Depositing a tape is the only way to cleanse condemnation.

If you destroy the tape a survivor is holding, they are unable to cleanse until they pick up another one. Instead of needing to find one other TV to cleanse, they need to find two.

Holding a tape is always going to be in the survivors interest, so you can assume as Sadako that every survivor you find after the first gen is done will likely have a tape on them. That's where the slowdown comes into play, hit them and they will have to visit more TVs.

Spoken like someone who doesn't play Sadako, and/or didn't play her on the PTB.

These changes make her the opposite of pro-active. They actively strip away her pro-activeness. Her only viable power now is entirely passive. Rather than strategically teleporting for map control, targeted condemn and information, she is incentivized now to just spam teleports solely to build condemned as fast as possible.

Her power is entirely controlled by the survivors. The survivors choose whether they take a tape or not, and if they take a tape, then Sadako knows she needs to find them and hit them. It's like she's on auto pilot. New survivors that don't know to take tapes immediately are just going to get destroyed by teleport spam.

And on top of all that, they nerfed her hit-n-run stealth playstyle by inexplicably nerfing Reiko's watch and taking away her ability to get bloodlust while demanifested. Demanifesting in chase and using her intermittent phasing was the only real tool she had in loops and now doing this will reset her bloodlust and also let survivors reset any window-blocker. This was her most "pro-active" playstyle and it's also being destroyed by this update.

Not going to happen. The OG Freddy nerfs prove that. I was never a good sadako but I can only imagine how hurt OnePumpWillie is.

I'm glad they removed the Condemn on allied hook with tape. I despise Myers/Oni/Plague mechanics where your team being bad ends up disproportionately hurting you. The Survivor TV CD is interesting. They would have been able to turn off the TV for a full gen's worth of time, and they reduced it so TVs aren't permanently off. Tape destruction on-hit prevents encouraging slugging, so that's nice. I wonder if it would be better at 3 or 2.5 stacks instead of 2 though. How people play around things influences their strength. At the same time too large of a number would be like giving Pig trap slowdown with 4 or more searches per player.

Yep, which means both of them will be gutted in a month or two because of their pickrate.

This is not true, by seeing the survivors portraits you can see who has a tape by observing static on their portraits.

You realize they can still take another hit before having to worry about condemned right? Hell even 2 more hits if they want to, not like sadako has any real way of stopping them from shoving it in a tv the second they hear her tr

That no longer appears I think since they no longer gain passive condemned

mm, I do not have acces to dbd for like a week, ill watch some sadako content and try and see if it is still in the game or not, ill report on it in this thread or make a thread about it then, because I didnt contemplate maybe they could have removed it?

That's incorrect. I just checked one pumps last video from the PTB and when one of the cages picks the tape up in the first match they get that icon.

Her only viable power now is entirely passive. Rather than strategically teleporting for map control, targeted condemn and information, she is incentivized now to just spam teleports solely to build condemned as fast as possible.

if you mindless spam teleport when everyone has tape. you build 0 condemn like onepumpwilly play-style. you only get rewarded for accurately teleportation and confirming a hit post-TV teleportation. you get twice reward. before teleporting within 16 meters of a survivor award 1 stack. Now it awards 2 stacks if you successfully teleport and hit a survivor.

New survivors that don't know to take tapes immediately are just going to get destroyed by teleport spam.

New survivor would pick up tapes and just hold tape for entire game until they get passively condemned by tape passive. they did not understand how to use the tapes.

they nerfed her hit-n-run stealth playstyle

did they really? you are encouraged to hit & run to knock peoples tapes out of survivor''s hands.

Do you expect anything different? The devs routinely show that they would rather err on the side of a killer being weak than strong.

This comment gives me a headache in how far is misses the point.

I guarantee you the number of condemn kills is going to skyrocket tomorrow because of all the players who don't pay attention to patch notes and don't know what Onryo can do now. And that trend will continue for newer or inexperienced players. But once most people figure out they can just pick up a tape an negate her power completely with a 5-10 second jog, that's all they are going to do. So she will become extremely weak against any moderately knowledgeable player.

And as for hit and run. Sure she can do normal hit and run. But before this patch, she had a couple add-ons she could run that let her excel at it. Those add-ons have been nerfed, taking away what made her better than average.

But the real big nerf is to the fun of playing her. They've taken away all the agency she had over her own power and how she could use it. She has one viable playstyle now, and 80% of it is in the hands of the survivors. It's just not fun. And no Onryo main was playing her because she was strong, we were playing her because she was fun.

I am not saying she is going to be good vs experienced players. you'll only mori weaker middle-level survivors due to being an m1 killer. I think most sadako will be using Iri-tape because it is too easy to remove condemn otherwise. For example, You can walk to a generator. repair generator for 20 seconds which is roughly 2 teleports, then you can take out a tape from TV which turns off TV for 70 seconds. By the time you finish repairing the generator, the TV will turn back on. So now you can deposit the tape inside exact same TV that you got tape from. The only way to fix this problem is to use iri-tape so that survivor has to go to further TV instead of depositing the tape in same TV.

As you can see, you still reliant on using iri-tape to condemn kill with the killer.

And as for hit and run. Sure she can do normal hit and run. But before this patch, she had a couple add-ons she could run that let her excel at it. Those add-ons have been nerfed, taking away what made her better than average.

I am aware of that. the fact that survivors turn off your TV teleportation and you have no ways to turn TV back on reduces Sadako into an m1 killer that has to manually hit & run walk to places instead of hit & run TV teleport to places. they're on the right idea for her but there is some execution error in her kit to do well as hit & run killer.

To the devs: I regret that I cannot justify continuing to play DBD until Sadako's changes, with the exception of preventing the slug+condemn style, are reverted. Considering the vast amount of feedback received on the forum, including a thread where someone was kind enough to compile nearly every piece of feedback from Sadako players outlining their concerns, seeing a fundamental refusal to address those concerns reflected in the update is indicative of a deep lack of care for the game and a disregard for its players.

Thank you for all the good times and wonderful matches I've had so far; I hope to have them again.

I play enough Sadako but I'm not comparing these changes with the only way she is currently viable using two addons and playing in a specific way essentially cheesing the condemned bar. I'm comparing basekits which is the only thing that matters.

Projection has a 10 second CD - If you're in need to teleport more frequently it's hard to say you're using it strategically and more just using it until you see a condemned light up leaving you with no teleports.

She isn't encouraged to spam TV's to build condemned now - She's incentivized to punish survivors trying to disable her projection. You either slowly build up condemned on everyone overtime throughout the game or someone takes a tape and risk getting hit and having an immediate 2 stacks added to them.

Overall - It's a better foundation rather than just spamming teleport and hoping you land a condemned and then looking for that survivor. She has some addons that spread condemned that could probably be incorporated into basekit but that is something that hasn't changed with either form.

If her new basekit is weak that's absolutely fine because her current basekit is garbage and super addon dependent. New basekit at least adds consistency that can be built upon.

I see no issues with her losing bloodlust while Demanifesting - Most killers lose bloodlust while using their power or breaking chase. Her power is similar to Wraith so that she can sneak up on survivors while stealthed so it makes sense. If she was still in chase with Bloodlust you'd hear chase music. It isn't necessarily a Sadako issue as it affects Wraith too - Granted Wraith has more benefits to being cloaked.

No idea why they needed to go through so much effort and get so much negative feedback in the process when the ring drawing changes and reducing the amount of TVs turned on from M1 via her Iri addon would be enough to nerf the Slugdako playstyle.

The rest of the design philosophy just screams “We want everyone to be condemned and do Tvs more often!” and “But we don’t want Survivors to keep pulling a Patrick Bateman the whole game!”

You can jump to locker and force her to grab you. In this case, you will still have tape.

Why survivor will do this? If they have 5 stacks and caught by Sadako, probably only counter will be jumping to locker.

  • Digfish
    Digfish Member Posts: 140

Okay. Pretty clear you don't know what you're talking about. "I play enough Sadako." I'm sure you do. Apparently not enough to understand what Sadako mains enjoyed about her, and how this patch is taking all of it away. I sure wish people who have only casually played a few Sadako games would keep their uninformed takes to themselves.

    Dustin Member Posts: 2,322

I play Sadako and every other killer pretty equally (Minus Nurse - Quit playing her entirely). I welcome these changes because Sadako won't be one of those games where the game is prolonged just to attempt to condemned kill everyone. You should be more open minded and learn to adapt to the changes.

Doesn't you using your teleport and seeing a survivor not getting a condemned stack tell you who has a tape?

I'm not arguing one way or another, but I thought that was the point of the global condemn was to force grabbing a tape for protection, but with the risk of getting 2 stacks and the tape destroyed.... if Sadako teleports immediately after hitting you, that's 2 plus another 3/4 right out of the gate... and in 10 seconds if you don't grab another one, you're on 3.5 (half) condemn...

If she guesses your target TV then, she can port there, chase and down you, and now you're on hook with 3.5 condemn, with a need to heal after the unhook, and with the healing nerfs that takes time... while she is still porting around every 10s adding even more condemn... seems like could get pretty nutty pretty quickly...

    Or am I missing something?

  • Digfish
    Digfish Member Posts: 140

The problem is that there is no adapting. They are dumbing down all of her abilities to the point that she is on autopilot. They are removing what versatility she had, and they are removing all skill from her gameplay. But you clearly don't understand that because you have a very limited view of how she plays. You clearly haven't played her enough to understand the nuances of her play that make her fun and pro-active and appealing to main. That's fine, but again, I don't see your opinion as one worth considering when nearly every Sadako main who has actually invested time in learning the ins and outs of the character understands that these changes just make her less fun and less dynamic.

And if you think most Sadako players were playing Slugako style, then you clearly are just getting your takes from youtubers. The large majority of Sadakos I've talked to were using Reiko's Watch and going for stealth plays.

    DBD78 Member Posts: 3,469

Really bad of course. So now survivors will just jump into lockers to avoid the mori, so it's all about getting hooks. Not fun for the killer and not for the survivors. And still only two good addons the rest trash, same problem as Pyramid Head people will use the same addons all the time.

  • Dustin
    Dustin Member Posts: 2,322

Hit and run, slugging, cheesing the condemned stacks. It all plays the same because Sadako is a very basic killer. The only interesting games with her are where people know how to take advantage of her passive phasing.

I don't watch YouTubers I actually play the game. Watching content creators is going to give you a very skewed (And cherry picked) view of the game.

Well you still get a hook they should just add back the everyone gets a Condemned stack then it removes that issue get 2 or everyone gets 1

I have been extremely negative towards some decisions the devs have taken the last few months/years but i have to admit that this time, they have listened to the community and the changes are good.

I have to try the killer to see how it goes but on the paper it is way better than the changes in the test build.

    So thanks devs.

Thats until you factor in that those 10 seconds are unironically enough time to take a tape and put it in another TV

  • Sharby

After playing against her for the first time I didn't realize how safe tapes are now, what's the downside to always taking the tape out the TV closest to the gen? Feels like she has to walk everywhere now.

Not only this, but if they are holding a tape and are about to get attacked, they could just hop in a locker and get grabbed instead so they don't get condemned progress

As a Sadako main i like em. the no stun is real nice + my fav addons slightly got buffed. I never played the condemed playstyle so i cant comment on that part. The cooldown between tv teleports are annoying tho but ill get used to it.
