The answer is simply that you misheared, it "wasn't programmed to harm the crew", yet it did, so something went wrong ... like some alien, sentient, blue crystal.

The machine gained sentience and is killing them for it's own reasons (to become perfect [such a good phyrexian] and contempt) meaning it's more than a machine. Also yes the entity put school busses in the realm {auto haven}

Next Patch: Gabriel fixed the Singularity.
Singularity is removed from killers and is now a Survivor.
This is the reason no one sees Singularity Killers anymore
