Am I A Jerk For Doing This?
Okay, for me personally, I will admit that I am a petty person, I do many things just out of spite.
Not to say that I am angry individual, I hope I dont come off as such. Most of the time, I just move on and forget about it. Ive have my own set of fights and quarrels, rarely, but they do happen, and I forgive and forget rather than hold grudges.
Getting Right Into Things...
But, of all things I do, I do have a mini "code of conduct" that I follow, most of it contains obvious stuff like "only BM if they are friends and/or if they BM me first" as per ingame banter.
One of the things I have done for a really long time in DBD though, is if someone is AFK or intentionally throws the match, I will solely make sure that they do not escape and let every other player in the match escape.
Likewise, if someone is also trying to intentionally off themselves ingame (like when they point at the hook over and over specifically), I will make sure that they survive out of pettiness or bleed them out and let the other people go depending on the situation (a lot of nuance with this one).
With the new Alien chapter, there are going to be people who do not want to play against the new Killer, so it has been a rather common occurrence to have it happen.
A Confrontation...
I got into a confrontation over doing it, a player was not happy that I let everyone go despite the fact that they were AFK the entire match and only didnt play because I was playing the Xenomorph.
Of course they called me out and reported everyone for "working with the Killer" despite the fact that they were never actively playing the game anyways.
Sometimes the game can be frustrating. Sometimes the end result is not what you want. Im split on how to feel about this since Ive been in a similar boat where Im not happy with the end result.
However I would never verbally attack and/or harass someone over something that happens in the game, if something upsets me, I just queue for another match and move on.
Pointing Out My Flaws...
As per anyone else, or at least I would hope so, Im not perfect.
I think the only thing bad thing I have done is just bleed people out, but as I mentioned before, Ive only done it if they point at the hook, and I normally let the other people go (unless I am doing Adept of course).
The only problematic thing is it is kind of hypocritical since I hate being bleed out myself, but I have recognized that there is a bit of nuance to the topic as to when and when not I think it is acceptable, I try to be a bit more critical as to when and when not I do it.
(NOTE: If they are the final Survivor, and they are near a hook, I will just hook them. Im not for prolonging the match more than intended. I will only bleed people out if they want to throw the entire match for their team because they are unhappy with something that happened. If you waste your team's time and my time then I will waste your time to put it bluntly, but if it prolongs the match for everyone then I wont, since realistically nobody likes that, not even me.)
Because I Am Curious...
Am I a jerk for this? Should I maybe play more "fair" and treat everyone equal here? Im not too sure, I wanted to hear other people's thoughts on this.
I am stubborn, so ya know, I might not be willing to change my ways if it is bad, but I do want to at least get another perspective on things, hear out other opinions at the very least. I also do not want this to be a community discourse, this isnt an Us VS Them, I just want to hear people's opinions on this.

We're not entirely sure what your looking for here as something benign for one would be jerkish for others. At least for us, we just dislike the hypocrisy of the bleed out part. Do to others what you'd do to you in that position and all that and if your gona bleed them out you'd better not feel bad on if it happens to you. Overall though we'd say your "code" is pretty fair, though depending on how forgiving your thoughts on AFK are (we've had friends who were afk for abit at the start due to irl things such as pets).
As for the argumentive player, they weren't playing the game normally and we're assuming they admitted to doing it because of the killer your playing. Not cool regardless. Ultimately you just gotta ask yourself if you feel like a jerk for doing what you do. Your the one playing the game and can play however you want, but its nice to keep in mind other people want to have fun too.

I don't think postponing a match from ending and making it longer than it should is a good thing and pretty petty, honestly. Likewise for survivor, when the gates are open and no one needs saving, I believe you should dip unless you're getting an item from a chest or something. Do what you need to do in the game and move on to the next one.

When bleeding people out specifically, I should elaborate a bit more.
If I can clearly hook the Survivor and hooking them would effectively end the match, then yea, I will hook them. The only time I hate being bleed out as Survivor is when Im the final Survivor left and Im sitting under a hook but the Killer wont hook me; obviously, I would just end the match if I were the Killer.
The only time I bleed Survivors out is if they want to off themselves on hook to move onto the next match. If they want to throw the match for their entire team because they arent happy with the end result, then I will waste their time like they wasted my time and their entire team's time. I am petty, Ive dealt with hundreds of people like it as Survivor and Killer, and I want people to know that acting like a spoiled brat has consequences.
Overall when I decide if I do it or not, I put myself is the opposing side's position and how I would feel before doing it. As I mentioned before, there is a lot of nuance with me doing it.

Far from it, I'd do the exact same thing
If they don't want to play against Xenomorph, they can either DC or suck it up and play the match anyway

shrug again, that was just our thought from what we understood. Our thoughts on the mater are ultimately irrelevant as your opinion matters most but for what its worth, its relatively "nice" (atleast compared to us).

Same if you're going to screw over your fellow survivors you get to be the only one fed to the entity

I personally don't care if the killer does this to me. I just alt tab out and do something else while I wait. I think a lot of killer mains have this mental image of survivors sitting at their desk with furrowed eyebrows and angrily pounding their fists on the keyboard. Maybe some people are like this but it doesn't apply to me personally. I'm completely chill during the whole thing.

I may or may not have body blocked a toxic Feng at the exit gates once.
Allegedly.

why are you seeking confirmation here? do it if it makes you happy, don't if it doesn't, simple as that. what kind of people do you want in the community, do you want to contribute to that, does others' fun matter to you... you can consider all these and come to a conclusion yourself.

I think you are playing to fair at some point. If someone points at a hook I just kill them and if someone is afk I also just kill them. Its bad if that happends in your team, but the round ends faster for everyone. So everyone can move on. If its very early and I feel like it I will farm with them and let them out yes, but these things are your decision. The whole thing of bleeding someone out is also your decision. I only do it if I have no other choise. If the survivor abuses boil over for example or a full lobby of flashlights, where they are swarming the downed survivor.

Nah, continue. If the devs refuse to deal with it, take it into your own hands. Making players like that bleed out is realistically just making them eat the penalty they deserve. On the few occasions I have had to do this in the last year, not a single one of the person that had given up or "afkd" was actually afk, contrary to what people on the forum will tell you.
Majority of the time the other survivors will start meming over their body because they hate dealing with these players as well. Never has a single other person in the lobby asked me why I did that.

There’s always the golden rule. 🤷♂️
Have a good one

Yes. But you already knew that

Basically this for me as well.
If I go AFK, I'm almost certainly actually away from my keyboard. I'll go do something else. If you're trying to punish me by keeping me in the game, you're basically punishing yourself.
As a killer, if someone is trying to throw the match I'll eliminate them, probably try to two hook everyone else, then let them go.

I want to hear people's thoughts on the matter.
Also Ive realized that there might be discourse but it is completely unavoidable at this point. Sometimes the community just eats at itself like rabid dogs, sometimes it is nice and chill, more or less I just like to hear people's opinions on topics then I move on, I will admit that sometimes I am stubborn and dont change, but I, at least, want to see things from other perspectives to gain better insight on topics.
If youve seen my threads, 95% are talking about niche topics/theory-crafting or asking questions for the community. I use to do a lot of polls but I find that having people explain their opinions is far more interesting so I stopped doing them so often. As for the other 5%, the 5% is mostly an archive of my misadventures in the fog, also including my time when I was returning after 2 years of not touching the game.
Either way, it doesnt matter too much anyways, to some people it is just words or text on a website that holds no merit, for others, not so much, for me, it is everything yet nothing, they hold a huge amount of value yet seemingly none, and I like it, and would have it no other way, it's oddly comforting, but Idk.
Im horrible with words, always have been, always will, so I hope you can make sense of what is probably just pointless ramblings.

What good does it do to bleed someone out when they clearly want to leave the match? There have been a lot of xenomorph matches since it came out. They may have been tired of the same killer over and over. They may have been frustrated. You never know what burdens a person has on their shoulders and it may have caused them to react in a poor fashion. Yes, bleeding them out because they wanted out of the match was a jerk move. People are crappy to each other. It doesn’t mean we have to be crappy in return. It sounds like you posed a question because your own actions and reactions caused a scenario that bothered you on some level and caused introspection. I would say that if this caused introspection, you acted in a way that was possibly beneath you.
you said it out front though. You can be petty. You stated you would never harass someone in game but you did by your interactions with the player who wanted out. You intentionally caused them discomfort by slugging to bleed them out. Is this possibly why you are divided?
Regardless, people will live how they want to live. They will act for themselves usually without regard or thought to the other person or people. It’s part of being an individual.
anyway, have a good one. 👍
