Zero value from Ruin every match
Is impossible to win a match as a new killer, nothing but experienced survivors, gens just fly, I try to slow them down with corrupt and ruin, but ruin just gets broken in the first minute of the match every time, there is no point on playing as new killer, you will not have any fun at all

Ruin is such a bad perk now that its been nerfed...maybe would have been good if it wasn't a hex but only 100% doesn't warrant running it. Wish it got less of a nerf.

Ruin and corrupt are not good synergy perks. Corrupt encourages survivors to run around the map allowing them to find your totem easily. Ruin is also just not a very good perk anymore, I’d recommend using pop, jolt or pain res.

If you’re running Corrupt and Ruin together, don’t. Since Corrupt typically prevents survivors from immediately starting on a generator close to them, they’re more likely to spread out which encourages them to look for other generators and other objectives, increasing the likelihood that Ruin gets found and removed early.
Also Ruin in general is just kinda bad now.

Do lobby dodging, if you're a new player. Dodge something like 3-5 lobbies and you'll eventually go against a team that is closer to your experience. The MMR in this game is really wonky, because of SWF's and the fact that game prioritizes finding matches quick rather than finding opponents of equal skill level

Hexes that spawn at the start of the match are just too weak to justify using imo.
Half the time survivors spawn on top of it. The other half they spawn in such obvious places that they are going to get cleansed before you even start getting momentum.
Generally the hexes I see in play if I see any are: Plaything (spawns per first hook), Pentimento (usually paired with plaything), Haunted Grounds, NOED.
Occasionally I run into Undying and Devour Hope, because the reward for keeping the hex up actually exists.

What this person says, consistent slowdown is not good anymore, you need burst slowdown and to down survivors.
As they mentioned the greatest slowdown perk in the game is unironically lethal pursuer. It allows you to immediately start a chase with a survivor as soon as the match starts and start the snowball faster. Then, if you combine that with burst slowdown like pain res/pop you can get the snowball going pretty quickly.
For passive gen defense, you want to stay away from stuff like ruin, and go more with things like deadlock, no way out (slows down the endgame basically passively as long as you don't tunnel), jolt (if you are an m1 killer). Corrupt, if you need extra time in the beginning, like a nemesis leveling up, or a myers tiering up, or some other setup-type killer.
If you want a more spicy match you can use the hex build that is going around:
- Devour Hope
- Pentimento
- Undying
- Haunted Ground
Basically, if they don't cleanse your totems, devour hope will very VERY suddenly slow the game down, if they do cleanse your totems, odds are it will be haunted ground, and you'll be able to snowball pretty hard. And then, you get pentimento for a solid 30% slowdown that is very consistent. The downside to this is your early game tends to be a bit rougher as the game basically comes to a screeching halt around 2 gens left.
Things like ruin and merciless storm are terrible and should not be used.

Killers still run Ruin? Really?

why do killers get so mad and shout “survivior sided” when they don’t get a 4k with 0 gens popping on their first round with a new killer

Ruin is very bad now, dont use it

Didnt see anyone shout 'survivor sided', other than you, of course.
@sluc16 Anyway, new killer?! Who are you pulled to?! Wanna practice sometime? Always happy to help :)

Newsflash: you don't slow down gens without doing anything, perks do not work on their own, they don't play the game for you.
If you want to run Ruin, then you need to actively drive survivors away from gens. This means you likely need to run some sort of info perk. Lethal Pursuer, Surveillance, Tinkerer, etc. And you need to prioritise defending gens, not getting tunnel vision while you chase a survivor for 5 minutes.

Do you have some gameplay to review?

It got the same mind-boggling double-tap that DS got.
DS loses end-game activation? Great.
Ruin disables itself when a survivor dies? Great.
DS goes from 5 to 3 seconds? Why?
Ruin goes from 200% to 100%? WHY!?
These perks were close to being perfect and then they just got butchered.

We are not in the eruption cob meta/ruin undying meta anymore my friend, you will have to down survivors to win.

Even when ruin was good running it with corrupt intervention was just a good way to lose two perks right away.
Now ruin is a really bad perk and the above is still true.

run pop/pain res/jolt or haunted ground/undying/pentimento/devour hope or undying/devour/nowhere to hide/noed
