OPEN LETTER: the current state of the game.
Hi.
I’m a Dead by Daylight player since the beginning of 2020. Since I started playing, I always had more fun – and always been better at it – when playing as a killer.
I remember sending a message to Behaviour around 2021 (I don’t know when, exactly) and also making a telephone call (international phone call, because I don’t live in Canada(!)); I was really upset with the game. I don’t remember everything I was arguing about, but I remember my main arguing: Behaviour Interactive – and all the others that might be involved – are creating a legion of bad losers.
Since I saw the game was going down/bad, I stopped playing it for a really long time. My conclusion was crystal clear: “I have tons of triple A superb games, why am I gonna waste my time with a extremely broken game that I play for free because it’s on Xbox Game Pass?”. Anyways. After 2021 I remember playing it again in one brief period in the second semester of 2022 (one week or two), and I came back to the game again now – march 2023.
The thing is, since I started playing (2020), I was always good as a killer (I was always tier 1 in the ranking, when the ranking was still public), I always played with the same killer and with the same perks.
In 2022, I played with some different perks because the game was getting “hard” with the perks I was used to, but I could still keep myself killing all the survivors in the majority of the matches I played.
I have a lot of killers and a lot of perks (some were bought with real money), and the problem is not that I have “few killers and few perks”, the problem is that Behaviour is been making the game extremely easy for the survivors — and painful/annoying/broken for the killers.
Don’t you ask yourself why a lot of people stopped playing as a killer? It is unbearable.
It came to my attention that Dead by Daylight is now a game for crying babies and bad losers. I don’t like using this sort of description, but there’s no other way to describe the current state of the game. That’s my final conclusion at the moment.
While I was playing — now on march 2023 —, I noticed a lot of terrible things happening:
- Generators are being completed in a blink of an eye, even when I’m playing with a full set of anti-generators perks. In other words, even with 4 perks to “slow down” generations, they are being completed stupidly fast. I never seen this aberration before.
- The hex totems (all of them) are being positioned in a extremely stupid way/place. They are literally there for being found by any survivor in the first minute of the match. Same thing applies to ‘no one escapes death’ (NOED). And the survivors can still see the totem’s aura when they’re near it? Oh, please. It’s beyond the limits of easiness — for the survivors. Survivors should have to search for hex totems relying only on visuals (without any aura).
- What happened to the perk ‘dead hard’ (from David King)? I’m from a time when ‘dead hard’ gave the survivors a boost/impulse forward. Now the perk ‘dead hard’ makes the player literally invulnerable; even when the perk shouldn’t work (because the killer is literally side by side with the survivor, with not enough distance/space for the ‘dead hard’ impulse), the survivor can still use it and get rid of the killer attack. The previous ‘dead hard’ was “okay” for both sides (killer and survivors); the new one is broken and unbalanced (it’s too powerful for the survivors). When I first saw it in a match, at first I thought it was some ridiculous new survivor perk, then I immediately checked the survivors perks at the end of the match (and also searched the web) and I found out that that aberration was the “new” ‘dead hard’.
- You nerfed a lot of perks and add-ons from The Pig (and probably from the other killers as well), but have you nerfed the perks and add-ons from the survivors too? The answer to this question is a big ‘no’, obviously. It’s pretty explicit that you improved the survivors perks (as I just mentioned in ‘dead hard’) and nerfed the killers perks.
- There are a lot of perks that are ridiculous leaned to have more benefits for the survivors. I just mentioned ‘dead hard’, but another great example of this is ‘dying light’ (from Michael Myers): the survivor (obsession) has a boost/benefit of 33% since the start of the game; meanwhile, for the killer to achieve the same 33% of benefits, he/she has to put survivors on the hook for 11 times (11 tokens); considering a killer can only put survivors in hook for 12 times (4 survivors x 3 hooks each), what is the point of having 33% benefits (the same amount of the survivor/obsession) only when the match is in the end and/or there’s only one generator left to be done or all the generators are done already? It doesn’t make any sense. It is another proof that Behaviour are slanted to bring more benefits for the survivors.
- I updated my game on march 22nd, 2023 on the Xbox Series X, and noticed that the killer perk ‘Hex: Pentimento’ (from The Artist) was nerfed. Now I cannot see the broken hexes/totems around the map (with a white aura). I literally started using this perk in the week before the game update (I’m not joking), to try something new and to try to “get around” and “overpass” all the nerfs in the killers perks, and the devs already nerfed it! Now do you understand why I’m saying this game is turning into garbage?! It’s unbelievable and unbearable.
Before I posted this, I’ve read a lot of other feedbacks and suggestions here, and I know for sure that I’m not the only person complaining about all these issues.
With all that being said, Behaviour is extremely lucky that the game is on Xbox Game Pass. Otherwise, I really doubt that a lot of people would pay for a game in this broken and totally unbalanced state. Speaking for myself, I would not pay 1 cent for this game (when/if it eventually leaves Xbox Game Pass).
I already bought a lot of things in the game with real money, but my conclusion right now is that I’ll never pay 1 cent for anything else on this game again. They don’t deserve a single penny.
I’m not here to say “fix this” or “fix that”; I’m here just to give this sincere and honest feedback, and to release my feelings and thoughts about the current state of the game. I’m not hoping nor expecting anything from this game or the developers anymore. If the devs have some decency, they will try to make the game balanced again. If they don’t do anything, it will be just a simple matter of time until their complete downfall.

They haven't nerfed the Hex Pentimento, you were likely being affected by blindness via residual manifest or they booned the totem instead of cleansing it.
Dying Light doesn't effect the Obs repair speed, only all other actions.
The Pig Nerfs are well known, honestly they don't make much sense, they did buff one of the addons recently.
The new dead hard is actually easier to bait out on some players, others however will hold it till loops or pallets or until you lunge, it will be receiving a change to make it where survivors who have dead hard won't have it trigger until after they get a safe unhook.
Hex Totems aren't actually in stupid places, the problem is that we all know of the possible hex spawn locations for each map after playing for dozens of times to the point where hexs can get cleansed easily. What sucks is when you get it in a guaranteed totem spot, as that is checked every time by the survivors.
As for gens getting completed super quickly? Survivors are learning how to play. Most survivors have learned that splitting up gens is actually a smart idea so once you finish your first chase? 2 to 3 gens will be either close to popping, or popped. And if you interrupt one, another is still popping, the survivor hud allows the survs to have confidence on what they need to do.
Things are in a much better state for killer than they were, and it is hard to win against a SWF with a good looper, or you get a map with six chain loops, or they abuse the infinite in Garden of Joy. It feels like its harder as killer, but in reality it is a lot easier. The best advice I can give you is the PICK YOUR CHASE! By that I mean ignoring the first person you fine and focusing on interrupting someone on a gen, depending on how you found that first person they may want you to chase them or they may be exploring for something other than a gen, regardless they are not on a gen so your target should be pressure, so find a gen being progressed and interrupt it by chasing the survivor that was on it.
