Can someone help me understand how did I lose a Distortion token here?
I don't understand, the Wraith is not using any aura perk or add-on

I'm honestly not sure I'm betting a bug

I would say Rancor but a few seconds before gen is finished? Because of bug reasons?

Pretty sure I saw somewhere on twitter that distortion just bugs out sometimes and thinks your aura is being read

Rancor doesnt read your aura, its more of a notification.
So the most likely answer is that its a bug

Distortion is pretty weird at the moment. I've been using it basically non stop for ages now, and lately it has made me feel like I'm going insane. Often it seems like I lose a stack for no real reason around the time the killer would get bloodlust (your clip kinda looks like that one) it both loses and recovers tokens on hook which I'm pretty sure isn't intended and more.
On the bright side, you can try to weaponize it. It still deletes your scratch marks because the perk activates, so when it happens if you have the chance try some wacky juke and you'll have a few laughs.

Massive stretch, but could it be the aura that’s revealed when the killer gets access to the Expose invitation ability?

What was the Wraith's build?

Click the link. It's right there.

The only thing I can think of is that he got Bloodlust 1, which selected you as a valid target for the exposed effect and BHVR have accidentally made the blue outline shimmer effect showing survivors as an active target an 'aura' and it blocked it. You can see he has active invitation effects on him as he's chasing you.
Should be easy to test if two people can get in a custom game. EDIT: Ah wait, event effects aren't active in a custom game. I'll see if I can run distortion later and see if being bloodlust removes a stack.

Is that a thing? I didn't even know

Does Distortion activate if the killer player is using cheats to read your aura? I’m not saying this Wraith was cheating - I just ask because I’ve had more than a few games lately where killers were running no aura reading perks and had none tied to their powers or add-ons and yet they miraculously knew exactly where to go to find survivors. It could be luck but the way it happened in-game I don’t think so.

I thought about that, but I think we should follow the "distortion is bugged" train 🤔

Not in my experience, but hacks could have advanced. I used Distortion at the height of the wall hack epidemic and it never took a token. It was actually an easy way to determine whether a killer was using wall hacks, as most would try pass it off as BBQ and Chilli

I believe this is the case. I was watching Otz's stream a while ago and someone with OTR didn't give the aura when the invitation's expose-effect was ready to use. It seems that counts as an aura-read and so Distortion or OTR effects it.

I mean he had rancor. The game audio on the clip is pretty quiet so i can't tell if a gen popped or not but that would explain the aura read

Yeah, this is 100% the case. The Devs tend to re-use things when they add new things (e.g. Knights guards which were basically like Spirits phasing, which resulted in Knight being able to grab Survivors from Gens when making a path).
They probably just used the Aura to highlight that the Exposed-ability is available without considering Perks which affect Auras.

Rancor doesn't reveal aura, and no gen was popped

For some weird reason, when the killer has gained bloodlust and can expose you, that counts as aura reading and consume a Distortion token. I realised that quickly the first day of the event.
