Why does this have to be so difficult?

I know it's so much easier to earn masks playing killer, but it shouldn't be. It should be just as easy to earn with survivor as it is with killer.
First three matches of the night have been absolutely abysmal. First match I get downed by Trapper at the meat plant and put in the basement. He then puts traps by both entrances to the basement and camps. I leave the match with less than 2,000 blood points. Second match of the night sees my entire team not doing generators, and I die as a result trying to do said generators. Final match ends up being a 30 minutes Sadako match because she didn't want to hook anyone and instead do the Mori challenge.
Bottom line is that I don't like playing killer because it's too damn sweaty. I just want to earn a mask as survivor, and the fact that I can earn a mask as killer by doing nothing more than grabbing a scroll and going AFK is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously BHVR, what the hell?

Decided to give it one more try, and the very next match we had a teammate DC and the killer showed no mercy at all, and killed us at five gens. It's like, what was the point of even bringing a cake?

you have a lot of them so who cares, every games there's cake so doesn't really matter if you bring it or not. I saw comment on reddit saying "i tunnel people who dont bring cakes to make up for the lost bp" and it got hundreds of upvotes. So maybe you should bring them just to survive, lol.

Yeah, survivor side during the event has been rather painful to be completely honest. Especially if you are someone who play casually, and trying to have fun. To get the mask, you also have to complete all gens without dying, which is not always possible. Especially against killers like the one you highlighted.
Personal experience with the game during the event:
I tend to mostly get tryhards with the sweatiest builds, who show no mercy, and plays dirty (camping, tunneling etc.) to get the 4k game. Even if me and my friends show that we are friendly, and just want a fun time since well.. you know, it is a bloodpoints event after all. But when the killer goes "super saiyan tryhard" almost every game, it is really difficult to enjoy playing the Survivor side. And yes, we are the kind of people who goes out of our way (like bodyblocking, saboing or things like that) to try preventing someone from being tunneled out immediately, which is really boring. We don't play bad, it's the damn SBMM and competitiveness these days that dictates how (most) people play, and how sweaty opponents we get.
I tend to play killer a lot differently than others, I don't camp hooks or tunnel people out. I actually ROTATE people on hook, keeping count of how many hook stages they are on, I patrol gens, take good chases, and I can still win games by playing fair... As an example, I got a nice 4K game on RPD, both center gens got done:
I did not camp or tunnel anyone, despite them bringing flashlights. The Nea got some karma though in the end, as she was teabagging in the exit gate without realizing she was not far enough out 😅 The Leon was actively following me around, trying to get flashlight saves, hence why his score was so low.
Killer is really easy in comparison, as you need only the invitation to get the mask, and that's it.

Yes I agree it's quite unbalanced and needs to be looked at.

I agree that survivors got the short end of the stick here. In your case, I'd bring a more selfish build. I got the last masquerade challenge (3 x gold Unbroken emblems - so basically escape after either being hooked once or not at all) done within 4 games by bringing Distortion, Overcome, Lucky Break, and WoO, as well as a medkit with an extra heal. It helped me get to the end so it might help you.
Most players would have the masks and reset is coming up next week, so everyone would be playing extra sweaty unfortunately. And I'm all too familiar with the calibre of solo queue team mates.

No lie, I've been thinking about loading up killer games and just grabbing a scroll and going either AFK or farming. If that's literally all that BHVR requires from the killer, then so be it. Like you, I tend to not camp or tunnel, but you definitely feel the sweat when you don't. I'm a casual player too, and Dead by Daylight is definitely not built for casual players. After back to back miserable matches as survivor last night, I couldn't play anymore, so it's not hard to see why this game has a difficult time acquiring and keeping new players, especially if you're a solo player.

Run gen build and hope to make it to last man standing or hatch closes.

Honestly, I love being the default healer of the group. Being able to quickly heal my teammates is something that puts a smile on my face. But unless I'm playing with friends, solo queue makes that build frustratingly difficult. I guess I have no choice but to be more greedy.
