Is Blast Mine Really An Issue? Are We Stooping This Low To Complain About It?
Ive seen a lot of people complaining on the forums that Blast Mine is too strong now, and I personally cannot agree at all.
I would like to just make some counter arguments to some arguments against Blast Mine Ive seen going around...
"Blast Mine has 0 counterplay..."
- Blast Mine is countered by a wide variety of Killers, addons, and perks. Some of the perks in the current meta actually do an amazing job at countering it. SH: Pain Resonance and Jolt are prime examples.
- With Sadako being more used, people have found out that Hex: Ruin is a good pick for her since it passively regresses Generators while people deliver tapes. This is just another prime example of a Killer making use of a niche perk that just counters Blast Mine.
"I should not be forced to play a certain thing to counter a perk..."
- If you dont like flashlights, you use Lightborn. If you dont like stuns, you use Enduring. I dont see this as any different. The game provides you with the tools to counter something you dont like and you would rather ignore it?
"One Survivor running this perk is fine, but all four Survivors using this is too much..."
- That is 4 perk slots basically wasted over stunning the Killer when they kick a Generator. I would rather see 4 Blast Mines than 4 MFT + Hopes or whatever meta stuff people use every match.
- I know some people will mention SWF but it's literally Blast Mine so who cares.
"But it counters Pop Goes The Weasel sometimes..."
- You know what else counters PGTW? Repressed Alliance. Repressed Alliance HARD COUNTERS PGTW, yet literally no one complains about it. But as soon as the most mild inconvenience happens, it sudden means Blast Mine must be nerfed? Really?
- If you see people DO have Blast Mine, the stun is rather short to begin with, so just play around the fact that they have Blast Mine by trying to reach the Generator as soon as possible.
"It requires too little effort with no downside..."
- This is the same patch that we literally got For The People + Buckle Up and you complain about Blast Mine of all things.
- There are downsides; if the Killer does not kick the Generator, you either have to wait until the Generator is completed or until the two minute timer is full depleted before you are able to even work on getting another Blast Mine.
- If the Killer brings entirely passive regression perks, and does not kick a single Generator, youve wasted a perk slot. This perk is basically like Hope, you have to have certain conditions align to get value, which is what the perk is balanced around.
I play a lot of Survivor, but I also play a lot of Killer, and even after the Blast Mine buff, I never see it enough to really justify hating it, because this perk is not meta, it's not even strong. If anything, I encourage people to bring it, since it to me feels like a waste of a perk slot just to do something moderately funny.
I just really wish people didnt crumble and complain anytime there is a slight inconvenience since it really has harmed the balance of the game for both Survivor and Killer.

I have literally never seen anyone complain about blast mine, and i think this thread is just trying to stir people up for no reason. Can we nerf FTP + Buckle up and made for this now?

Heres my rebuttal; nobody likes being stunned and blinded for 5s.
Personally I don't find the perk an issue but man is it isn't PAIN when it happens.

Blast Mine is one of those things that's just plain annoying.
It's actual impact on a game is usually minimal. It's very much like blinding a killer when they break a pallet. It's a cheap, risk-free shot, It buys you a couple of seconds while it disorients the killer, but is ultimately pointless.
6 -
The claims I am addressing are taken directly from other threads.
If I wanted to stir up pointless drama, I would make a post on DBD Twitter over some random stuff that makes literally no sense.
6 -
To answer the question, yes, people will complain about anything.
5 -
I think its one of those perks thats specifically "unfun" to go against, even if its not strong.
If I could change one thing about it, I'd make it so you can slap a gen to disarm it (with no notification or feedback) to give a risk/reward counterplay to it regarding its timewaste: You waste a little time to try getting rid of it with the hope you avoided the longer stun/blind. Basically like dredge smacking locker locks but without any way of seeing it did something.

So what do survivors get in exchange for this? They need to repair a gen to at least 50% uninterrupted to apply Blastmine, can’t repair the gen fully to potentially get value from the perk, and then get a 5 second stun for all that. And since you would nerf it, what do survivors receive in exchange?
2 -
They get killers blindly slapping gens before kicking them, wasting time. Its the respect factor like DS used to have. Remember I said there should be no notification that it even worked, so its a blind guess attempt on the killer's side. Basically just some type of method to make a hard read and not just take the stun.

I personally don't find it that annoying, I also don't think it's weak it's like a DS that has a much greater chance of never going off and when it does it's at times that usually arn't super significant but a 5 second stall is still useful and 10 seconds of stall can be game winning if the killer isn't playing at a high level. That said it's fine? When I get hit with it I don't care that much and unless you're a Pop enjoyer I can't see it coming up that often. Considering Pain Res/Jolt/Deadlock are all strong and don't care about blast mine and I can't imagine people actually calling to nerf it. I'm sure people do because people will complain about anything remotely useful in this game but Blast Mine is the Demogorgon of perks, can be dangerous but usually isn't and isn't unfair in any way and has lots of meme value.

When blastime first got nerfed, there were killer mains saying that it was justified and complaining about the old blastmine
1 -
yeah thats a great idea!!! lets nerf a perk that just recently made it to b tier!!!!!
2 -
Its not even really a nerf. You'd get more value from killers slapping gens that DONT have it than anything. Even when successful the attack animation is like a third of the stun duration as it is.

No the perk is fine and doesnt needs nerfs like the one you provided.

youre welcome to your opinion, have a good one.

This.
I’m on here all the time and I’ve never seen a single post complaining about blast mine.

Blast Mine is great. 5s is a huge time gain for survivors. I've gotten so many safe unhooks or gen pops because of a well-timed blast mine.

Show me one.

People complained about blast mine?
Well, to be honest, that perk serves no ingame purpose. It only exists so we can giggle to ourselves when the killer tries to kick our trapped gen. And 5 seconds later they will kick it anyway.
And please don’t bring up that one in a million case in which it prevents pop from being triggered ;)

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/343527/can-a-dev-explain-why-blastmine-was-nerfed there. “Maybe the devs decided to play killer for once and realized how annoying this perk is. It's so annoying getting DSed over and over in a trial just trying to get a whopping 2.5% regression and an overcharge proc” there is your proof
1 -
Riiiight, so your evidence is someone who has been banned on the forums, and you also had to go a year back? Funny.
But my point wasn't just "oh you showed me one, guess i got owned". My point is, you'll find it hard to find anyone with any CREDIBILITY actually complaining about blast mine.
2 -
“When blastmine first got nerfed” was a year ago. You asked for a complaint and i showed one.
1 -
You asked one evidence and they showed it? You did not ask evidence from specific person, you just asked evidence. What's problem with their evidence?
And yes, some people complained about old Blast Mine and they were even happy for nerf/bug fix whatever it was.
3 -
I mean, i saw a thread the other day of a survivor complaining that demogorgon is OP. Are we really going to listen to what "Random player X" says? The point is, this is not some mainstream idea, and the OP is trying to play it off like it is.
3 -
I think it's fine. It just isn't exactly fun to go against. I mean, you kick a gen to try and protect your objective and as a reward it blows up in your face.
0 -
I use it to punish The Skull Merchant (3 gens)
Even better if my whole team uses this perk

This. its mildly annoying at worst, with very little game impact.
I may have had one gen finished in my face while I was stunned, but can't think of any other notable time it was anything other than a slight nuisance. As a surv, I only run it occasionally because it looks funny.

I got you fam.
Pretty fresh thread, just scour the replies and you'll find the ones about Blastmine, enjoy! Blastmine is also mentioned in the first post.

keyword "credible"

If the source was "credible" there would be no point in this thread. OP is obviously referring to casuals, not youtubers.

Until now, I never seen anyone complain about blast mine

I dont think blast mine is overturned in any way or form.
However, I get the point that the Perk is powered by simply doing the objective and the killer loses a ton of time.
It's very easy to use with little downside other that not using an other Perk.
As a surge / jolt user I dont mind it honestly.

Haven't really seen much complaining about a meme tier perk that's been nerfed passively twice in the past year and buffed the duration (no longer get the charge back, and no longer has synergy with repressed alliance).
As for the complaints you listed tho: no counterplay, no warning it's coming, and a stunning effect is now a problem for killers?
That's hilarious.
The devs should make the stun last 26 seconds, and leave it in the game for 10 months while everyone and their dog uses it incessantly. Killers were screaming about how that's '100% fair and balanced' for the better part of a year.

I mean it's annoying as hell but I wouldn't say it's overpowered.

I've noticed a big increase in killers using Trail of Torment lately, so I imagine Blastmine is probably quite a hindrance. But can't say I've noticed too many complaints.

Some of the claims come from here. There are also a few replies from me directed towards other people, so you can see that I got a lot of stuff just from this thread.
I also saw some replies on DBD Twitter but DBD Twitter will be DBD Twitter so frankly it's not really worth much.

Not surprised by some of the people complaining in that thread though tbh. There's some regulars that complain about pretty much any random perk they happened to run into while having a bad game.
