Is a Survivor Items Shake Up Needed?
It's been no well kept secret that toolboxes and medkits have been the best survivor items to take at all times.
The healing kit nerfs have had a nice effect that reduced the overall value of the medkit, which was very much needed, as the self healing metas (whether it was self care, CoH or just plain medkits) have been busted for survivors, and medkits have value without being the default best item to take.
The attempts to nerf toolboxes were... less successful... but we'll see. Flashlights feel fine... they are good in skilled hands, "maybe" could do with some alternative function, but are good.
That leaves maps and keys... and in both cases, they aren't useless... but... they are extremely niche. I have my own thoughts and ideas, but I've seen threads before where a not small section of the community seems happier with just letting them die as useless items... usually to the tune of "don't block up my bloodweb with junk".
This to me feels like a shame... The items you take is kind of like your "class". Its skewn by perk madness ofc, but the idea of having survivor "roles" is very appealing to me.
So figured I'd ask directly. Do people feel we need an items shake up? Would we want to push for the 5 survivor items to generally be equally mixed in lobbies?
Or are we happy with things where they are, with toolboxes and medkits being meta, flashlight being for juicers, and maps and keys used for memes?

I personally would love to see Maps and Keys more useful.

Map and keys have more uses than people give credit for
Maps help find totems and gens which can be useful for removing a 3 gen or noed early esp if you don't want to use a perk slot to combat those
Keys even the green one can be used for aura reading on killer allies and without using up the key seeing the obsession all game which can be useful for information especially if you don't want to use a perk slot for aura reading abilities
Would I like to see key and map get an upgrade sure but I don't see them being worthless just very niche

I don't like how they neutered all medkits. Personally I wish the Green didn't have the speed penalty, and the Purple didn't have the efficiency penalty. Its bad when the best medkit is the brown medkit. Each having a distinct identity helps make them different. While I think toolboxes need to be nerfed (on gens) as well, I don't want the same dev team that butchered medkits to be behind the toolbox rework.
While I'd agree both are better than the common consensus (worthless), that doesn't mean they even come close to good sadly. A green map can't even track totems without an add-on. When concerned about a normal match, I'd much rather lose out on a medkit and bring We'll Make It or Botany, than use a map and leave behind Deja Vu or Visionary. I'd agree the Blood Amber is amazing (against M1 Killers), but all other aura reading abilities tend not to be worth the item. Also Blood Amber is a purple rarity add-on, so you lose the add-on even IF you escape. That is too cost prohibitive to use frequently, unlike a brown or yellow toolbox or medkit.

Maps and keys especially could definitely do with a rework. I haven't taken either into a game for well over a year now, and if I have, it is probably because I had to find totems for a challenge. 100% of the time I bring a torch or toolbox.
Why not incorporate the gen progress update into maps? So an add-on, or basic feature, that will show generators and their progress. So if there is a gen close to completion, you can see that using the map aura and head to it. And if you are playing the add-on that lets other survivors see what the map is showing, they can see the gen progress too.
The key lost most of its use after the hatch update. Maybe as standard, a key gives a 50% speed boost opening chests? Minor, but it is a bit of an extra incentive to bring it. It is a key and a locked chest after all.

Keys used to be the most powerful item, I honestly think they're fine now especially for soloQ free Bond is underrated and we don't want them at the level we had them at before.
Maps are interesting they used to have a place during ruin/undying meta with detective's hunch but then it was decided we didn't actually want to give survivors a second objective so that went away. They could probably do with a buff but I don't know what you'd do with them as unless hexes are meta there's nothing in the map really worth tracking.

Maps and Keys should be top priority.
Toolboxes could be adjusted, but they're not in an awful place. BNP's did just get reworked, whether that actually works out as a buff or a nerf I'm still not sure.

what if keys showed your aura to other survivors within a certain range. like, basekit, without needing to use charges.

Otz discussed this, and he said with the new BNP just erasing some of the repairs needed, the re-work might have actually made BNP stronger, because the killer can't counter that at all.

That would be interesting, like a reverse Bond.

They did shake up survivor items. This past year all medkits were severely nerfed and BNP was nerfed. Keys and maps are borderline useless (not quite, but close). They’re ok for completing tome challenges but otherwise what they do can be done with map awareness or perks.

Maps are my favorite item. I definitely don't want to see them nerfed in any way.

Survivors need new items PEROID! At least one new item a year. I know the bloodweb already crowded but survivor need something new outside of just perks. Every 3 months killers players get a new new edition to the roster with different mechanics to interact with and master. Survivors remain the same despite being such large amount of the community. Things like plot twist and chemical trap are super interesting but they are all perk.

I would love if maps were more fun and useful! They're also very rare on the bloodweb for some reason.

If I recall correctly, BHVR said they were considering new items which, if my memory serves me correct, was announced in or around the anniversary - perhaps on an AMA?
They certainly would benefit from giving more usage to the keys and maps, as there are some clever ideas that could be developed. The first-aid kits, toolbox, and flashlights are in a healthier state compared to those.

In my opinion:
Flashlights: Feel balanced to me, I don't think they need changes.
Toolboxes: Currently too strong. Add-ons should be nerfed. Brown & yellow toolboxes need more charges basekit. Add-ons are kind of a mess. More sabo stuff please !
Medkits: Too boring, need a rework. Solo heal maybe needs a buff. Add-ons are just as boring.
Keys: Need a full rework because buffing aura reading would be a tad dangerous, green key needs deleting.
Maps: Need a buff both in use (make them see pallets & windows for eg) and in duration, or a full rework. Add-ons need to be reworked, the beacon one was literally only used to show the hatch to other survivors, why does it still exists?
Also, I think every item has too many add-ons for the sake of having add-ons. Lots of them are useless and they need to cleaned up.

In the COH era i was actually seeing maps an ok amount of the time. Like once every 10 games or so which isn't bad. Now i can go 100 games without seeing a single map on average. I still see keys a little bit just because of the wall hack bloody amber addon. I think the keys should just be remove for a more modern item.
left behind, clairvoyance, even the map with a certain addon can find the hatch. We don't need keys.

The most annoying thing in this game is when you take time opening a chest and there's a Green Key in there. 😭 What the hell am I suppose to do with this?
