(chaf)finch friday
Or, as my mother puts it, the bird that goes “toodeloodeloo, biscuit”
2 -
There are a few beautiful American Golden finches that go to my bird feeder.
I see them at my feeder a lot but they're skittish AF and always take off if I move towards the window with my camera.

important: tame ravens wag their tails when excited

Hm… I have that a lot too. Most of ‘our’ birds are off the moment they see movement.
Only the tits allow me to get close—I once opened the curtains to a blue tit sitting right next to the window, and we just stared at each other for a moment before we both went to do our thing. Not sure what we did for them to get like that, since our street has quite a few “outdoor” cats that do occassionally take a swipe at them.
On the complete opposite side, the one that I really wish I could get on camera is the eurasian jay. It always just makes a quick landing, snatches a whole peanut and is off again.

I bought a local bird guide from the local bird shop (where I buy all my seed and whatnot) and I've been trying to identify the birds using the guide. Although I do commonly run into that same problem that when I begin to move, the birds fly away so it's been a little tricky at times...
I got a bit of a new setup for my feeders now too. The f'ing squirrels kept getting up there and they actually broke the tube feeder (the green one on the right). I had bought the big (supposedly) squirrel proof one on the left to replace it (that cage falls down if anything heavier than like...2 pounds is on it so it stays up with birds because they're light but closes with squirrels) so I do intend to replace the green one on the right with the big circle one that I've had in my pictures before (the squirrels were just so easily able to get into it that I took that one down for now. You may also be able to see that the pole is moved back from the house and the squirrel cone is WAY higher now so once I confirm this works against those little bastards, I'll make the switch.
Also I have those little butterflies now all over my window because they're actually reflectors. The poor birds kept smacking into my window so the reflectors help break up the reflection they see (so now they can tell that's a window and not more "bird feeders" for them to fly at).

Sounds like a SEEHUND SAMSTAG (for Europe)

Blizzard has been adopted. Which I'm a bit surprised they let her go without Blizzard but I suppose they're young enough that there should be no problem moving Frosty solo.
Three kitties left!

It is now all anti squirrel cages cause the little bastards broke another normal feeder
I also put out a hummingbird feeder as well cause I think hummingbirds are cool AF so hopefully we'll get some pics. Last year I didn't buy it was put up mid-season and friggin ants were all over it

love the feeders! we have a million around our house, i just cant get enough of seeing lil critters munching away outside my windows

I wouldn't mind the damn squirrels so much except that they eat WAY more seed than the birds do (so it gets expensive and I have to constantly refill the seed) and they've already broken two bird feeders because the fat bastards either break pieces off or them jumping off the pole knocks them down.
The Anti Squirrel Suet feeder (The one with the bricks of food in it) isn't working well as they just hang onto the pole and grab. I'm doing a bit of...extreme measures to stop them (I'm honestly hoping it doesn't hurt any squirrels as that's not my desire at all but they seem to be smart enough to know where they can and can't land; I've taped a bunch of nails to the squirrel baffle to take away their landing spot). If I do end up with hurt (or even dead) squirrels, I'll take them down but at least for now, the squirrels do seem to recognize that they can't jump from my window onto the baffle anymore.
