Will patch 2.6.0 finally end mass tunneling and camping?

The incoming patch 2.6.0 will see a number of perk changes and emblem changes that when combined send a clear message of disapproval that some will say, was long overdue.

Patch 2.6.0 will make the lives of players who camp and tunnel a living hell.

For starters, the Chaser Emblem penalty for being within close proximity of a hooked survivor has been increased. Even if the developers decide to revoke their changes to the Devout Emblem, I find it hard to believe that the Chaser Emblem will see this harsher emblem penalty removed.

Speaking of the Devout Emblem, killers now gain points based on how many times they hook a survivor. So if you were to only hook each survivor once, you would at most get a gold Devout Emblem. (The community openly hates this change so hopefully it won't go through.)

In terms of perks, Decisive Strike has been altered to punish campers and tunnelers. The change let's survivors who were recently unhooked succeed a skill check during the pickup animation to immediately escape the killers grasp and stun them for a few seconds. The skill check required to trigger this perk has also been made larger.

In addition to the Decisive Strike rework Kindred received a buff and now reveals all survivor auras to each other as well as the killer's aura if they are within 8/12/16 meters of the hook. (Survivors can also bring Open Handed to boost this radius by an additional 4/6/8 meters.)

Combine this with the increased survivor invulnerability shortly after an unhook alongside some older perks (Deliverance, Breakdown, etc) and it's apparent that tunneling and camping are going to have plenty of counters in the coming months.

Just pick DS if tunneling is such a big problem.

Take BT if camping is a problem

I think that nothing will change in people's playstyles. Ranks don't yield any rewards so those who want to play that way will still play like that.

    No, because 4k > pipping

Since that’s absolutely no incentive to rank up or play in a “fun” manner, no.

Behavior keeps on trying to punish certain play styles rather than reward you for choosing more interactive ones.

Assuming people care about ranking up. If anything not ranking up is beneficial because you're more likely to get easier games.

Rank doesn't matter, killers will do what gives them the most bloodpoints, there is no incentive to rank up, so who cares?

No. All I know is on PTB been playing killer and the massive Looping is ATROCIOUS with the new character and map especially. I even got the buff for speed(forget its name) and because of the way the new map is built it still did not matter what so ever and I sat there 5 minutes with someone haha

Even on PTB theyre camping and tunneling as hell.

PTB isn't a good indicator. Nothing you do there carries over to the live servers so there isn't exactly any motivation to care about rank. With that said, there really isn't a reason to care about rank on the live servers either. So making it harder to rank up isn't a very good deterrent to keep killers from camping. Besides, a very good argument can be made that securing that first kill will still make the rest of the game easier to perform well, countering any penalty.

What's the difference between being at rank 15 and being at rank 1? I don't even pay attention to rank TBH. Unless there's a better incentive for being at rank 1 than <rank 1, I will continue to ignore the ranking system. As of now and even after the changes, all rank stands for is the amount of time you put into the rank reset period.

I kind of feel like a lot of killers feel this way too. If I were a camper/tunneler, this wouldn't hinder me at all from camping/tunneling. I don't know how DS is going to affect tunnelers, but I imagine unless it becomes meta, you will continue to see tunnelers.

Can’t wait to see those tunnellers and campers stay at rank 10 with their crap gameplay and say “ggezzzz”.

I’ll still camp when I feel like it. I don’t care about pips or rank. In fact I love when some douchebag survivor gets camped and then messages me about pips. I mean, I literally just camped you. If I cared about pips I wouldn’t have camped.

Also, what’s this about increased invincibility after being unhooked? That stuff is so glitchy already. I’ve chased a survivor out of the exit with someone hooked then they kobe off and run to the exit and are still invincible. Hope it doesn’t mess it up more.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you can't win, you won't be ranking up either.

Tunnelers and Campers are still gonna tunnel and camp, there's nothing anyone can do to fix it. It'll never end.

No. This new killer is a great tunneler. They will just toss in a smidge of slug to counter DS is all.

I always rank up waaaaay to fast... so I like the changes… now I can actively slow down my rank up speed and avoid the toxic red ranks longer.

Now it's easy to choose a rank and stay there forever with Franklin's Demise Leatherface, eternally collecting items and salt.

This, if you run in front of me injured after I'm already chasing someone else I'm taking the free down.

@powerbats I did forget to mention that I camp when the gates are open, since I gotta secure the kill if they aren’t already dead.

I don't see it as camping at that point as much as making them choose: escape, while you can, or risk more than one of you dying.

I still don't camp unless that person was toxic or the teammates were but I also don't have an issue with securing at least 1 kill. Once the gates are powered camping is perfectly acceptable and reasonable especially if it's to get at least 1 kill.

Where I always laugh is when they have 1 gen left or 2 gens left and they hard face camp because they played badly the entire game.

You are wrong about that. It is 100% possible to fix camping and tunneling. But it requires a more heavy handed approach. Here is just one possible solution:

Its usually a playstyle of preference not effectiveness. If the new system keeps them at low ranks where survivors feed the tactic, I think those killers will embrace it all the more.
