Came back to play dbd and instanstly got camped when bringing cake.

So I have not recently played much dbd due to playing tcm instead and now I came back to play and used cake as reward killer instantly camped me and teammates didn't even try to save... Well it will be last time I use cake for a while. I use them once a week typically but now probably not in months. I still have about 3000 cakes from previous two anniversary.

Recently, I've been playing the game at a complete chill state. This is due to the fact that 1) I have Nic Cage available 2) started recording my matches and saving / uploading those I win is a joy 3) challenges are mostly done (the ones I care about, that is). Especially number one is great as I see Cage as a nuisance in DbD currently.

I was part of a team that lost the match against Pyramid Head and boy the hatred I got for picking Cage. I had the lowest score (the difference was minimal) and still managed to get a pip (at Gold Rank) but they just blamed me for everything. Fun fact: endgame chat is kept at a closed state. Here I forgot to do it (probably GG-ed before because of a good match).

Edit: Completely forgot to be on topic. I do have a lot of cakes. Losing early on does not make me angry. It is always the unused BNP that gets me.

That's the reason I don't bring cake anymore, each times I take something who give more bloodpoint, I'm a target for the killer

    Dunno why, just kinda sad

What was the killer and describle the game? And well I should mention killer had guy death hooked which he could easily gotten and he didn't need to camp. But my teammates were useless to not even trying to save for whole 2 minutes. This happens when I bring cake too often. Most of my playtime I already play tcm and just came back to play few games of dbd.

Thanks for explanation, I will keep that in mind next time I play killer and see a cake :D

Just a note to OP: Maybe the killer didn't even know you brought the cake. Look at me, I've got over 500hours on DBD and still didn't know. So don't take it personally maybe.

So nothing really special happened - just a regular dbd experience. And why do you think bringing cake give you free pass? During events there is like unlimited supply of cakes. On some killers I don't play i have cakes 2 maybe even 3 years old.

"Killer camped and teammates didn't save me" Well that was optimal play (focus on gens and let camped teammate die) and how BHVR sees the game constantly rewarding lazy killers with free undeserved stuff

I only remember it was legion on borgo. I think I played thalita but can't really remember. I played multiple people from here and remember some of the names I see. Some matches I remember more in detail but not this one. I do remember that the name had numbers after it I think and it was deathstroke.

Also can't blame you for not enjoying dbd, I expect to suffer when I play it.

I am evil surv main now.

Then you should be playing as Claudette or Meg and pretend you’re bad at the game.

Event cakes are stupid it should give 100% to yourself and that's it, I don't care about giving double points to my opponent especially when they camp, sadly I never use them on survivor i just hate it

I don't have to pretend lol. I also play different survivors those included.

Okay, as long as you play Claudette sometimes💜

No other character can strike fear into the hearts of both, killers and survivors, as good as she can.

She is actually among my favorites, and also classic from old times. Her scream still makes me laugh because i remember when toxic people played her a lot.

And let's not forget houdini powers she had. Sometimes after many rough games I play her that way just for the memes and to cheer myself up. New kids prolly don't get it tho.

@MikaelaWantsYourBoon saw me once pulling a good houdini on pyramid head where I managed to drive him off to another gate while I opened the one he left.

Also sorry @Deathstroke for derailing the topic.

To be fair if the killer was facecamping then the optimal play for your team is to just focus on gens and escape. They could have tried to go for an endgame save but that requires a lot of coordination, strategy, and sometimes luck, and even then doesn’t guarantee everybody gets out. Hopefully the anti-camping mechanic mitigates situations like yours.

It was pyramidhead you can do the save even alone agains't him and graps are removed so at worst case it's going to be trade.

It’s 2023- bringing a cake means nothing. You could bring 4 and you will still get camped. I haven’t seen “Easing off the gas” or farming in over a year.

  • pseudechis
    pseudechis Member Posts: 3,904

Sure you're not a fan of camping that's fine, but It happens just move onto the next game.

Also bringing an offering doesn't obligate people to play a certain way.

To get the maximum bonus out of offerings, the onus is on you the player to not get caught so you can stay in the game and earn points longer, its not really your opponent's job to do that for you.

    rvzrvzrvz Member Posts: 940

Yeah ok i'm selfish and lack empathy you know me from one message that's cool, thanks. It just doesn't work in this game in OP's case you bring a cake and killer prevent you from playing the game

  • pseudechis
    pseudechis Member Posts: 3,904

Is it any less selfish to expect others to attenuate how they play because you brought an offering?

Its not unempathetic to play game how you like regardless of what offerings people bring, in fact that has nothing to do with empathy or lack thereof.

I think people often misuse the concept of empathy to justify being upset over a game.

Lets look at the theme here, you are playing a game that simulates the brutal torture and murder of 4 people, complaining that players don't do it as compassionately as possible is just incongruous with the entire concept.

It doesn't hurt you to not get maximum BP's for your offering either. "But I wasted the BP's" so you wasted an infinitely available resource which is given for free for simply playing the game, the sunk cost is so minor its barely measurable.

Its not an act of generosity to bring an offering, its just a game addon. It in no way obligates someone to change how they might play.

If they choose to and everyone gets heaps of points great, but if they play as they always would then that's neither selfish or unempathetic, its just gameplay and doesn't make them a bad person whom lacks empathy and generosity.

A little rational perspective goes a long way.

Of course my statement wasn't meant to hit someones personality overall, or what kind of human being they are in real life. Sorry if it sounded that way. I only evalute things connected to the game.

I just think people shouldn't care if others get bonus BP, even if they play a way they don't like. I consider it slightly envy or not begrudge someone something, if you say things like "I don't want to give my opponent BP, just make it so it's only for me!". Of course you don't have to expect to be pampered just because of the fact you brought a BP offering either. I just smell enviousness if people say they want offerings to be only personal. Because I think the Event offerings who give BP to everyone are a nice "celebration" and give a feeling of belonging together as a whole community on events.

Yeah, it doesn't hurt me if I don't get max BP out of my offering. I never said that. OP did.

If they choose to and everyone gets heaps of points great, but if they play as they always would then that's neither selfish or unempathetic, its just gameplay and doesn't make them a bad person whom lacks empathy and generosity.

I am not saying that either. My "lack of empathy" post was just related to someones opinion to make the event offerings for one player only, because they don't want others to get BP out of it. For me, it's a nice bonus for "everyone" and I don't get mad if someone got more BP out of my offering than I myself did in a match. Sometimes that's how it goes.

Want to point out again, that's of course nothing personal, just my opinion on the question if event BP offerings should be one-player only or stay like they are, giving everyone in the match the extra BP.

Overall, everyone gets more BP if event cakes are used by more than one player often. Even if sometimes you are tunneled out fast. Better luck next match, when other players throw in their BP as well. It's nothing I get angry about. I am not the one saying: "Bleeeh make BP only for me! I don't want to give others the BP because i get tunneled out of the game fast!". I'm above that. Doesn't hurt me if I see other people get more out of something at the game, or their grass is greener than mine.

So, I think there was a little bit of misunderstanding about my last post. Might be because I have expressed myself wrong. Sometimes I auto translate words I am not sure about as well (like "empathy" or "envy") so that might have add up makeing it sound more harsh than it was meant to.

Sorry for that, and see you in the fog. Being it with or without event-cakes ✌️

Well thought out reply and I wasn't having a dig at you.

Just offering as counter perspective to the topic as a whole, as the concepts of people being selfish and/or unempathetic come up a lot in DBD.

I often find the rationale for such conclusions to be really weak, often overstating the problem (or its impact) or having very unrealistic expectations about the game to begin with.

The term "you" here as I used it was to address the more general idea behind why people make empathetic and generosity based arguments rather than addressing you specifically.

I often think there would be far less toxicity in this community if folks took a moment to step back and think a lil.

No apology needed and see you in the fog too. My fav time of year is approaching Halloween and I always get a bit of a DBD kick on during it. I hope your killer games are fun and your survivor games suitably scary. 👻

Personally when I play killer, and see a lot of "+bloodpoints" offerings, I'm trying to play as much "fair" as possible, so that everyone will get enough juce from the match.

Unless they're being disrespectful and rude to me.=)

  • Ayodam
    Ayodam Member Posts: 3,134

I don’t wonder that at all. Because it doesn’t happen in my games. I don’t recall you chipping in money when I purchased DBD. Not sure why I’d play for your benefit…? In any event if you require altruism you may want to find a SWF. It’s absurd to expect literal strangers to play a game in a way that you personally have fun while they do not.

It’s not a ‘team game’ though. When you die but others live you don’t get higher MMR or share their bloodpoints. In fact you’re punished by de-pipping and/or losing MMR. If you did share the winner’s bounty, you wouldn’t be complaining about strangers not sacrificing their gaming experience to save you. Lol

  • Deathstroke
    Deathstroke Member Posts: 3,521

Higher mmr does have cons too, killer diversity goes away, depip probably happen's in that kind of game anyway when no-one saves. But those are outdated mechanic no-one should focus on them to keep their sanity. They just show playtime nothing else. Bp is good.

They all died no survivor escaped that game if they saved me probably at least 2 would made it out. If you work every game to save and help your teammates you will also be saved and helped in games. The killer would tunneled me after save so giving them one down/hook is only smart play to do. Im fine dying if it helps my team to win I always help in endgame too and risk my own escape.

If everyone goes just thinking about themself no-one ever escapes because you need teamwork to win. It's fine if you don't try to save in endgame but when the game is 4vs1 still gens remaining it's best to keep that way as long as you can when it goes 3vs1 killer can easily snowball and win.

  • BubbaDredge

Lots of times I have no idea what offerings were played. I play a lot, I don't pay much attention to things. Lots of times I don't even know after the trial. I'm not known for my attention to detail.

I'm sorry that there are ANY spiteful people on either side, but most of us aren't like that and have a low opinion of those that are. Shrug that crap off, the rest of us are like you and love BP.

But also, you crank out a bunch of games, you'll see cakes left and right. Some people notice and care, some don't notice, some don't care.

Still the best plan is to just play them as often as possible, especially during events. It's not about getting a bunch of BP that trial, if you're just always playing them, it's like giving yourself a raise.

It sucks but you must know camping/tunnelling/BMing is pretty common in this game and if you ever bring 'nice' stuff into a game there's a good chance this will happen.

BMing happens to both sides too, so it's not an us vs them thing either.

  • miniwengsel

The cake is meaningless. If the Killer wants to camp you he will do it. Also if your teammates would got camped you wouldnt have made the post. So the post means I got camped. Its bad but happends.

I miss the anniversary events. Everyone in my lobbies were running 5 cakes every game and I was getting like 120,000 bloodpoints per trial. I just wish they showed what offerings my teammates were bringing in the lobby before the loading screen.

Many times I have been the only one bringing extra BP offerings for everyone and it feels like a bit of a waste. Also on the other hand I feel bad when I bring an offering for only myself and my teammates or the killer bring in cakes or party streamers for everyone.

  • Farya

I could make similar thread survivors gen rushing when I bring cake on killer but I do feel I have more control over that and can tunnel someone out in response if no other options. But well at least even in bad games im able to get 20K bp on killer. Maybe when I get super gen rushers then I made the thread.

On survivor im left mercy of my teammates and killer, both were horrible in that game. Killer had guy death hooked so no need to camp me but maybe he just wanted to me out because I brought the cake. Teammates could saved me rather easily actually more their fault. He was not standing whole time facecamping there were opportunities to do save without trade...

  • Krazzik
    Krazzik Member Posts: 2,475

It does suck but that's what happens in a team game. When you rely on other people to do well, then when they're bad, you end up doing badly as well. Not much BHVR can do to stop bad teammates.
