What are you thankful for?

DbD and BHVR get a lot of hate in general, but the devs do a lot of good things. What good things are you happy about for the game? Anything from changes recently to changes from five years ago.

For me:

  • Mori rework (can't instantly kill survivors on first down anymore)
  • Dead Hard nerf
  • Nurse lost her range and recharge add-ons
  • Iron Will nerf (this perk single-handedly made the game unbearable for me)
  • Skull Merchant changes
  • Deathslinger is finally meta-friendly for the first time since his release
  • NOED nerf
  • Legion buff
  • Eruption nerf (a thousand times, thank God)
  • Wraith buff
  • Wesker existing
  • The many map reworks (uh, the good ones I mean)
  • Huge variety in viable perks for both killer and survivor
  • Walking back on the 3D screams, bringing them back to 2D
  • All the wonderful memories I've made and the friendships I've built through this game <3

What about y'all? What are some things you are thankful that got changed or added?

No mater what we think of what BHVR does, we have always been amazed at how good the visual updates look. Even the one update we dislike still looks great.

We also appreciate the DS nerfs over the years. Slowly but surely got to a good point (tipped abit after that but still).

This one will probably get us yapped at but we also like how the game has (slowly) become more and more balanced. No instant heal medkits or instant repair bnp. No true infinites baseline. No recovering from exhausted while running. The small things add up.

And for BHVR putting up with ALOT of hate from people for oftentimes little reason. Patience of saints for whatever reason.

I personally can thank BHVR for making the new maps looks nice. Although I do not like the layouts or how they play, the visuals for their maps are always insanely well done and look beautiful, and early DBD map design also had this eerie feel which I know will probably never be seen again but it's something I always enjoyed. The art team goes pretty hard with everything they produce.

I'm thankful that we can hold the sprint button to deny being picked up and held hostage in a game where the killer and survivor(s) team up to make my life miserable. The killer wants to pick me up to stop me from bleedng out? I'll just repair a gen in their face. They can't stop me from doing one or the other.

Also thankful for the 6 pages of common charms! I don't use any of them, but I'm sure they look nice in-game...

Oh, and I'm loving the HUD changes showing who's being chased <3

Recently? I'm thankful for Wesker. Best designed killer since Blight. First killer in a long time that I'm actually sitting down and trying to grind the various techs on.

HUD changes. Naisu. Even though I was perfectly fine w/o it and don't even think we need it. Its seriously the only thing I can think of.

The QOL update for solo queue.

Complaints around survivor gameplay are typically so far from my solo experience that it's hard to feel heard. Complaints around gen rushing, or gen perk builds, or toolboxes with BNP. None of that is my reality, it's not something myself or the team mates I get matched with engage in. So it was really nice for the devs to acknowledge the solo experience in amongst all that noise and recognize the reality for alot of us, completely separate from killers and swfs and all that 'them vs us' stuff.

-Happy that they listen to player feedback for the most part and try to make healthy changes to the game.

-made the bloodweb less grindy in cost

-are introducing more cosmetics to other survivors/killlers in upcoming releases and not just the favored few

-try their best to be diversified and inclusive

    -Eruption nerf

    -Hud changes

nothing, i'm just becoming tired/upset of this game/company generally speaking since:

1 map rewok are even worse than their previous version, both aesthetically (the new maps doesn't even have a grim look like the old ones which were darker and more close to the horror atmosphere) and in terms of gameplay (they worsened the situations of the maps by adding stuff that wasn't necessary like breakable doors and despite they have SLIGHTLY nerfed some of the most broken loops in the game, they compensate by adding more pallets and window generally speaking)

2 nerfs to killers/perks that were without logic and no one asked (billy, deathslinger, selfcare, pharmacy, etc etc)

3 the blatant hypocrisy of the devs on certain arguments, both in game stuff and other things that i won't mention here for obvious reasons (you can easily guess tho)

4 they are more concerned about releasing skins than invest some of their resources into new mechanics/game mode and stuff for fighting cheaters (they did something, but that wasn't enough to be considered worth of mention, also do not forget that they opened the gates of hell when they released for free dbd on epic games store) and toxicity (all the proofs that i send to them via screenshots of people who were awfully mean by writing insults, slurs and death threats were are ignored and left unpunished)

5 NFT stuff and other debatable decisions...

i wonder how people can still defend/appreciate a company like this one despite all those issues...

I'm not sure exactly what all of his techs are, but his mimic hug tech seems way harder to pull off. I sadly am doubtful they will come up with a better designed killer for quite a few chapters.

That there is a massive marketing campaing for Onryo right now.

Which means that she might get some overdue buffs, right?

    Right?

Thankful for base kit Borrowed Time. Didn't play much before that, since I was pretty new to the game, but helped a lot.

Thankful for new Lethal Pursuer, that perk is so nice to use now.

For the bots too, they're great to have private games when you don't have a full lobby, despite their quirks.

I'd say thankful for Reassurance but they nuked that one. Still, the intention counts.

They've made a great game that has stood the test of time thus far.

They've also continuously tried to balance what is, in effect, a game which cannot be balanced by its asymmetrical nature.

Most of all, for me, they've continued to put a lot of love, dedication and hard work into a game to please their player base, despite the moaning, entitled, bitching, juvenile responses they've had along the way. There's a difference between constructive criticism and being a twat.

They have made a couple of missteps, such as the nft debacle, but they rode through it. For a game people have said is "dying" for years, it's surprisingly successful.

Ultimately, this has become a genuinely memorable game that will be remembered. It's also a game that has survived years despite one huge factor that they have not been able to change: a toxic fanbase.

    • Solving the DDOSing issue that's been in the game since 2019 and every single time it is brought up they sweep it under the rug
    • Implementing working anti-cheating/hacking measures
    • Balancing all killers so that all of them are roughly the same strength
    • Introducing SBMM that turned SoloQ from a frustrating but occasionally awesome experience into a complete misery fest that makes me want to have my wisdom teeth removed again except without anesthesia this rime around
    • Learning from past mistakes and introducing maps that don't have a ridicious amount of easy to chain god tier loops that force M1 killers to break pallets until the gens are done and hope survivors don't abuse infinites
    • Nerfing anti-tunneling perks and introducing killer bullying perks so that both soloq players and low/mid level killers are miserable to the same extent
    • Encouraging 3 genning so that matches boil down to who gets tired first and not who is the more skillful player

Geeze, the amount of ungreateful, spoiled brats still surprise me. If you think the game is so horrible, why not just stop playing it?

Anyway, I am grateful for the game itself, which is actually very enjoyable and unique, even if there are things to be fixed and sometimes frustrating, it's one of the only multiplayer games I play, with good reason. I am grateful for all the content and attention they have put into several aspects of the game, for the differing killers, which feel very different overall. I feel grateful for their trying to always create new perks or content that somehow change how the game can be played. And I am grateful they are constantly trying to balance and improve everything, despite their ungrateful playerbase.

Except people were complaining about Deathslinger's quickscope on the forum rather frequently back then because Deathslinger players could just scope in and out constantly to force Survivors into a lose lose situation no matter what.

Also map rework being worse or better aesthetically will always be a subjectivity case.

Wesker hug tech is super difficult. I'm not even sure it's possible without uncapped FPS. Other than that he has rebounds, slides, Urobends, and sky techs.

BP economy overhaul, and the perma-unlocking of perks on prestige. Those were excellent changes.

  • Tostapane

The only thing that deathslinger has was that quickscope, and they erased the only feature that make him unique... Without nothing in change to be considered worth of mention... Regarding maps it's subjective as you said, true, but you can't deny that the atmospheres of the maps now are a lot more brighter than once

That doesn't change the fact that alot of people didn't find his quickscope fun nor fair to go against and bhvr reacted accordingly to that feedback, whether or not bhvr did enough to compensate for him losing his quickscope is it's own discussion. Also i'd argue that Deathslinger takes more skill now to land a shot with than he did before.

Current maps may be brighter yes, but that does not necessarily make it a bad thing. imo i genuinely 100% prefer daytime coldwind with it's Texas Chainsaw Massacre aesthetics over the dull and boring brown aesthetics old coldwind had. I'd say the same for all the other reworked maps as well.
