You need to pay for ps+ to play online games so you're already paying for it if you play DBD.

You're not paying any additional money for the game on top of a service you're already paying for to play online games like DBD. If it was not on ps+ you would need to pay an additional $30 (or however much it costs) on top of what you pay for your ps+ service to play online games.
Edit to add: cross progression is only between Steam and Epic, other platforms are not included.

you need to own them on the same platforms. Please note PS4 & PS5 are considered as the same platform in this context.

I was hoping Meet Your Maker would be £20 but was likely going to purchase it for its £25 anyway... anyway I instantly got it after seeing this tweet lol 😁

Do you need to link your account in any way like with Hooked On You? Or is it enough to just own the game on the same platform?

I have the DBD account on Epic Games, whilst MYM is is only available on steam. Do I need to buy DBD on steam as well in order to get the rewards?

yes you need to have MyM and DbD on the same account, same platform - it's not available on Epic. So you would need have both on Steam.

Does anybody know when this goes live? I now have DBD and MYM on my PS5, but the Meg cosmetic doesn’t seem to be automatically appearing anywhere.

I pre-ordered on steam and I launched it about 10 minutes ago and it gave me all the cosmetics. But I don't know if there was something you need to do on console other than just restart the game

Hmmmm… maybe it’s a console problem then. Will see if I can get some others having the same problem to figure out if it’s a me only problem.
