What do you think BHVR considers a "BIG L" license?
If the licenses are as "BIG L" as they made it sound, they'd have to be something that most people know of even if you're not a gamer..right? When they said "BIG L", if I'm not mistaken wouldn't that narrow it down to 5 or 6 licenses? I mean we don't have many "BIG Ls" even left to put in the game. I'm curious to see what they reveal so I can judge for myself if I think it was worthy of being called a "BIG L" license.
Putting an emphasis on these licenses being "BIG Ls" straight to our faces tells me that they really are BIG BIG BIG licenses. Like Jason or Pennywise. Something that 9 out of every 10 people can just glance at and immediately know what it is. Alien is another one...or even Chucky. Those would scream "BIG L" to me anyway. There are people talking about the most random stuff like Until Dawn and Danganronpa?? The hell is Danganronpa?! Even Bioshock, The Evil Within, and Dead Space don't meet the "BIG L" license imo, because you have to be a gamer to know what those things even are..
Stranger Things perhaps?? That would for sure fit the bill. We'll know in just a few days if they said that purely to hype people up for no reason or the supposed "BIG L" isn't Chapter 29, and is Ch 30 instead , which would be fine, but I swear they said BOTH licenses were "BIG Ls". For me there are only a handful of franchises that come to mind when putting emphasis on that "BIG L". Should be pretty easy to narrow down if they really are that big.. What do you guys think?

To me, a Big L License would have to be one of THE mainstays of horror. Someone/thing from horror that everyone would know.
So who would that be? Someone like Jason Voorhees is the only one that I think would truly fit the bill (that still isn't in the game like Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers). A killer that everyone would know, even if you are not a big horror fan. If it's not him, I suppose I'd put Dark Horse money on someone like Chucky or a Xenomorph (characters that most movie goers are going to know). Super Dark Horse money on someone like Pennywise or Candy Man (characters that horror movie fans are going to know).
I suppose there's an outside chance that their Big L is a gaming Big L rather than a horror villain icon but I just feel like their Big L is going to be a horror movie A Lister.

I completely agree with that. I also would be perfectly happy if it was a "BIG L" from gaming. There are even less of those though. "BIG L" horror video games that are not already in DBD are simply Five Nights At Freddys and Slenderman. I really can't think of another "BIG L" gaming license that beats the legacy of those two specifically. Hopefully it is a movie license. Seeing Hellraiser make it in was so satisfying. I really hope we do get that next mainstay of horror as you put it.

I almost forgot about THE THING?! That might just work as well. In b4 its something like M3GAN... :'(

Watch it be pumpkinhead tbh.

They also said "iconic", not just "big L", which suggests to me an older, well loved license.

As someone who wasn't a fan of the horror genre prior to playing DBD, allow me to offer my opinion on horror's biggest icons (not already in the game):
- Jason
- Pennywise
- Jack Torrance
- Alien
- Chucky
- Dracula
- Frankenstein Monster
- Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
- The Phantom of the Opera
- Cthulu/Anything with Lovecraft's name on it
From that list, Dracula is (imo) the biggest icon. ...but he is also public domain, so he wouldn't make sense for a "licensed chapter." I believe Frankenstein, DJ & MH, and the Phantom are also public domain, so not exactly "licensed."
Lovecraft is (imo) the next heaviest hitter, but his monsters are far less recognizable than his name. If BHVR was interested in that type of killer, I think the Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth would evoke a better response from consumers than any Lovecraftian being ever could.
I wouldn't rule out non-horror movies as "big licenses," either:
- Wizard of Oz (Wicked Witch)
- Nightmare Before Christmas (Oogie Boogie)
- Harry Potter (Dementors)
- The Mummy (Imhotep)
- Jurassic Park (T-Rex)
- Lord of the Rings (Nazgul)
IMO, DBD could extend it's life by 10 years with non-horror licenses, and I would hope that BHVR is exploring those options.

I believe they consider every major licensed chapter in the game to be Big L. They said Silent Hill was an iconic franchise that had "marked the world of horror since its inception" or something like that, which I'd argue is true, but it wasn't quite on the level of what people were expecting since previous chapters had not been hyped up as licensed ahead of time. Truth this, this game hasn't really stooped to C-listers yet, and I take this "Big L" hype as just a confirmation that the game isn't going to stoop there now either. In other words, it's not M3GAN, some other flavour of the month, and probably not a relatively unknown but classic IP like Clocktower.

I really hope it's Phantasm. I know many Dead by Daylight players don't know it, but it's a definite classic of the genre.

He did say both of them were iconic, big L’s so you’re not mistaken there.
Anyway, I’m always super surprised to see people commenting on what franchises they think of as iconic and yet no one mentions Psycho. It set the stage for future slasher films. I’d also like to point out that this year is the 50th anniversary of The Exorcist… not sure how they’d be able to incorporate that but you can’t deny it’s huge in the world of horror. There’s also a new movie coming out too…

The hell is Danganronpa?!
Over five million copies sold worldwide and adaptations into other media forms.
Remember that DBD is a company that exists in many markets and the Japan/east Asia player base is quite large.
That said, it's not going to be Danganronpa. As @Man_of_triangles said, every license gets pitched as big.
Wouldn't it be amazing if it was another character from Texas Chainsaw Massacre? That would be hilariously confusing marketing.

One thing to keep in mind: BHVR will say "big licenses" for most licenses, because it's to big-up the chapter hype, as well as to keep good relations with the licensed chapter. So, it could be a big name like "Alien", but could also be smaller, such as "Alan Wake". It certainly won't be an obscure or relatively unknown in the public eye like "The Magnus Archives", but it may not quite be the blockbuster some may be considering.

inb4 it's The horribly slow murderer with the extremely inefficient weapon

Whatever it'll end up being, i'm going to keep my expectations on a low and say it's probably not what we expect.
Personally, i would much rather have more cult classic chapters like Pumpkinhead, Maniac Cop, Hatchet, Wishmaster or Phantasm
I definitely don't believe it's going to be.
- Friday the 13th
- Stranger Things
- Any of Stephen King's IPs
- Chucky
- Any Public Domain IPs like Lovecraft or Universal Monsters
- A second chapter of an existing IP we already have in-game
- Any Sony IPs that are console exclusive like Until Dawn

Hope for aLien.
Also Ginosagi (ot whatever the correct name of spoonguy is), could be a cool skin for ghostface.
Imagine ghostface hiting you with a spoon.

I hadn't even considered Jack Torrance! How wicked would that be. I can't see him ever coming to DBD honestly, as he's too human and I can see people complaining, but he's definitely iconic

Exactly this.
Just because the devs consider it a big license, it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone from all regions will agree. I consider Candyman and Buffy to be iconic for example, and I know full well that others would not agree. I hadn't even heard of Pyramid Head when he was announced but I now understand why he is considered iconic.

inb4 it’s Luigi’s Mansion

Big license was Freddy, Myers for example and those are iconics too, so u have the example here.
Which are iconic? Jason, IT, Alien (I don't know if I should place the alien as an iconic slasher...)

The community is certainly gonna call it a big L if it flops

And there it is... ######### ALIEN!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
