Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

DBD is being held back by the Kill/Escape win condition

Not only is DBD an asymmetric game, but also its win condition, thus aggravating its design problems. There are countless limitations we have due to the Kill/Escape balance that needs to be maintained, from item balance to addon balance, from high and low-tier killers, the current meta, etc. In short, nothing can be fine-tuned because of the Kill/Escape win condition.

The solution? An arcade-like score system. We already have something like this in the game. Usually, if every survivor dies and you look at the BP score the survivor with the most points is the MVP. Currently, this BP is unreliable since it rewards escaping way too much, so it needs fine-tuning and then on the killer side, there are score events for things like static blast which would be simply too high for this new system to work. But with the number adjustment done, we can earn a LOT of benefits. I will present to you the overall changes needed and afterward the benefits that they will bring.

Changes:

-Infinite hook stages, survivors are unable to be sacrificed.

-Killer can escape through the exit door in EGC in order to close the match.

-The game will stop when a certain score threshold has been reached.

-Score events now pop up on screen more prominently to make it easier to learn the game.

-Rebalance the whole Point system to make it fair and balanced.

-End match screen doesn't show "Escape/Sacrificed" icons anymore, instead you get 4 medals for survivors, Iri medal, Gold medal, Silver medal and Bronze medal, medals of same type can repeat based on survivor performance, same for killer but his performance rating won't compete/take away from the survivors, think "Brutal Kill" "Ruthless Killer" "Entity Dispeased" rating that we have at the moment, but with actual good score system behind them.

Benefits:

-M1 killers now have an alternate way of winning. Play trapper? Trapping survivors grant you a LOT of points.

-Injuries grant points, an alternate way of playing the game with Legion.

-Camping isn't a thing anymore since survivors can't die.

-Tunneling a survivor will reward a stacking 50% point debuff.

-Any balance change will be fine-tuned via the scoring system instead of having to deal with the Kill/Escape which is impossible to balance fairly for both sides

-Survivors don't rely on teammates to compete with the Killers anymore

-Due to survivor and killer ratings being separated now through medals you can have a match where 2 survivors get Gold, 2 get Silver and the killer gets Silver OR 3 survivors get bronze, one survivor gets Iri and Killer also gets Iri. How many times have you played out of your mind and the killer also played amazingly, yet the match score is thrown out the window because your teammates throw the game? That won't be a problem anymore!

-Someone DC? No problem! Score multiplier for the remaining survivors!

*This could be a temporary game mode first, to test public perception.

-------------------------------------------------

I know this is a huge change to get your mind around from the get-go. Nothing from what I said is cast in stone, this is only a suggestion. The main idea is that the "Kill/Escape" system is holding DBD back, it might be it's founding principle, but when things don't work out it's time to reinvent. As we have seen of late DBD has quite a lot of issues that have persisted over the years and no matter the amount of midchapter updates that we get, we somehow already accepted the fact that DBD will never be balanced and that we should be happy with what we already have. But it doesn't have to be that way, we CAN have a fun AND balanced game, altho we need to sacrifice the "Escape/Survive" aspect of the game to get there.

Honestly I like it, this could be another game mode.

The biggest change is how the victory would be perceived, I am not sure everyone would get satisfaction from a number.

tbh if survivors can’t die then that kinda removes a lot of the fear aspects of the game maybe this can be another game mode or something but I can imagine this not being as exciting I can agree on escaping is valued way to much because I tend to loop on average 2-3 gens die at the end and there’s times I only get safety pip

You sold your idea really well tbh it sounds great. i can't imagine it ever being implemented (unless for some wild reason they decide to change stance on new game modes), and I can't imagine the base game being changed this way, because as much as the kill / escape design is holding the game back, it's also DBD's identity.

...maybe for DBD 2 tho haha

So what would even be the purpose of escaping through the exit gates, hatch and EGC? If survivors can't die and match ends after a certain point threshold been met then that kinda ruins the whole objective of repairing 5 gens and then escaping.

Another flaw I'm seeing hook states and no dying. What would happen if the killer has every one slugged and/or on a hook or camps one player really hard? Hook state and bleed out prob be on a much shorter duration maybe.

Maybe as a different game mode sure, but it's gonna need a very different objective for survivors for it to work. A mix of pigs jigsaw boxes and gens? Repair a gen, get a key piece, get 3 pieces for a full key to allow only the holder to escape through a gate. If you die/hooked lose a key piece. Escaping or dying will reset and respawn you in a random locker. This key cannot be dropped its carried in its own unique item slot.

Like to look at flaws and how things be abused while brainstorming my own mess.

It could work as another Gamemode...

But there kinda needs to be a "win condition" for the game to end

In this mode the Killers would be just Injuriers, and the Moris would be useless. Any perks and add-ons involving kills would need to be reworked I guess? Like Devour Hope and Rancor, etc. At least for this mode they would, or be deactivated.

There'd be no point to Reassurance and any similar perks really. What about a Pyramid Head who possibly can cage everyone? Or a Twins who hooks no one? There would be lots to look at.

The number of chases would likely skyrocket and that's not a bad thing at all.

I agree with the others, should there be a DBD 2 they could include this Arcade Mode.
