Why is dcing seen as a bad thing?
Dcing sometimes yes does ruin a game especially if it’s a survivor but it’s not wrong if they aren’t enjoying it right? I don’t dc and I can understand someone getting tunneled or camped just decided to dc. Dcing because you last 2 seconds in chase is different though.

Because the DC button is usually meant for actual reasons not "oh im not having fun" but no way to check for that so.... Also the fact that if someone gets face camped first down and dc 20 seconds in that just blunders the entire chance for their team to actually get some people out.

If it was meant for actual reasons then there shouldn’t be a punishment because you had to go take care of something

The punishment will most likely expire by the time that issue is resolved, assuming you don’t DC often.

Don't q up just to dc

If there are scenarios that will make you dc, then don't queue up. Especially something as common as tunneling.
I really can't express enough how this is the only community I have been apart of in a long time where dcing is acceptable. This isn't cod, I can't 1v9 the game and go 40 and 0 down 2 people.

sometimes?....

Nice try trying to turn that around. If you have to dc because an emergency you will 9 times out of 10 will take longer than to wait out the DC penalty.

Only time I DC'd was when my significant other screamed in pain and fell over, turns out they had a kidney stone and had to be rushed to the ER.
I instantly turned off my PC and left. RL always comes first in these instances.
I realize most DCs are from rage quitting however!

Survs often dc out of spite if they suspect killer is trying to get adept achievement. I had this situation three times in my games.
That's a very good reason to dc. Best wishes, hope it's fine now.

Comes down to the killer wanting the points. You'll see killers give the argument with "You're ruining the chance for your team" yet they'll tunnel and camp one person out from the start so they can 3v1, even at 5 gens left. If someone DC's, basically fast tracking the 3v1 they eagerly want (less pressure, easier game) it becomes an "injustice".

IF you dc for being camped and tunneled, then you give the killer free time, and this, a free win. Which means the killer did everything right, and will do it the next match, and the next, and forever.
If you stay in the game, the killer might at least get punished for doing so by only getting that one kill, and if that happens often enough, killers might change their approach.
Also, people dont dc because of that, but also because they dont like the killer, they dont like the map, the other survivor got to the hex totem first and got the points, or whatever other reason you can think of.

Except most people on this forum that complain about are either survivor mains or non tunneling killers. This argument is always used but it's just made up lol.

Guess I just don't like cowards. DCing is giving your teammates a big middle finger and doing a Cartman ("Screw you guys, I'm going home"). It's the equivalent of a child throwing a tantrum because the game (that they accepted to play btw, that's what you do when you press ready) doesn't go their way.
I'm also not a big fan of adults with child-like behaviour like this.

Game is not designed to be played with anything less than 5 players.

Just don´t dc.
It is never ok. SImple as that.
If you lose, you lose. Like in every other sport.
Everything else is just excuses.

DCing is never justified aside from irl emergencies. If you don't like the way other people are playing just suck it up. If the game is obvious L you can just throw yourself on hook. But dipping out at the start because you don't like the killer or the map or the fact that you got downed or you don't like one of the perks just throws the game and ruins it for the rest of your team. DC penalties are there for a reason

Cause it's "unsportsmanlike" basically it's an inconvenience.

the fact you even have to ask this

Or it comes from the other three survivors who had their game and chance to earn BP ruined because a selfish survivor decided to DC. If you're going to rage quit for anything less than RL issues, hacking or someone holding the game hostage stick to single player roles and don't play survivor. The Killer usually gets more BP if someone DCs.

It ruins the competitiveness and excitement of a match. The remaining players now are drained of the potential fun that could have been had and deal with a shell of a trial.
If DBD is this upsetting for a player who frequently disconnects, not only would that player be happier playing something else (I hear Civilization is good). So would every other player in the lobby.

DCing is a selfish act in general, although if it's because of an emergency at home or an internet issue then it's understandable.
However, quitting because they aren't having fun just messes it up for everyone. There is no "sometimes" when it comes to the negative impact on others; it is always negative.
Maybe if people who disconnect regularly are forced to only be able to play with people who do the same, perhaps they'll understand how unfair and weak it is.

Idk. I understand wanting to DC as survivor..if you're getting tunneled and about to get a second hook (after coming directly off a first hook) at 5 gens...why play?
Flipside...today I was playing....survivors tried to bully, I end up benefiting by getting multiple hooks...two dc...one kills herself as soon as she is hooked, I give hatch to the Nea that's left..as it's not her fault her whole team gave up.
Next match..coldwind...game starts, one person gets infected...all four disconnect one by one (before i've even seen any of them) because they apparently don't feel like playing Plague.
I guess the problem with dc'ing is there is really no way to factually determine why someone is dc'ing....so the only fair thing is to keep the penalty?

DCing because you're 'not having fun' is looked down on because if everyone did that then DBD would be completely ruined because people would be DCing from most games.

To be fair, why would you play a game you don't enjoy? Often times DCs reveal flaws in the gameplay loop for enjoyment. If the game had a problem circumstance that became so bad that someone is breaking the rules of the game to avoid it, maybe that problem should be addressed. I'm most certainly not saying Ragequit DCs from being outplayed don't exist, or any other 'temper tantrum' styled DC, just most of the games I've played had a massive problem cause a random given player to quit.
It's also strange there is no bot replacement or reconnect system. A fair number of DCs seem to be internet related, more than behavior related. One week my internet was a little wonky, and I could watch videos with no slowdown, but about 1 in 3 games it would randomly DC me long enough to boot me from the match. It was so bizarre because the YT vid on my second screen had no slowdown or skipping each time it happened.

you go to a restaurant with some friends, and after ordering and eating, you decided you didn't like the food and left, forcing others to pay your bill. Not right is it? same concept except for DbD, and its time and fun, not money

Yup. Put players that consistently DC into their own lobbies until they stop doing it.

Imagine you're playing a board game with friends. After a few turns, you say "I'm not winning I'm gonna take off". In the grand scheme of life, no it's not a big deal. But you definitely ruined the game for the remaining participants and you likely wouldn't be invited to the next game night.
The big difference of course is that there is a social contract that most people try to keep with in real life. Online, the consequences are much smaller so we treat each other much worse and justify that it's okay to leave a game we agreed to play for next to no reason.
That's it really.

Missed the point and still pushing the same non-sense.

Even still, in a real life emergency would you take the time to close the game or rushing away leaving your character afk?

It's not nonsense. You are literally helping the Killer by DCing. More BP, shorter matches and potential losses for the Killer are turned into wins for the Killer. The role that benefits is the Killer so congrats on messing up the survivors and helping the other side? Anybody who rage DCs is a terrible teammate and should stop queuing until they can stop throwing tantrums.
