!)

    So that's still progress ! =D

She still has a little too many counters not to feel overwhelmed when I'm in front of a team that can handle her perfectly, but I don't really care for losing a little. I let mmr do its own thing and I'm quickly back to more manageable games =D

I don’t generally like anti loop killers, I prefer macro killers that are more on split pressure.

So like Plague, Pig, Dredge. There’s some anti loop in there but I care more about the map pressure. Plagues probably a little less fitting into that but I enjoy how she ignores the current overtuned heal meta.

Pig, Ghostface, Dredge. I like killers that can have fun with survivors, rather than just beat them into submission. GF and Pig can crouch and teabag back, Dredge can climb in lockers, all three can do some neat stealth plays that catch survivors off-guard for a jump scare, and jump scares are fun for everyone, it's a horror game after all. I want survivors to have a good time too, and I find that when I play these killers, I either have fun even when I lose, or the survivors have fun even when they lose.

Everything honestly. Legion is so flexible that i change my build regulary.

Mostly chase related. Sometimes stealth. Lately been running perkless a lot to improve.

Trapper is rough, but nothing sounds better in this game then hearing a trap shut followed by a scream
