As killer: what is the proper etiquette if a survivor is afk at the beginning of the match? Do you go slug them and leave, hit them once and leave, ignore them and chase the teammate, down them and hook them?
As killer: do you give the last survivor hatch if they stop wiggling on your shoulders/is the last one left or do you fight for the 4k?
As survivor: what is the proper etiquette when you open the exit gate? Do you farm with the killer? Offer your item? Do the butt dance to rub it in?
For both: if a survivor disconnects do you show mercy and farm or just finish the game as quickly as possible?
For both: if a survivor offers their item do you show mercy or hook them regardless?
For me if I am playing a low tier killer I go for the early hook otherwise I ignore the afk survivor, show mercy if a disconnect happens/an item is offered, and only worry about a 3k
and as a survivor I leave as soon as my teammates are safe(sometimes I leave my item behind) and if a disconnect happens I usually farm with the killer depending on how many gens we have done as a team.

There is no "proper" etiquette in any pvp game that anyonehas to oblige.
Anything goes, as long as it's within the rules.
Everything else is personal preference and behaviour one would HOPE to see but isn't entitled to.

There is no defined proper etiquette, merely the standards you hold yourself to. For myself, I feel that I am doing Survivors a disservice if I am not trying to win.
As Killer: I will pretty much always hook them. I understand that life happens though, so I'm not gonna hard tunnel them out or anything.
As Killer: I very rarely gift Hatch. I don't like being gifted Hatch either. However, if someone really impressed me or if I feel like they got screwed over in some way, they'll get it for BP.
As Survivor: Depends on the player. If they've been playing hard, tunneling off of first hook, hard camping etc etc, I figure they can handle a couple of bags. If they've been chill, I'll give them my item, if I have one and then leave immediately.
For both: It depends. If it was a genuine DC (like internet dropped) then I'll farm. If they rage DC, I'll just finish the match ASAP. As Survivor, I'm usually looking to just go next.
For both: I don't expect to be spared and I don't generally spare people either.

As killer: if theyre afk and im getting noise notification im downing and hooking because that bothers me.
As killer: i will give hatch if i find it on the way to hook. Im not wasting time lapping the place looking for hatch.
Surv: I will wait until team is safe, then leave. If team is in chase or on hook I'll risk it all for them because you don't learn anything without a challenge.
For both: finish game asap. Maybe give last escape if they played well

I tend to go by my own rules when it comes to this, but I'll explain my think:
1 Afk survivor: I'll hit them once then leave. A reminder to them that another killer would have easily taken them.
2. Hatch: Depends on how I feel really, but in the end unless the hatch spawns right next to me I normally go to the hook. No point in stretching the game out for both of us. Just end it so we can go to the next one.
3. Gates: I will wait for other survivors or go to help in many cases. If NOED triggers, I'll scan safely for the totem but if not I'll then leave. If a killer sees me at the gate and waits, depending on how the game went I may offer my item as a sign of respect, or if the killer clearly was screwed by matchmaking it will more likely be a peace offering to show understanding that this was rather unfair. I hardly ever teabag unless the killer has shown disrespect to me (by this, I mean pretending to hump me if I'm downed, hitting on the hook and just bming whilst I'm down). Camping or tunneling, whilst unfun, is not a bm and I won't teabag for that.
4. Disconnect: As killer, if this is done early I'll hook every survivor twice and after that any who haven't dc'd or killed themselves I'll let them go. Otherwise, I consider it a kill and play as normal. As survivor, I play to the end. I don't expect mercy from the killer and just treat it as hard mode. This has been known to annoy a couple of killers in post-game chat for some odd reason .. guess those couple of players were a bit odd.
5. Gift Item: As killer, it again depends. The survivor hasn't earned a free escape by dropping an item and it's not them trying to be nice. It's just a bartering technique. It means more to me as killer if they leave the item after the gates are open and they clearly are going to escape. As survivor, I only do it if the killer hints at it. A demogorgon chased me and cornered me, but then looked at my First Aid kit and swiped to imply I put it down. I was gonna die anyway, so did it. Demo gave me the escape.
Etiquette in this game is subjective, so I don't feel there's a real guide as to what to do, except don't deliberately piss off the other side unless it's to distract them away from an injured survivor.

Afk survivor in the beginning: gets farmed if I have a power that needs to be "powered up", then downed and hooked. After that I play as usual. If I find them with afk crows under the hook later on I just slap them and leave them there; they aren't hurting me and they're at least Benevolent-points-fodder for their teamies.
Last surv: if they weren't being super toxic or i don't have a 4k archive I let them go by default. I usually shoo them off so they search for hatch and I go break stuff that's left on the map and that I didn't break.
Open exit gate: depends on what vibes I get. If killer seems to be done with the match I just leave and just for good measure leave my item if I had one. If killer is at exit gates but staying outside I usually view that as an invitation to goof off for a little - and that's what I do. I then usually leave my item, give them one polite nod and leave.
Upon DC: Try to end the match asap while ensuring everyone got a chance to black pip as killer. As surv I try to do enough to black pip as well / do whatever for archives if possible. If the dc was very early and there's no way to win the match I just go find the killer, have a last chase and then excuse myself from the match.
Survivor item: As killer the last surv dropping their item is sth I find rather cute (I mean, I'd give them hatch anyway ^^). If it's not the last I usually shake my head, give them a missed M1 headstart after they picked it back up and proceed to chase. Exception: it's a key. I assume they have one of those annoying archives and are desperate to just get it over with. I oblige if I got the sense they contributed to the match. As surv I drop the item as the last and see what happens - often enough killers are up for some meme-ing / goofing around.

Don't think there is etiquette in DbD. Just how you personally choose to handle things.
For afk survivors i usually just hit once and leave. Recently i did have a funny interaction where i found a afk survivor and just stared in their face. It was pretty funny when they suddenly started nodding.
I generally give the last survivor hatch but it depends.
Generally when i open the gates i leave. Maybe stay behind for a bodyblock but other then that i skidaddle
I wish i could finish the game asap on a dc but i feel bad. So i try to get everyone on deadhook atleast before killing/letting them go to give them atleast some chance. This would be easier if there were hookcounters for the killer BHVR >:(
For gift item it depends. More often then not it will let me be more mercifull

I kill the afk survivor as soon as i can. I play both sides, and i dont want these guys in my survivor matches, so put them back in mmr hell.
For the rest, it depends on them. I usually hook everybody twice, and then start to slug. if i get them all, and they tried to do gens and didnt teabagg, i let them all go.

- Depends on if they booped (Pig only) or if they were taunting me with a flashlight and teabagging the entire match.
- Depends on how the match went, but if the killer was sporting and didn't camp or tunnel, then sometimes I'll leave a "gift".
- With how often survivors get salty and disconnect the second their ego is hurt, no mercy from me as killer nor do I expect it as survivor.
- Depending on how they played up to that point. At the very least if I saw a White Ward then I might shake my head no and let them pick it back up.

As a survivor main, my opinion is that it is totally at the discretion of the Killer. Any courtesy showed is purely good will on their part and I appreciate it when shown but I don’t think “wow what a terrible person” if they don’t. I’m aware that everyone had their own situation (might need the bp or doing a challenge).
If someone gives hatch, or let’s or escape, I’ll express my gratitude but I won’t come on the forums to complain if they don’t.
I’m much more upset if I’m subjected to bad manners such as slugging just to taunt or pretend to give exit and then kill me at the last second anyway but even then I’ll feel upset inside but life on. It is what it is. I’ve died a billion times in this game so one more death won’t kill me.. erm well it will but you know what I mean lol
My advice is do what you feel is appropriate at your your discretion based on your own thoughts at the time.
Just be aware that even one show of good will can promote positive behaviour for all. I’ve had killers who I’ve also tried to give hooks and kills to it by the end game they did their best but were outmatched (possibly MMR mismatch). Half of my friends on my in game list and discord server is people who killed me but were nice about it or they were so far better than me they showed mercy and even ‘trained’ me on looping (I’m still rubbish lol).
But it is totally discretionary on your part.

Depends on a lot. Just in general, my games are 3k, let the last out via hatch/gate (someone has to live to tell the tale lol). Survivor behavior doesn't really bother me with the exception of being a crappy teammate to each other. Sandbagging, leaving a survivor on hook that can easily be saved, dropping a pallet on a survivor I'm chasing and trapping them with me will all earn a guaranteed sacrifice. DCs or unaliving on hook means I'll generally go for putting everyone on death hook and letting them go if it was early enough and created an impossible situation for them.
AFKs, I'll usually hold back and give them until three crows. Then I either hook them or if a loss doesn't hurt me too bad on pips, I'll "backpack" the survivor. Throw them on my shoulder and start goofing around with the rest of the team. I'll even kick them out of the gate at the end as their bewilderment at getting out amuses me. Items will sometimes buy a pass depending on how I'm feeling, but too many survivors just pick it right back up again, defeating the point. If I have a challenge that requires a 4k or I need 4ks for my final pips in Iri ranks, the all bets are off.
As survivor, I never bag, and I'm out of the gate asap. I'll stick around long enough to ensure that everyone that has a reasonable chance of getting out is out, but I don't need to interact with the killer before I go next.

Your fun is not my priority, which is why I find the least experienced survivor, hook them, hit them on hook, nod and shake at any mistake they make in chase, then playfully insult them in postgame chat.
If they leave post game chat before I get there, I make sure to leave them a pleasant message on their steam page with some pointers to what they should improve at.

It's more "personal" than "proper" but:
- Hatch goes to those that earn our respect or 4% off hook
- Stay till we know everyone we want out has made it to doors (not necessarily out). Someone sandbagging all game will be left for the killers mercy.
- Play as normal, maybe lighten up a little if it's not a rage DC. As killer we're not in charge of how your team acts. As survivor we don't expect any mercy anyway.
- Depends on our mood. Usually it's a single mercy pass.

No matter what you do, someone will always be unhappy with this situation. Just do what you feel like.

In short, don't play in a way that you'd hate someone doing against you (other than just general winning strategies like looping well etc). If you play killer and hate the idea of being facecamped as a survivor don't do it. If you play survivor and know would hate playing killer against someone exploiting a dead zone in the game, don't do it.
There's a lot more specifics but just play in a way you'd be okay having someone do against you

that is the beauty of this game were people can play it how they see fit and showing goodwill is welcome (i do the same thing with hooks if the killer was obviously struggling; at the very least let them get some points)

i just feel bad for the rest of the survivor team if the dc happens as soon as they hear a killer's aura they don't like. I let the rest of the survivors at least get a safety pip if they want it.

Neither do I, honestly. Thought they might enjoy a bit of a challenge. It's only happened twice that I remember, but it's still odd to have a Hag eventually down me and do nothing except message me how "I am in their world now" or something equally odd.

I've always viewed playing DBD as playing a role in a slasher flick.
I mean if playing killer then ask yourself what would Michael Myers/Letherface/Freddy Kruger/Ghostface etc do?
If playing survivor then what would my character do in this scenario?

As killer: If it was a great match I do give them a hatch. And by great I mean exciting with chases and also progress on their end as well as on mine. To see they almost won but it didn't happen because they probably made a couple of mistakes. If t-bagging or flashy-flashy is involved where they seek to get my attention or just be rude they will never get a hatch.
As survivor: Farm? You mean healing at the end? I stay as long as I can unless I'm the last survivor. Standing at the gate even when injured is a distraction. Killers approach me and I leave. This might give the remaining team members precious seconds to unhook / survive. I help the others to heal. I never t-bag. I don't annoy the killer. I offer an item only when I'm let go.
DC: Yes, I show mercy but again it depends on the match. If there are 2 DCs I immediately offer the escape to the rest. If only one DC occurs I play the match as usual but let the last one go.
Offer: If it is a desperate attempt for them to leave I hook. An example: someone made fun of me while using the Artist on Midwich. Eventually, I managed to hold 3 gens. She approached me with an offer... I gave Nea a smack and hooked along with the rest of the team. I don't need an item to offer the hatch. If I catch people just after opening the gate I often allow them to leave. Most of the time I receive an offer as a token of their gratitude.

that part is true but it is pretty hard to depip as a killer unless you get no hooks for the most part...if the dcs are early you get your gatekeeper maxed and you should be able to get enough chases

It was odd. Worse for them because they would say "You'll die when I say" and I'm replying "Not really. I'll bleed out in a bit. I'm really in control because I have the limit". They got more annoyed from that, but that was a really weird thing for them to be doing.

- The survivor has made the choice to queue up for the game they were absent for, and is tantamount to DCing. If they get instantly killed, they deserved it.
- The other survivors don't deserve to have a team member quit immediately, just like DCers or those who give up on hook, and as the killer, it is within your power to keep them in the game a little longer.
Therefore what I usually do, is down and hook them immediately, but then leave them alone for a while. Other survivors get to farm an unhook and a heal off them. I will then continue to play normally, as if that AFK survivor isn't there, for a while at least until (if) the survivors gain a lead in gens, in which case I will go reap my AFK survivor for the hook, likely baiting another survivor out who wants to farm another unhook, and eliminate the chance of them returning late game for a comeback play. If the survivors don't gain a lead and I dominate because 3v1, then I'll leave the AFKer alone until it becomes a hindrance to the other survivors, e.g. there's two left, I'll eliminate the AFKer and give hatch to the last survivor. (unless I need the 4K for a challenge ofc, but that's rare)

Depends on how quickly they repair the remaining generators and how high your rank is AN how often it happens. Its just a reaon why depipping needs to go.

yeah i depiped as trapper yesterday at iri ranks because 2 escaped and i didn't get enough hooks (which oddly enough i was going for hooks and trying to play fairly all match)
pretty sure bnps are being looked at right now since they break the games balances heavily

yeah if there are hooks nearby why not just end the game earlier? waiting another 4 minutes instead of getting into another game in that same time just makes more sense (more bp, more interactivity, better value for your game time, etc.)

Down and put em on the meat hook. Soft camp until a teammate arrives.

Put em on the meat hook and smack them a few times to wish them good luck on their next game

Sit close to the exit, T-bag, and point at the killer repeatedly. Do a few spins while crouch spamming, Maybe a saucy 360 when they swing to hit you out. It's sweeter when they whiff the hit inside the exit too.

Show no mercy for 2 hook states on each survivor and then take the foot off the gas. Farm, but make it inconspicuous. Never let them know your next move.

Shake your head and down them because they didn't give boopers. Items are for now, but boops are forever.

As someone who has never been higher than Gold (and lucky to make silver) due to the inconsistency of games (and I am by no means new, I have 2475 hours as of this post) and always depipping soon as I have a few good games, I feel for you.
So again, this whole "Getting to Iri 1 isn't about how well you do, it's how much you play" is not true and never will be true until depipping is removed.

Not sure how you can apply etiquette to a situation where supernatural killers are mudering innocent survivors lol.
Ppl gonna play how they like, everybody will react differently and you'll never get the playerbase to subscribe to a certain code.
As killer, personally I'll always take the first free hook from an afk survivor. Down them with my power for more bp plus it gives the other survs opportunity for bo with unhooks and heals then leave it for a bit see if they come back. Im also a bit of a softie, I'm prone to sparing survs, usually let the last one or two go, especially if there was a DC. and I'm a sucker for being offered a gift and will usually spare survs who do so, unless they've been particularly toxic early game.
As surv once the gate is open I'll stick around to help with unhooks or to get some healing bp but I'm not one for teabagging out a killer as I leave. Partially because I don't like to be toxic, partially becuase no one likes to get caught out by blood warden.

I don't play survivor so I have no input there.
I came up on an AFK yesterday at the beginning on the match. As I was looking at her she began to nod her head saying she's there. She offered her med kit, I said no, she picked it back up and I left to find someone else. Had she not nodded I would've downed her.
Hatch. It completely depends on how I'm feeling at the moment but if it's obviously a new player then yeah, I give them the hatch.
DC: Depends on if I think, emphasis on I think, they DC because of me. If so then no mercy. If it seemed random then I'll let them have it.
Offering an item. It depends on the circumstance. If they're offering it because they know that they've been beaten then I'll hook/kill them. If they're offering as a trade for not hooking, hook it is. Sometimes they will offer an item to finish a gen and I'll accept. I ran noed, blood warden, and no way out during a match. It ended with two survivors trapped at the gates. Both of them offered their items and I killed them both.
Something I personally do... Once the gens are powered I open the gates. I don't enjoy playing during the EGC at all unless I'm running an end game build.
