Do you hit the generator before or after the chase? Pros and cons to both?
When the Killer arrives at a generator with Survivors I have generally noted that the Killer will enter chase and down/hook a Survivor before coming back to hit the generator. It makes sense since the Killer doesn’t want the Survivor to escape.
However, are there times when hitting the generator first is better? Is it high risk high reward if you can hit it first, then find the chase and let the generator regress during the whole chase time (hoping another Survivor doesn’t tap it- high risk)?
What are your thoughts? What are the pros and cons of both?

My opinion on that: It really depends.
If I have the feel that there is more than 1 surv around, I sometimes kick gen first, if it's already running at high speed. Also trying to chase off both survs a little. I would think that if I just go chase one, the other Surv will finish off the gen fast and so gen is lost. But that also depends on how many gens are already done.. if there is more than 1Surv, the kick before chase is wasted either way, in most cases, if they play well and second surv comes back to a gen which is nearly finished, if you chase the first Surv it's lost gen anyways. So you might as well just give up on the gen and go for the chase instead of kicking.
If I think nobody else is close, and gen isn't already done that far, I come back later to kick most of the time.
But it also depends which gen regression perks you use and so on. I think there is no one and only true answer.

If there is only 1 survivor and gen has some progress , then I will kick it first. The survivor wont get far and I usually get them in less than 30s. Most of the times nobody returns to that gen right away. So the whole time I was chasing and downing the gen was regressing and if finally someone got to it , by then I was already back from the hook to chase them too.

Depends on perks. Without perks, you should only kick gens in the corner if you cornered the survivor. I.E. A gen in killer shack in the corner and you know the survivor is looping shack. So you kick the gen, so you can get some regression while looping. If they try to gen tap, it often slows them down enough to land a hit.
This is especially useful if you know no other survivor is in the area. This also works when you hook them for example and kick a nearby gen.
If you have perks like Nowhere to hide, then it becomes worth doing before. You immediately kick the gen, see if another survivor is close by, and you know if the survivor just held shift+w and where they ran, or if they are trying to loop some structure nearby. Allowing you to make a better decision to catch up to them, cut them off, or go somewhere else if they booked it across the map while you kicked the gen.
Perks like Pop make it better after, for obvious reasons.

With a chase build, never.
With a regression set up thing, for what thats even worth, after the chase?
I guess...
Its been so long since kicking was worth it.

I dont touch gens unless im running a perk to benefit from it, I prefer to use altruism to slow gen speeds.

there is no point in kicking a gen mid chase even if you use game afoot for some reason.

I like running perks where kicking generators is rewarded- my standard, go to, works-on-almost-everyone killer build includes Nowhere To Hide and Eruption, so kicking a generator prior to taking the chase makes a lot of sense with that build equipped. There's also Pop, Trail of Torment, and... a few others I'm forgetting right now, that I run sometimes.
Otherwise, I'd probably do it after getting the hook. It's rarely super impactful, but hey, extra bloodpoints and a tiny bit of regression isn't nothing.

I... almost forgot theres a button to kick generators without a regression build.
I mean, they regress at 1/4th the speed that ONE survivor works on them. The only time I kick without a regression build is for BP at the end...

I'm bad at chase, so it takes me a million years to catch someone and, by the time I do, I don't know where we are anymore. For these reasons, I am a kick-first player and I try to choose my perks to match.
That said, if the gen doesn't have much progress and I'm pretty sure I can down the survivor quickly for whatever reason, then I wait and kick after, if at all.

Depends on the killer and your perk loadout.
If I have Brutal Strength and playing with Rin, I'm naturally gonna hit the generator before starting the chase because I know that I can keep up with the survivor even if I give them a headstart.
If I know that there are more survivors than just one, I do injure the first survivor without hitting the generator to force them away, quickly returning to kick the generator and start the chase with the healthy survivor; If the injured survivor returns to stop regression and continue repairing the generator.. Well, then I have lost time.. But most survivors don't do such reckless stuff against killers like the Spirit, especially noticing that you do have experiences and know how to end chases quickly.

I mostly don't kick gens. No use to do so without specific perks. Base regression is almost non-existent.
