The Survivor Meta

So i have been making a real effort to play different kinda builds that seem fun in theory, but i have come to the conclusion that it just feels worse than solo q already is. it sucks that you cant run fun builds and have a chance to win. Just like killers feel like they have to run the meta so do Survivors unfortunately. In todays game if all survivors are not running the meta along with very bad decision making most of the time the games are not even close. Back to MFT, HOPE, DH, Deliverance i go! SO SAD

I suggest ditching your crutch perks and trying new builds whenever you can. Whenever I took off windows, Adrenaline and exhaustion perks - I found myself becoming more map aware and better at looping.

I still use them sometimes in certain builds but I never want to be reliant on a perk to believe I can survive.

I run distortion, bond, prove and reassurance and/or dejavu, most matches I can handle a chase decently, and I can do generators quite quickly. I can also help with camping and rescuing my teammates. Distortion helps big time with knowing what perks the killer has and also helps me hide, I've even had it help me lose chase before haha.

Sometimes meta isn't always the best, I guess all I can say is find some perks that suit your playstyle. I like to see where my teammates are at all times (If I can) and gen rush, hide and help others. It works well. Took me a while to find a build that I enjoy, I hope that you find one that works for you soon. :)

If I'm tired of losing every match running all meta perks does seem to stop that. It really does make a difference in solo queue. However I only keep one character setup like that. Every other character I like to have their 3 unique perks equipped plus one of my choosing. That way I can get lots of variety of I want it.

I hate the survivor meta rn. Its so braindead. Seriously, explain how looping is skillful when you have MFT making you loop better by default, WoO optimizing your pathing automatically, a third health state in DH, and hope just to make you unkillable in endgame? Not that reaching endgame is hard when you've got 3 perks making every chase take an extra 30s. not to trash on people who use them or anything their just using whats been given to them. Obviously good survivors get far more value... but a decent survivor with that build will loop just a good as they do without.

i used to play huntress before MFT released. Now all im allowed to play is wesker with full meta

I'm a solo queue player and I run fun builds alot. Some perks i use more often than others, namely WoO (which is meta, yes) and Overcome, but I change up often. If I play enough each month I can get to iri 1. And that's without using any of the perks you mention. In terms of winning though, solo queue is meant to have low escape rates - who do you think fuels the 60% kill rates? I do think if it drops any lower though that alot of players will be driven off.

I'm content with my escape rate (currently 27% - I keep track of my results) but I had one week where my escape rate dropped to 10% and it was honestly hard to keep playing. Started thinking maybe the game wasn't for me - and I've been playing for almost a few years lol

I also had my best winstreak using Overcome, Lucky Break, Bite the Bullet, plus something like Quick and Quiet, with a medkit. I feel like that's a fun/meme build. So I think it can be done without falling on meta perks.

I don’t see DH much anymore. It’s been replaced by other exhaustion perks, or players just using MFT in place of an exhaustion perk. But yes the survivor META prioritizes surviving (as long as one can) chase.

gonna be honest I’m someone who tries to run a full meta build and then I get bored of it after like 2 games

You don’t need any perk to win as survivor. Most of the survivor strength is basekit. Especially in pubs. The same way you don’t need 4 slowdowns to win in pubs as Killer if you are good.

The only perk having a real impact in a match as soloQ survivor is maybe Deliverance imho.

If you want consistent wins you need SWF. That’s the reality of the game balance. Solo Q = potatoes.

Let me rephrase that for you then. Knowing that there's a 40% escape rate for survivor atm and possibly even less if you play solo, you have to understand that a lot of games are out of your control, something you have to accept to even enjoy this game. If you get frustrated you're not escaping and would like to escape more, it can be very taxing on you (at least on solo) since you cannot control your teammates. Plus escaping through hatch does not raise your MMR and doesn't make it more likely to get decent teammates more often.

In my opinion, many games feel quite winnable if only there was more co-ordination between solos, which does feel unfair not having that feature. But I know I'm probably losing the game when aI see 2-3 flashlights in my lobby, because they'll be playing in a stupid way.

I'm imagining the ire towards this comment is for how varying the definition of "winning" can be. Do you mean escaping, because I can attest that looping the killer all match only to die is more fun than being a gen jockey and escaping. But I do agree that people playing as the "Survivor" are keen to want surviving.

I also got bored of my build, now I'm playing around with Fixated + Lightweight, it's been fun :)

The OP didn't specify on what a their "win" was, but I assumed they meant escaping, which is what I'm referring too when I said "winning". I think this game is more than just escaping and 4k's, so I personally don't care if I "win" or not, so I TRY to win with whatever goofy build I want to run, but I couldn't care less if that results in a "win" or "loss"

It doesnt even have to be a win. I just want a close competitive game. It just seems every game is everyone dies at 3 gens, or the killer get 2 hooks and everyone is out.
