if they do go for the making an existing character gay, i hope its not yui and is more surprising

I just want to point out that "girl crush" in Japan/Korean music is not literally a crush on a girl. It's a concept (song, clothes, styling) that is created to appeal to female fans. So Yui's Girl Crush set is not really a hint at anything.

I would, however, be delighted to have Yui join the Sapphic team.

We'll probably find out in June

Seems to be when BHVR prefers to mention the topic/make announcements about it

Well someone pointed out how david hasn’t gotten any outfits since he came out. Idk if that correlates with eachother. However i dont think the community would react well if they revealed exsiting survivors as trans. I think the twin survivors would have been fine tho. But older characters i dont think so. Like for example kate. I doubt the community would be happy with that one. I would be honest I wouldn’t be happy with that either. I think new character is the way to go for a trans survivor. For being homosexual yeah an existing character can still work. I know it might sound bad but these are just my honest thoughts

David had an outfit during the last holiday event which took place after he came out.

The problem with cosmetics is they keep adding survivors to the game but don't seem to increase the cosmetic budget each year to make up for it. So when they budget for 50 survivor cosmetics, 3 characters each get 10 cosmetics and that leaves the rest getting 1 or none. They (unfortunately) tend to focus on characters that have higher pick rates and Felix being the other "hot male survivor" was already cutting into David's pick rate before his tome came out.

David Kings tome story (and and the tweet) came out in April 22, so your statement is not true at all

I'd like it if they released a character and establish them to be LGBT from the getgo. I'm not a fan of retroactively applying it to characters to first make sure the character is liked. It's playing it safe in a way that makes me raise a brow the same way BMW selectively changes their logo to a rainbow one in social media accounts that aren't in the Middle East.

It's not like making such a character is a daring thing anymore. We've had massive franchises with characters like this, eg. Last of Us, Mass Effect, Fallout, Elden Ring, the new Harvest Moon games, etc. Not really a risky move to make these characters anymore so I don't understand the extremely corporate approach of withholding such aspects of characters from the start.

I'm ultimately indifferent either way. I've had my representation where it mattered already and I'm content with how those were handled. So long as the character is good, I'm fine with anything.

It'd be great to get a trans character.

Related, I still would love to get Jamie Clayton's hell priest as a skin+voice for the Cenobite. I thought the new Hellraiser was pretty middling overall, but she was one of the high points and I loved her in that role.

    Hence why i said 'Probably'

The logic being the pride charms released in June, and that's when BHVR does their pride themed events (livestreams and such) so maybe they might release content that is related to it in the same month because BHVR likes to release thematic content at the same time usually

I never said it was objectively true lol

Exactly. Last I checked, real world crows can't rescue a woman who throws herself off a bridge in an attempt to unalive herself. I mean, maybe it's happened and just I didn't see the news report.

Yeah, the movie did a poor job, though to be fair while the book did explain better, its definitely IMO one of those cases of "Can we just not do this story at all because the wrong people are going to misunderstand it" and that's basically what happened.

For an RPG that allows you to create your own character from scratch? Sure. Mass Effect allows you to do this. You can play a Male Commander Shepard or a Female Commander Shepard. You can romance Liara or Ashley if you are male, Liara or Kaiden if you are female (Kaiden is added for males in 3.) That's great, and for an RPG it works. But this is not that type of game. Even the Resident Evil series is a specific story about Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, etc. As fictional characters written and created to tell a specific story, they have a gender and sexuality. Bringing them, or any original survivor BHVR makes, doesn't change that.

I can see Ace being bi. Thalita too.

Yui being lesbian feels a bit obvious, I guess? Breaking tradition is her theme. By all means, it would fit.

Claudette could be ace. Though there’s very little to go off with her. Zarina strikes me as ace as well, though that’s nothing more than a gut feeling.

Would love a trans character, though I think that would be done best with a character with no established childhood.

aren't there infinitely many variants of each survivor in the trials? like a multiverse?

Does it really matter? I mean at some point there probably will be another lgbt survivor but changing an existing one just for the sake of adding another one would feel a bit cheap, wouldn't it?

I think we shouldn't force this and instead wait for it to happen naturally. That way BHVR would have the freedom to do it the right way.

Totally pointless exercise in speculation. Without specific voice lines or animation it could be literally be any character at all. Calling a character gay trans whatever is doing it for the sake of it. Look at overwatch 2 and the new character. Created specifically to fill a void. So it it's not a new character in dbd then it's not really representative of anything other than saying hey look we've got a ..................... character.

Not at all, why would you say that? It’s just a normal topic, the devs already confirmed there will be more LGBTQ+ representation after all..

No it doesn’t matter. Though it wouldn’t be changing any existing ones as no one is really 100 % confirmed either way. Not even David is confirmed ‚gay‘ iirc, though it’s heavily implied.

… or the creators wanted to creator such a character and write about them. There are plenty of LGBTQ+ people and allies on the dev team and they do care about this topic

Eh, I'd assume they already had these few chapters planned so I'd guess if they did it, it at least be 3 or more chapters. So like end of year into next.

As for the other characters, they already did the vote and decided David was their best choice so I don't know about going back and making one of the others LGBT.

I mean, yes to an extent. However, I would say that just because there is a world out there where Susie stole a hoodie with the Year of the Rat from a shop in China doesn't necessarily mean that her entire gender and sexuality is 100% fluid. As I said, this is not a "create your own character" game. The characters still have their lore. Heck, there is a fan theory one Youtuber did that Meg is actually a variant of Susie.
