Why is Artist so rare?

In terms of killers to play, Carmina Mora has flip flopped with Spirit as my top 2 favorites for a long time. I love Artist’s ability and she has potential for some of the most satisfying plays, like going for long range double hits, shotgun crows, and even hitting two survivors at once with the Severed Hands add on. I just really love playing her and think she’s cool, might even get her to P100 once I’ve finished achieving that with Rin.

This leads me to the question, why is she so rare? I feel like I’m some psychopath for maining a killer that is this uncommon. The fact the Knight and Skull Merchant are more common is a little concerning to me. I get not liking playing against her despite me also finding her fun to go against, but why not to play as? I mean she’s one of the strongest killers and like I said above has great potential for amazing plays. Is it the skill ceiling? Skill floor? Just not fun to most people? What is it?

Also please update pfps on the forums , I want to flip flop between Rin and Carmina.

    I completely forgot Knight has a time I won’t lie. I guess that’s all fair, maybe I am just a psychopath 🫠

Because she's an ugly poopy bird lady that doesn't know how to shut up. If she learned to close her mouth, more would play her.

I think its because she leads to boring gameplay on both sides. If you place birds at a loop the survivors just shift W. At least with spirit its a mindgame

Sadly many people don't wanna learn her or play her the boring way till they're sick of her. We love being able too set up stylish or long distance downs but get others don't want to put in the effort.

It is sad honestly. I find her so fun to go against too despite what others think about her. It does get tiring playing against Wesker every game even though he’s got that S+++++ tier chase music and he’s a fun killer. Just wanna see my girl Carmina more :(

Because she's not so strong as people think (w shift and she will never catch you unless you do a lot of mistakes) and she feels EXTREMELY clunky to use

Speaking as someone who was very excited about her but doesn't play her anymore... her gameplay just didn't pan out for me.

Using her power mid chase to scare others off gens is incredibly difficult an will make your chases take forever.

Using 1 bird for chase and 1 for harass doesn't work because that makes your cooldown long enough that the crows will get shooed before you can fire again.

Using birds 1 by 1 in chase is just boring because either the survivor runs away or gets put in a lose lose situation where either they cross the pallet or window you birded and you hit them by launching it or they don't and you get an easy M1.

I wanted to love playing as her... but I just can't.

I think the majority of the playerbase finds her boring and she's also difficult to play well against good survivors (though she's a very strong killer if you're willing to put the time into her). I like her too, but I understand why a lot of players don't.

It is massively unsatisfying when a killer usually needs to hit their power twice, but there is a incredibly strict window of time to do this. Artist needs to almost immediately set up a 2nd shot after the 1st shot lands, and if the 2nd shot misses, then Artist has completed wasted all the time it took to set up and fail the two shot combo.

In general, if a killer spends time hitting with a power, but the survivor easily undoes the progress, it feels really bad. Crow repelling needs to be way longer than it currently is, for me to even bother trying her again.

Survivors getting swarmed isn’t just for getting a second hit with another set of crows, it can be great aura reading as well. It helps with generic mind games too.

I very much enjoy playing her. While difficult, using birds to get downs is quite an endorphin rush for me, much like getting back to back hatchets with Huntress. She may not be the best in chase when holding W, but the mapwide pressure can be pretty strong when running Aura builds.

She's only strong when played in a boring way as her power incentivises camping and hard tunneling and she's not very good at just going for chases.

I can tell you the reason I don't play her very often. She's one of the few killers in the game where I feel like I need to use her power perfectly to get value out of it. The window of time in which you can damage a swarmed survivor always feels so small, to the point where if I'm even a fraction of a second off I don't deal damage. I still play her every now and again cause I like to play a different killer every match, but she's one of my least played for that reason. I legit play Twins more often than her.

She's my main and i prefer using her power from all ranges, Long shots, shotgun, 2 in 1 hits, even use them to punish healing underhook while chasing someone else.

Servered Hands is my favourite addon and it's in play on every match i do, usually followed by the mangled addon.

I was a Clown Main before and i've never looked back tbh, switched as soon as she left the PTB, just got so tiring of having to deal with every pallet, usually pre dropped and by the time i down or start another chase with someone else, practically lose because of the time invested revolving around that every chase.

And yeah, her potential is amazing.

Here's some of my favourite hits / downs with her birds on some matches i recorded.

The most effective way to play her is the most boring one for all 5 people involved.

I dislike her because her chase music gives me a headache.

Also all her sounds are really annoying.

I’m aware of what her crow swarming does. It still doesn’t help the fact that chaining two crow attacks is way too strict and unforgiving to be fun.

Carmina is a pretty strong killer but I think her powers come with a learning curve that people don’t really want to deal with. Additionally, her skins aren’t super intriguing. I know some people find her noises (the bird sounds) off-putting as well,

her power is readible and counterintuitive as to how you'd use it.

if you fire 2 birds at the same person even if they're delayed you won't down that person or even injure them.

birds are easy to remove and the time to do so even with the best addons still doesn't provide enough time for a follow up shot - and unlike doctor, birds can be removed while running.

the range for pallet traps conflicts with the actual bird idle time. so there are very few pallets and windows you can trap consistently. most survivors will see you place it and bait the launch - since artist's movement gets slowed while she summons crows. this will also reset bloodlust. so there's no risk to the survivor as far as waiting goes.

all of this basically compounds into a killer that is very lackluster due to the ability not synergizing with her playstyle.

She's kinda boring. Just another anti loop killer. Also the constant screeching is awful.

Her power becomes repetitive real fast imo. Also, strength has never been a major factor for a killer's popularity. Artist and Twins have never been close to be as used as Legion and Wraith. People play what they enjoy above all else. Tier whores definitely exist but they'll never be the majority.

Because she has to put in a lot of work to get the same results as killers who are easier to play

Not entirely sure. I have theories but they're all speculative.

I'd play her a lot more, personally, if she got a special sound effect for hitting survivors with crossmap birds (similar to Huntress).

I personally love Artist and she is my main killer since I started playing right before her release.

    It's a number of factors I think.

    a. She requires a ton of decision-making skill and lots of people would rather turn their brains off.

    b. Her chase music is not liked by some players (I personally love it although I'll admit it's slightly too loud).

    c. Skill differential matters a ton when playing her; weaker survivors are absurdly easy to down at times, but she has very little in the way of catch-up potential if she falls behind because chases are taking too long.

So unless you're very good with her and know all of her fun tricks she can feel very underwhelming.
